alhamd another episode of the rights to
be observed and these rights is part of
the Islamic education and we ask Allah
subhana wa tala to make us among those
who learn and to apply these rights in
our life this entire life is nothing but
rights to be fulfilled we're still in
the subject of the rights of the parents
and continuing with this rights uh by
understanding we need to understand
exactly how to be righteous to the
parents or some of the rulings or the
points that would help us to fulfill
this right in the proper way as
mentioned before this is based on
Revelation from Allah this is Quran and
Sunnah of the Prophet so it's not just
left to one's wishful thinking so as we
heard in the Hadith and the verses of
the Quran that talks about the
importance of this right in our life and
how to observe it and things of that
nature it's very important for us to
comprehend it one of which is that the
rights of the parents comes before any
other rights in this life life among the
human beings so when it comes to the
human beings of course when it comes to
the dean of Allah the right of the
messenger sallallahu alhi wasallam this
is a very obvious one when it comes to
the dean of Allah we have to follow the
Deen of Allah when it comes to
individuals in our life the right of the
parents comes before anything else comes
before anything else whatsoever and this
is consensus among the people of
knowledge as far as the rights are
concerned another thing is which is the
rights of the mother
uh comes before the right of the father
and this is also consensus but this is
only comes when there is either or but
you know when there's space for
everything to be observed then
definitely there are both to be
fulfilled and as you see for example
when it comes to the obedience is
something more narrow than the rights or
the rights is far more General than just
the matter of obedience otherwise if you
have the for example you know when it
comes to matters of Dean that you're
supposed to do one thing or the other
and the parents are telling you not to
do it you're supposed to obey Allah
subhana tala so and you still have to be
righteous towards them so it's not about
just being obedient this is one form of
it but it's such a larger meaning of it
that means to fulfill the rights of them
uh that's why fulfilling the rights of
the parents comes even before the
optional acts of worship by being kind
to the parents and doing all kinds of
things of righteousness towards them
when it comes to The
Obedience definitely obeying the
parents uh when it comes to something
that is benefiting to them and there's
no harm on the person when he is
fulfilling their rights even if there
are disbelievers even if they are sinful
you know this is mandatory unless
they're commanding the person to commit
a sin so when a
parent commands her son or his son to do
something for him orders the son to to
do something if it's sinful then no
obedience to anyone whatsoever in the
Disobedience of Allah but then to
increase the righteousness towards them
if it's not sinful and it's something
benefiting to them and it's not harmful
it's not going to harm the person or the
son then definitely to be obedient to
them and to fulfill that this is part of
the dean Allah subhana says about the
disbelieving
parent
if they struggle with you that you would
associate partners with Allah they're
doing all of the effort to make you
associate partners with Allah do not
obey them but then at the same time and
be companion with them in this matters
of in this dun with matters of and
amazing how the Quran is stating the
matter they're they're just doing
whatever it takes to make you fall into
shik associating partners with Allah
which is the worst thing that can ever
happen on the face of Earth do not obey
them in this but continue to be kind in
your companionship with
them uh also that you know one of the
rights is that if the son or so they
have the means to sustain and to spend
on their parents when they are in need
then definitely this is the right upon
the the son not to say I'm uh I'm giving
this to my parents or so it's their
rights you know where is then what the
parents spend on their child when he was
young and so on
they don't ask for money afterwards you
know you have to pay what have been paid
upon you know for you so this is part of
the rights to be observed for
them and then it comes there is some
issues that is related to this because
the prophet for example he
said you and your wealth is for your
father so that means the the father can
take whatever money he wants from his
you know grown-up son and he's working
and things like this there is some
condition there one of which is there's
no harm to the son if the father would
take from his son's money and that's
harmful to the sun of course nobody
would ever say let's just have some harm
on the
sun one of the principles of matters of
De of Islam is to push away harm so as
long as it's not harmful and as long
also that it's it's for a need and it's
not something that is out of greed you
know it's not just out of greed but
there's a need and the same thing you
know to be applied very clearly but one
of which is not to take from one son to
give it to another son because that's
basically not for the father but for
another son but so so these conditions
when it's observed then of course the
father is why mention this to make sure
that things are done in the right way
but the normal situations is of course
is for the parents is to be spend upon
especially if they are in need this is
part of the the right rights that the
son should
observe uh also one of these rights that
needs to be observed of course which is
the you know to stay away from the and
the which is anything that is opposite
to righteousness but what is the meaning
of
really it's basically to harm the
parents any harm that comes to the
parents from the son or daughter whether
it's from speech or action and this is
Haram and it's a major sin a word of
