alhamdulillah
the
prophet was a normal human
being and like normal human beings he
used to smile and laugh as well as weep
and
cry he was filled with
emotions because he was a great person
he was a great messenger of Allah asael
and part of our
religion is
that there is a place of humor and
laughter happiness and
joy it's not a religion
of being sad and blue rather the prophet
saidat smiling at your brother is an act
of charity
and this
was always done by the prophet
himself he used
to advise his
companions he used to say do not think
little of any act of kindness even if
meeting your brother with a cheerful
face and you can compare this to some of
our brothers of youngsters who when they
start practicing Islam
life turns
ugly no matter where you see them and
you give them Salam
alaykum and there's something wrong with
them their wives complain their children
complain their neighbors
complain this is not the way of the
Prophet may Allah be pleased with him
said I've never seen anyone smiling more
than the prophet
JD may Allah be pleased with him he said
when I accepted is Islam whenever I
sought permission to enter upon the
prophet Alat wasam he would never block
me and whenever he saw me he would smile
in my face
and jabir samur also used to say that we
used to sit with the
prophet and
he was silent most of the time in the
sense that he would remain silent for a
long time and his companions would be
sitting next to him quoting poetry and
reminiscing about things that happened
during the pre-islamic era in
J and they would laugh and the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam would smile
when they laugh see he wouldn't deny
them he wouldn't forbid them from
laughing sallallahu alaihi Ali wasallam
IB haar says this is an indication that
the vast majority of his time the
prophet would not do more than smile
sallallahu alaih alh
wasallam Maybe maybe he would laugh a
little
rarely but what is disliked is to do
that on regular basis that is laughing
and to do it a lot of the time because
it takes away from the Muslims how
dignified they would probably
be the prophet Alat even smiled in the
face of those
who wronged
him an Malik tells us he was walking
once with the prophet Alat
wasam when a man a nomad came from
behind him the prophet was wearing a
cloak that had a very harsh material it
was very
rough so when the man approached the
prophet Alat
wasam he startled
him and not only that he pulled his
cloak from behind him sallallah
Alam and the prophet sallallahu alaihi
Ali wasallam was startled first of all
and not only that
he was hurt and his skin was scratched
because of what the man had
done and not only that
the prophet wasam was addressed
inappropriately so the man said oh
Muhammad give me from the man from the
money you have it's not your money it's
Allah's money
now addressing the prophet
Alam impolitely startling him physically
hurting him any one of us would have
retaliated in a bad fashion but not the
prophet Alat wasam the prophet turned to
him smiled in his face and ordered his
companions to give him
something this is what the
prophet used to
do he used to joke Alam with his
companions
and the word
joking is to be lighthearted to say
lighthearted things to someone else
without offending them and the prophet
used to joke with his companions but he
would never ever
lie and this is what he said and cleared
it to his companions when they said oh
prophet of Allah you joke with us said
yes but I only say which is
true so the prophet doesn't
lie
and examples of how he used used to joke
with his companions for example the
Hadith of anas where he had a young
brother called Abu and this Abu omay had
a small bird in a cage that he used to
play with and one day the bird died so
Abu a 4year old 5-year-old child was
saddened so the prophet used to always
come
and joke with him and
say what did the do so it Rhymes and
every time he sees him he keeps on
asking him the question and the child
would smile because of that not only
that in an authentic Hadith there was a
nomad by the name of
zah may Allah be pleased with him and he
used to come to Medina give the prophet
Alam gifts from the
desert such as ghee such as things that
are not usually found in Medina and the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam used
to address the fact that he was close to
him by saying zah is our man in the
desert and we are his people in the
city the prophet loved him as a
companion and as a a friend as a person
with true
Spirit but zah was actually an ugly
person he wasn't that handsome One Day
the prophet went into the market and saw
zah auctioning some of his
Goods so he came from behind
him and he embraced him and he could not
see him so he was trying to let himself
FL and say who's this let me
go and then when he
recognized that it was the prophet wasam
he kept pushing himself to stick his
back to the prophet's chest he does not
want to be let go so the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam announced to
the public joking with zaher who would
buy this slave from me this is not a lie
he is a slave of
Allah so zah smiled and said oh prophet
of
Allah nobody would buy me I have no
value you will find me unsellable nobody
would buy me the prophet said but with
Allah you are not unsellable you have
great value with
Allah and this shows you that the
prophet s would probably do some
practical jokes but he would not say any
lies also in another Hadith a woman came
an old woman came to the prophet Alat
and said oh prophet of Allah make Dua
for me that I enter Jenna and he said oh
mother of so and so old women never
enter Jenna so the woman started weeping
and
crying because she felt that she was
deprived of entering Jenna due to her
age and she missed her chance the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
comforted her on the spot and said to
him oh mother of so and so didn't you
know that old women never enter J
because
Allah would turn them into young virgins
who are beloved to their husbands and he
recited the Ayah in Surah an
so humor is something that is essential
in our life with some
boundaries with some extent because
without it life would be
unbearable Abu Sal ABD
Rahman may Allah have mercy on him he
said that the companions of the prophet
Alam were not idle or lazy they used to
quote poetry and reminiscence about
things that happened during the time of
Jah and they would laugh about it but
when there was a challenge or they were
forced to compromise something related
to Islam their eyes would grow round and
none of them would accept that and they
would stare in anger so laughing and
smiling has nothing to do with
compromising the
religion and also the uh uh companions
were
asked did the companions of the Prophet
s wasallam used to laugh even Omar was
asked once and he said yes however faith
and Iman in their hearts was greater
than
mountains and bil said I saw the
companions laughing together but when
night came they were like monks meaning
spending their night praying and weeping
out of the fear of Allah so there is no
problem in joking and smiling and
laughing providing that you do not lie
as it's often common among the Muslims
nowadays people pay money to stand up
comedians to lie to them to uh uh uh
roast them to say offensive things to
them just for the sake of laughing this
is totally against Islam the prophet
saidat woe to the one who speaks and
lies in order to make people laugh woe
to him woe to him woe to
