alhamdulillah
one of the most highly recommended
voluntary prayers a real Muslim would
never
abandon because the prophet never
abandoned
itat whether when he was residing or
traveling is
Witter and Witter in Arabic means odd
number the minimum is one ra and the
maximum is is the sky the sky is the
limit and it is a highly recommended
Sunnah because the prophet
saidat indeed Allah is one and he loves
that which is odd numbered that is
w and the time of wit is
between Thea time till the break of dawn
so after a person prays is if a person
prays with before Isa prayer this is not
valid so he has to offer it after he
prays his Isa prayer the prophet
saidat Allah has prescribed for you an
additional prayer that is better for you
than the red camels which is the most
valuable kind of camels to the Arabs and
that is Witter prayer between Isha
prayer and the break of
dawn now how is this prayer uh offered
how do we offer such a
prayer first of all the Witter prayer is
prayed or
offered as in to and this is the format
of night prayer so we have night prayer
prayer and we have Witter prayer night
prayer is
known as any prayer you offer between
Isa and the break of dawn like Witter
but night prayer we pray them in twos in
even numbers so we pray two and we
conclude with Salam pray to conclude
with Salam the sky the limit when it
comes to Witter as stated earlier the
minimum is one
ra but the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam indicated this when he
said when you fear the break of dawn
then offer wit with
one so the minimum is
one
the norm is to pray
three and this is the best of the
minimum
because one is minimum but it's not the
best three is the least of the
best how to perform these these three
there are two types two ways we pray two
raas and we offer Salam then we offer
one
ra as making these three to be
wi wouldn't we exclude the first two and
consider it part of night
prayer the answer is no these three wits
three raas are combined but they are
segregated with Salam this is one way of
doing it the other way of doing it is
praying the whole
three without concluding it except at
the third ra after sitting for tah and
offering Salam so we pray the first
raaka and we stand up we pray the second
raak and we stand up we don't sit down
like
then the third ra we sit down for and we
conclude that with um uh
Salam is it permissible to simulate the
three ra of wi
to meaning that we sit in the second ra
and in the third raak the answer is no
because the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam denied us from doing this and
prohibited us from doing this
and one would
ask is there another format of offering
Witcher the answer is
yes the authentic Hadith stated that the
prophet sometimes offered with it with
five
continuously not sitting in the first
second third and fourth not sitting but
on the fifth and last raak he would sit
down offer
T and salutation upon the prophet and
then offer
Salam and also it was reported that the
prophet offered with with seven R
continuous not sitting in the first six
raas rather standing up and only sitting
on the seventh
ra offering tah salutation and
Salam and also the prophet was reported
to pray
nine Ras
continuously only offering Salam at the
end however the first seven Ras he would
not sit down in it but on the eighth he
would sit down and offer tah and then
stands up to the ninth raaka and and he
would also sit at the end of it and
offer the Salam so this is the format
of the Witter that the prophet used to
offer now what is best to pray in the
beginning of the night in the middle of
the night at the end of the night the
prophet did all of
thisat but he finally
concluded his life with delaying Witter
before fer prayer at the last third of
the
night now it's up to you if you are the
type of a
person who knows that if you go to bed
and set your alarm clock to wake up an
hour before fuder prayer that you'll
miss it and you won't pray uh uh witer
on time in this case it's it's best for
you to
pray and then before going to bed you do
your Witter
prayer if you happen to wake up in the
middle of the night and would like to
offer night prayer you could do two by
two but do not repeat the Witter again
because the prophet sallallahu alaihi Al
wasallam told us not to pray two witters
in one night so if you pray Witter in
the beginning of the night then you wake
up later and want to offer night prayer
no problem but don't repeat the Witter
if you know that no I have a strong will
and Allah would Grace me to wake up
before fjer prayer in this case it's
best for you to delay the Witter because