mouth and it is sufficient that we need
that Allah mentioned in the Quran the
word
of if they reach Olden age and one or
both of them do not say of to them of is
not a word it's just the least amount of
unease that a person Express it's a
gesture that shows the person is an you
know uncomfortable he doesn't like what
is being said or something like this so
don't even show that to them because
this is a major sin so you can imagine
that if someone would say bad words to
them or physically do something which is
definitely very evil and the prophet
said should I inform you of the major of
the major
sins to associate partners with
Allah to be harmful to the parents to be
not righteous to the parents and to
speak or to have false testimonies and
things of that nature so therefore when
we said that to be kind to the parents
you have to do means of goodness and you
have to stay away from the or what's
harmful to them so the is basically as
we heard speech and actions speech
things that you would say from the and
actions that a person would do that it's
part also of the there are so many
different examples for example when it
comes to matters of speech if a a son
for example revile his parents or which
is you know for those who are decent how
can someone say curse his parents for
example some people they do that in a
very sad situation this is major sin of
course but also what's even more common
among some people is that the son or the
daughter becomes a reason for the
parents to be cursed or to be reviled
how is that the Hadith of the
Prophet one of the major of the major
sins is that a man curses his parents so
they
said oh messenger of Allah how can a man
curses his parents because this is
against what the norm is so the prophet
said that a man would curse or would
revile another man so that other man
would curse the father of the first one
and he would curse his mother which is
basically when people are in fights what
do they do they start cursing one
another's
parents so a person was a reason for
people if he's not a reason that's fine
but he becomes a reason for someone to
curse his mother or to curse his father
which is one of the major of major sins
it's a very scary thing and that's why a
person has to be careful so it's not
just about Reviving them or cursing them
it's about being a reason for people to
do that to them one of the which is
major sin is to raise your voice over
your parents in a in a disrespectful way
so because Allah says do not scold them
right you don't raise your voice you
speak in a humble way in a polite way
and Subhan Allah any sin is evil
and this is one of the things that can
cause harm so much to the parents and
this is something that Allah subhana
forbid and all kinds of other things
there's also with actions you know how
can a person make or being evil towards
the parents with actions with even
staring at them staring in a way that a
person is angry when someone is angry is
giving them an evil look you know this
is major sin or uh when uh when the son
or the daughter they would prefer others
over them over the parents you know and
this is you know as if it's like one of
the signs of the hour when a when a
person would prefer his his friends over
his parents he would give preference to
his friends over the the
parents this is by action this is one of
one of the forms of being harmful to the
parents not to respect them by
belittling their orders by belit in them
making mockery of them for
example if someone would physically hit
them or you know push them or something
like this this is of course very evil so
the the prophet when he said in
the three times that means his nose
literally it means his nose are is
rubbed on the ground but that means is
humiliated he is uh he's in loss so they
said who is is that a messenger of Allah
he
said the one that would witness his
parents both of them or one of them when
they're old in age and they did not make
him enter Jen that means it was a very
easy way for a person to enter Jenna If
the parents are old and you are taking
care of them and many people they don't
fulfill it in the right
way um the being harmful to the parents
brings the wrath of Allah as we heard
the the pleasure of Allah in pleasing
your parents and the wrath of Allah
subhana tala in basically when the
parents are angry with their child to be
deprived from looking to Allah subhana
tal in the day of judgment the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam he said three
types of people Allah subh does not look
at them in the day of resurrection and
he mentioned one of
them the one that is harmful to his
parents it's one of the things that
severs the relationship of K and kth
where it's one of the means for the
punishment from Allah subhana T to come
down on
Nations you know as the prophet he said
in the meaning of which there's no
sin that is more
likely
there's no sin that is more likely that
Allah subhana T would bring the Wrath in
haste to the person in this duny in this
worldly
life with also adding to it what he's
been already kept for him in the day of
judgment with the
sins the transgression and severing the
relationship so this is a severe matter
of course and you know the the Deeds are
not accepted three types of people that
Allah subhana does not accept their
deeds you
know someone that is someone that is
harmful to his parents someone that is
you know always remind people of his
favors someone that is denies the of
Allah with the details of this so this
is a very serious matter and a major sin
one of the major of the major sins which
is so the rights of the parents to be
righteous to them to do acts of B and
righteousness and goodness towards them
and at the same time to stay away from
anything that comes under the category
of the or the major sins when it comes
to harm harming the parents we ask Allah
subhana tala to protect us from any
thing that is displeasing to Allah
subhana wa tala and we continue with
more rights next time by the mercy and
the will of Allah
