alhamd so fasting is divided into two
types the first type we spoke about it
in the last uh uh class which is the
mandatory obligatory
part the second type is the
recommended type which is the fasting
that is voluntary and
recommended and this is divided into two
types one type is the fasts that are not
connected they have they are General
they don't have a specific reason for it
so you can fast any day you like a
Tuesday a Wednesday you have no problem
as long as there's no restriction no
prohibition you can fast it the second
type is no a type of specific voluntary
fasts that Shar came and recom amended
such as fasting the six days of sha
fasting Mondays and Thursdays fasting
the day ofafa fasting the 9th and the
10th of
ashur now having
said that we have an obligatory part of
fasting and a voluntary part of fasting
this
to make and combine what Islam reward WS
for and loves and
likes on the other side of the coin
there are fasts that are prohibited and
that Islam does not like you to do so
there is something that is forbidden to
fast and there are fasts that are not
recommended the prohibited
fasts is that you fast the day
ofid and we have two days of
and we have the three days
of so these are five days that are
totally prohibited to fast with the
conditions we know about for
the which is that you may fast them if
you in Hajj but for someone who's did
who did not go for Hajj the day of Hajj
the 10th of 11 12th and the 13th these
are prohibited for you to fast
and also the day of
Doubt which is the last day before
Ramadan if we did not see the new moon
and I'm doubtful that this might be
Ramadan it might not be Ramadan so I'm
going to fast either way though this is
prohibited the second type
of fasts that you're not recommended to
do which is Mak such as isolating the
day of Friday Friday with fasting so you
don't fast Thursdays and Friday or
Friday and Saturday rather you just
isolated because it's a Friday this is
Mak and some Scholars even went to the
extent to say that this is prohibited
and
Haram now in
Ramadan it's one of the highlights of
this blessed month that Muslims spend a
great deal of time reciting the
Quran
Fatima may Allah be pleased with
her tells us that her father sallallahu
Al
wasam told her that
jiel used to revise the Quran with him
every
year and in the last year of his life he
revised the Quran with him twice and
this was done in
Ramadan and this revision as abas said
used to be at night so people the
Muslims acknowledged the blessed time of
night of Ramadan so they devoted the
whole entire month of Ramadan for the
Quran and this is what the salaf used to
do
IM whenever Ramadan entered he used to
refrain and says Ramadan is only to
recite the Quran and to feed the food to
the poor Imam Malik would stop studying
and teaching the
Hadith and to sit with the scholars and
he would only limit himself to reciting
the Quran and likewise sufyan thi he
used to devote the entirety of his time
to reciting the Quran in Ramadan and
there are tales and
stories some we can't believe some we
may refrain from believing but it is
possible they say that Imam Shafi in
Ramadan he used
to read the Quran 60 times other than
prayers yeah every day he used to finish
citing the Quran from cover to cover
twice
and IB rajab may Allah have mercy on his
soul
after stating these um Hadith he said
that yes there is a Prohibition to read
the Quran from cover to cover in less
than three days but this
prohibition is understood to take this
as a habit
while if this is done at
specific Seasons such as
Ramadan which people seek after the
night of decree or when people do
this at blessed and honored places such
as Mecca in this case to utilize the
time and the place it is permissible to
do that at more than uh or in less than
days now there are virtues
of um
fasting
and these virtues are so
many because you can't limit it you
can't list
them because this is one of the great
forms of worship it's a pillar of Islam
so as listed in your uh uh books fasting
is means of showing gratitude to the
blessings of
Allah and it's a means of
abandoning
Haram it's one of the ways where you can
overcome your own whims and
desires and also it leads you to have
compassion and mercy upon the poor and
needy
by fasting one may subdue the
shitan and weaken
him
so this whisperings of shatan would be
much less enhance less sins and when
fasting you train yourself to remember
Allah to observe him to know that he's
watching you so you leave what you're
able to do because you know that Allah
is watching you and finally it helps one
to return uh uh to Allah and to turn
away from this dun and its desires and
encourages one to seek that which is
with Allah which is
J so there's a note here and that
is sometimes we may think that
it is already
sunset or that we're still at night so
we continue to drink and eat and after a
while we discover that whoops we were
wrong what to do
alhamdulillah at the time of the Prophet
Alam as narrated by Asma B ABI Bakr she
said we were fasting
and it was a
cloudy
day and it was so dark we thought that
it must have already uh uh
set and so we broke our fast and few
whils few moments
later the clouds were gone and the sun
was still in the
sky so so we continued our
fasting and that day we did not make it
up why because you acted upon what was
most likely in your
estimation likewise if someone was at
night eating and
drinking and he did not hear the aan nor
recognize that it was already the break
of
dawn time and he kept on eating and
drinking and after some time he
discovered that whoops I've already
passed the time of fasting and
refraining from eating and drinking by
10 15 minutes and I ate when it was
already
daytime
alhamdulillah he has to uh uh continue
fasting and his fasting is valid without
any
problem now if you look at some of the
calendars they give away in masjids
you'd find the times of prayer so you
will find
F which is when you break her
fast and then before F you have
iMac and this is an
innovation we do not have a buffer zone
before the break of dawn by 15 minutes
or half a minute by 15 minutes or half
an hour hour where you are supposed to
refrain from eating and drinking because
this is still
night we stop from eating and drinking
and the rest of the things that break
our fast
only when the fer breaks when thean of f
is given and to refrain from that would
not be part of uh the
Sunnah finally let us assume
and this happens if a person is on the
ground
and
he sees the sun setting the m has been
cold and he breaks his
fast seconds later the airplane takes
off
Eastbound and or westbound that is I
think it's Westbound and the moment he
takes off and it goes to high
altitude he sees the
sun now what should we
do well the scholars say your fasting is
valid and when you broke your fast you
broke it because the sun set being
elevated due to the airplane and seeing
the sun again doesn't mean it's a new
day because you saw the Sun so you pray
fer again no nobody says this so it's
the same day but already you have
finished and concluded your day when you
saw the sun
set and likewise if a person is fasting
and just
before Sunset he takes
off and once the airplane is elevated
and he's headed
westbound this means that the sunset is
going to be delayed for maybe three or
four
hours while the people in his hometown
had already broken their fast because
the sun had set but because he's over
the altitude of 30 or 40,000 ft going
westbound he's chasing the
sun and he must not break his fast until
he visibly see the sun had set because
Allah Asel says in the Quran then
complete the fast until the
