alhamd continuing with the rights and
the rights of the spouses and we talked
about the rights of the husband over his
wife and now the rights of the wife over
her husband and uh this is all from
Allah subhana wa taala and we ask Allah
subhana wa ta'ala to make us among those
who learn and fulfill and implement the
dean of Allah subhana wa tala in their
life so Allah subhana tala made certain
rights for the wife and that has to be
observed by the husband and this is how
to protect her religion and her honor as
Allah
said and to the women also there are
rights for them to be observed the same
way that is upon them rights and it's
all with the with what is known to be
good and the prophet said to the
men indeed there are rights for you over
your women and also there rights for
your women over you and the
prophet in several occasions would
address the men in a very
straightforward commands from the
prophet and he would
say fear Allah subh when it comes to the
women you took them by the by the
security by the trust from Allah subhana
wa
tala and become permissible for you
meaning your wife Liv and the the the
private and the intimate relationship by
the word of Allah subhana tala it was a
major sin and then Allah subhana T made
it permissible for you by just the word
of the offering and the acceptance the
marriage so and according uh to the to
the perfect way of life is when both
rights are fulfilled so the rights of
the wife is to be observed of course as
the
prophet even in in the last
pilgrimage in the farewell pilgrimage he
would say and the last words of the
Prophet before he departed from this
life that is take care of your women
take care of your women and therefore
these rights when it comes to the rights
again which is the bare minimum as an
obligation when it comes to the rights
of the wife there is financial rights
and there is non-financial rights as the
they categorize them to make it easy for
us to understand the first one which is
the financial uh rights uh which is
basically money that has to be given and
has to be maintained one of which is Al
Mah alah which is the money or the
wealth any type of wealth that is for
the wife uh and it's the ownership of
the wife but she gets that from her
husband once the marriage contract is
there or by consummating the marriage
which is used or known as the do or so
this is the mAh and this is Allah
says give the women
their which is the that is to be given
at the marriage and this is purely to
the wife it's not for the father it's to
no one but the wife and the Mah is part
of the marriage right and it's not a
condition of the marriage contract it's
not one of the pillars according to the
majority of the people of of knowledge
so if for example people had the
marriage contract without the mention of
the Mah the Mah is not mentioned the
marriage contract is
sound but then the Mah is to be imposed
upon the husband the like of the women
in the same status or the same level as
his wife so it doesn't get you know
cancelled or anything of that nature it
has to be imposed upon the husband so
this is her right to have the Mah and
it's pure money for her
uh the second thing is which basically
spending on his
wife is anything that the wife is is in
need of of course they're living
together so food shelter clothing and
anything that is needed for her to be
self-sufficient this is definitely is
the right that she has upon uh her
husband and that is to be done with the
with matters of goodness and each person
according to the level where Allah
provided for them the poor would spend
accordingly the rich man would spend
accordingly as Allah subh
says that a man if he has spaciousness
then he should spend not to spend like a
poor person but to spend as those who
Allah bestowed his favor
upon and the one that his risk his
Provisions is made tight for him then he
should still spend from whatever Allah
subhana T provided for him uh the
prophet mentioned many hadiths about the
virtue of spending on one's wife and
one's household and he
said the different types of spending
that a person would
do one din that you spend for the sake
of Allah for fighting for the sake of
Allah that you spend it to free a
slave that you would spend to feed a
poor or to give to a poor person when
and A din that you spended on your
family on your wife your
family this is the greatest in reward is
the one that you spend on your family is
the one
that so it shows the virtue of spending
and this is definitely it's an
obligation upon the man to spend on his
wife uh with the other rights as we
heard from the wife to be observed and
it goes like this in such a harmonial
way so uh this is uh this or this na or
this spending of the money whether it's
the Mah or the other financial
responsibilities according to the norm
of the people and usually when people
are living together with matters of
goodness they don't deal with it as if
this is rights it's not a matter of
dispute you know it's not okay you got
the bare minimum that means you don't
ask me for more money it doesn't work
this way but rather it works with
goodness and the man should as Allah
commanded
him live with them with matters of
goodness live with them with matters of
you know which is something that is well
known to be what is good uh and that's
how life is observed and this is how
people they do things and that's why
when we talk about these rights you know
some of it is uh is financial some of it
is non-financial but when it comes to
these types of Rights these are rights
to be observed deserve to be done in the
most perfect way and Allah subhana tala
made this because the way he even
created both men and women men are
created in such a way they're the ones
that have that responsibility to go to
seek the provisions that Allah subhana T
provide for them and though when she
stays home as mentioned before taking
care of the household taking care of the
the the the dependencies in the
household and spending from the
husband's wealth in matters of and
matters of goodness and all of that is
by the mercy of Allah subhana tala for
life to continue to be done in the most
perfect way for the rights of Allah to
be observed it's not about living a
goodly life it's about establishing the
worship of Allah subhana which is the
rights upon them and that's why when
Allah subhana tala when he said for
example when Allah commanding the men
that they spend on their wies on their
spouses spend on their
children with what's known to be good
and what's known to be you know generous
and kind and according to one's capacity
so that nobody would harm another uh the
wife need to observe that her husband is
for example if he's poor he's poor and
she should not burden her husband and to
ask him as if he's rich and if he's Rich
he should give his zaka money and to
fulfill the rights that he has in his in
in in his life all of that is something
that needs to be observed with matters
of goodness and uh when the talked about
the na or spending and they say that how
it's the responsibility of the man with
the wife being honored and dignified you
know when someone spended on someone
else people might think that this is
humiliating of course it's not because
it goes both ways because this is the
command of Allah if it's the command of
Allah subhana tala that means this is
how people should should observe things
and they should be grateful to Allah
subhana tala that this is how things are
and when some of the of the men for
example uh would complain that the money
is not enough so he wants his wife to
work for example so that she can share
with the financial responsibilities in
the household this is not a good thing
but rather people should be humbled and
they should have the the or the
contentment
that the wealth or the earnings of the
husband should be sufficient for them
the greed of this life that people would
have more and more desires of it that
would lead them to fall into sins I mean
we're not talking about what's the
ruling of women working or earning this
is something else that's permissible and
Principle as long as there's no Haram is
involved but when people say that it is
not sufficient for the men only to work
for and many people are upon this this
is not true
Allah subhana T would Bless The Wealth
if it's done in the way that is obedient
to Allah subhana wa tala because as we
see these are commands from Allah this
is how to govern the lives of the people
according to the Quran and the Sunnah of
the
Prophet so these are the financial
rights and then the next subject is the
non-financial uh rights that uh is for
the husband to observe towards his wife
we'll talk about that inshallah Tal next