this is what the prophet
saidat whoever fears that he will not
get up at the end of the night let him
pray which at the beginning of the
night and whoever thinks it most likely
that he will get up at the end of the
night let him pray witer at the end of
the night for prayer at the end of the
night is witnessed and that is better so
this is the Sunnah of the Prophet Alat
wasam when it comes to offering um the
Witter prayer and the times of it
so as St earlier the one ra of night
prayer is the
minimum and the best of the minimum is
to pray three
R
now the prophet sallallahu alaih Ali
wasallam used to
pray 11 raas as mentioned by mother may
Allah be pleased with her so it's best
if you maintain Ain this number and if
you increase it to 13 no problem because
as per the Hadith of Abbas may Allah be
pleased with him and with his father the
prophet may have prayed 13 rakas at
night and so did Mother AA also report
in another Hadith does this limit us to
13 the answer is
no because when the noad interrupted the
prophet's and said tell me about night
prayer the prophet said to him night
prayer is two by two and if you fear fer
then offer one as Witter he did not
limit it to him though the man was
inquiring to learn he could have said
night prayer is
11 don't add to that he didn't which
means that it is open to pray yes the
best is to limit it to
11 this is the best but as stated
earlier
that the sky is the limit and there's no
problem in adding to
that what to recite in the Witter prayer
if you recite if you're praying three
raas the Sunnah is that you
recite in the first
ra
and in the second Rak and then
surlas in the third Rak and this was
reported
by may Allah be pleased with him and
this is what the prophet used to
offer moving on to another voluntary
prayer a beautiful sunah that many
Muslims have abandoned and this is
called
Sal and is also known
as those who come back to Allah and
repent and it is the same as
Sal and is has a different
reward but the timing is the same the
format is the same the only difference
is that in Salat is
one restricts himself to praying in the
Masjid with the congregation and
remaining where he prayed until the sun
rises remembering Allah reading the
Quran engaging in something that is
beneficial in remembrance of Allah then
after the sun rises he prays to ra and
he would be rewarded the reward of a
complete and as per the Hadith of the
prophet and the ruling of
Salat is
that it is highly recommended the timing
of it is from after
sunrise by 10 to 12 minutes
till before the aan of by 10 to 12
minutes and the
Hadith that recommends it is the Hadith
of Abu Hur may Allah be pleased with him
when he said that my close friend
Prophet Muhammad alham advised me to do
three things that I shall not give up
until I die number one to fast three
days of every month number two to pray D
number three to sleep after praying
Witter and this is agreed upon meaning
that it was reported by bukari and
Muslim
and there are a number of Hadith
highlighting the virtues of it among
them is the Hadith of Abu may Allah be
pleased with him that the prophet
sallallahu alaih Al wasallam stated that
every morning a charity is
due from each one of your of you for
every bone of the fingers the joints and
toes so Allah has prescribed upon these
360 joints in our bodies a charity a
sodak and
to sum all of this up you can do that by
offering two Ras of D will suffice for
all of that as mentioned in the Hadith
of the
Prophet
so the time we mentioned the time after
Sunrise till
before
prayer however it is best to delay it
so that this is the maximum heat of the
time as the prophet saidat in the Hadith
the prayer of the
umin is when the young camels feel the
heat of the hot sand but nevertheless
praying it with the conditions mentioned
earlier of staying in the Masjid for
about an hour until the sun rises also
is a great task by itself because it
gives you the reward of and ha how many
Ras do we have in
Sal the minimum is
two and this is what was prescribed some
Scholars say that the prophet prayed
eight ra as per the Hadith
of uh which was also agreed upon when
she came on the conquest of Mecca and
saw the Prophet Sall Ali wasallam
praying eight rakas but other Scholars
said that this or these eight rakas are
the rakas of
conquest and no one has a clear evidence
to back it up so the minimum is two but
the maximum or the the sky is the limit
some say you can also pray 12 rakas and
there is no restriction to that
providing you pray two by two you can
pray as many Ras as the time is open for
this General voluntary prayers and Allah
Knows
