and welcome back to the
13th episode in the third level of the
noble prophetic Hadith and today
inshallah we will be learning Hadith
number 12 let's begin by praising the
almighty Allah alone and sending the
greatest peace and salutations upon his
most beloved Prophet Muhammad Sall alhi
wasallam as I mentioned earlier this is
the 13th episode yet we're studying the
12th Hadith and today's Hadith the 12th
Hadith will be divided into two episodes
so 13th and 14th episode we'll be
tackling and learning Hadith number 12
anyway Hadith number 12 is a sound
Hadith and it is narrated by the great
companion who narrated over
5,000 Hadith from the prophet Sall
wasallam no other companion has narrated
a larger volume of a Hadith than
Abu nor even near the number of a Hadith
he narrated from the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam so it was narrated by
AB that the messenger of Allah May the
greatest peace and blessings be upon him
said do you know what backbiting is
referring to
Al They said Allah and his messenger
know best he said it is mentioning
something about your brother that he
doesn't like to be mentioned
with then it was said what if I was
saying something about him which is true
the prophet s. wasam said if what you
say about him is true then this is a
typical backbiting you have indeed back
bitten
him and if it was not true then you have
slandered him
here and before we begin explaining the
meaning
of and the difference between
and you know H in Arabic and the
prohibition ofba I would like to bring
to your
attention a very important meaning which
is how the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam regularly taught his companions
taught them instructed them and inspired
them to adopt the best of
manners the best of etiquette
and
and on the other hand how he has warned
them
[Music]
against the Bad Manners the bad conduct
and have taught them how to abstain from
that by sometimes presenting
questions do you know what
is do you know what backbiting is
because some people as it is obvious in
the Hadith didn't understand what is you
know they assumed when I say somebody is
a Potato Head he's fat belly somebody is
so skinny somebody's things they think
well I didn't wrong him I didn't say
anything bad about her I've actually
talked about
their true nature the
reality I didn't lie about them so the
prophet sallallahu Alam presented the
question in order to find out who knows
and who needs to
know very
clear but what I wanted to share with
you before indulging into the meaning of
the Hadith and particularly the
linguistic meaning and the applied
meaning of the term Reba is how when the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
presented the question by
saying do you know what is do you know
what back biting is what was the reply
of the companions versus what would be
the reply of any of us or most of us
today most of us pretend or tend to
answer in the affirmative like yeah yeah
yeah we know it we know
everything we know what backbiting is we
know what is backbiting and what is
slandering we know this and this and
that so even those who know what who
knew what what backbiting is they didn't
say yes we do rather there was a typical
answer that the companions would always
answer whenever a similar question is
presented which
is Allah in his messenger know best why
to answer this question why that was the
typical
answer I want to take you back to
another Hadith in the farewell ha of the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam when
he returned from and then
in narrated a long Hadith where the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was
addressing all the pilgrims
120 plus thousand
companions then the prophet sallallah
alaihi wasallam
said which day is
this which city is this which month is
this all the companions all the
definitely knew that this is the day
which is the first day of
the 10th day of the month of because
yesterday was the
ninth it's like you know every kid would
know the answer and when he says which
city is this they're in Mina Mina is a
part of meccah as you know is a part of
the Haram so they whether those from
Mecca or those who are coming from
Medina or abroad from anywhere else they
all know that this is the city of Mecca
where do you perform Hajj in Mecca not
in
the and which month is it the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam initially
said that the the time has uh rounded
about and it is now the month of so they
know it is the month of and the day OFA
is the ninth day of the month of so the
three questions the companions were
fully aware of their
answers but every time the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam says which
day is this which month is this which
city is this the answers were
always Allah and his messenger know
bestd
explains they say he said we answered
Allah and his messenger nois because we
assumed that he might give it a
different name he might call it a
different name than the month of month
of whatever uh City of any City other
than the city of Mecca we we don't know
the is still being revealed and
conducted and that's why their answer
whenever the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam presented a question would be
typical Allah and his messenger know
best anticipating the prophet to answer
then the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam answered isn't it the city of
Mecca they said yes indeed isn't it the
month of they they said yes indeed isn't
it the 10th day which
is they said yes indeed then the prophet
sallallah alaihi wasallam meant to
confirm a very valuable meaning in their
mind by saying indeed your blood your
honor and everything of a Believer is as
sacred as this day in this month in this
city mashallah
so here the prophet sallallahu alhi
wasallam asked the question the
companions answered Allah and his
messenger no best then when he confirmed
that it is the Sacred City of
meccah is the sacred month and today is
the greatest day of Haj then he
presented the
likeness of the inviability and the
sacredness of the honor of the believer
of the wealth of the believer of the
life of the believer upon other
Believers that we should respect one
another we should uh protect one another
we should not touch unlawfully the
wealth of others we should not speak ill
about others or try to discredit others
because it is sacred as sacred as Makkah
as sacred as the month of as sacred as
the greatest day of
ha so the prophet sallam used this uh
method of presented a rhetoric question
and then he emphasize the sacredness of
the day and the time and the month and
he liken that or liken the sacredness of
the honor and the life and the wills of
a Believer to the sacredness of the city
of meccah the month of and the day
of and then here the prophet Sall
wasallam again asks do you know what
back biting
is you know the answer right they would
always say Allah and his messenger know
best even if they
know teach usol
Allah he says to M shall I not inform
you about this and this and he says
definitely Allah of
course we all want to learn so he used
to introduce to the
teaching by attracting the audience
shall I not inform you shall I not tell
you shall I not teach you and they said
of course certainly we're eager to learn
what do you think of this Allah and his
messenger no best so when he when he
asked about the definition of
backbiting they said Allah and his
messenger know best so then the prophet
sallallahu alhi wasallam delivered the
applied meaning of backbiting which is
mentioning someone in his or her absence
with what they don't like whether
concerning their body concerning the
religious commitment concerning their
worldly Affairs concerning the look
concerning their family anything about
them which if they were present you
would abstain from talking about it why
because he will offend them so if you
know that you will offend them and they
will dislike it or they will reply
harshly to you you would avoid
addressing these matters in their
presence why do you thereare to speak
about them in their absence with what
they don't like that is
backbiting so the prophet S.I
wasallam delivered this amazing way of
teaching the companions how terrible how
horrible it is to ackowledge into
backbiting then when somebody wanted to
uh you know clarify he said I'm I'm not
saying anything which is not true yes
I'm saying this brother is fat and he's
fat uh this brother is whatever this
sister is short and she's short huh so
would it be still considered he said yes
this is typical this is the actual
backbiting but if you dare to speak
about him or
her and says something which is not in
them that is even worse that is bhan you
have slandered him meaning he have said
something false about him or her and the
root meaning of of the word
ban which is translated here as
slandering refers to telling a lie about
a person to his
face as in the verse of the Quran in
which Allah subhah wa ta'ala says that
those who accuse the believ in men and
women without them having done anything
wrong will bear the guilt of slander and
manifest it manifest sin
this verse is of chapter number 33 verse
number 58 as for the Arabic linguistic
meaning of the
word refers to uh the root word
of which is unseen to speak about
somebody in their absence they don't see
they don't hear you they're absent from
you so you have the Liberty to say
whatever if it is something bad then
this is a major sin which is it is
called so because the person who is
spoken about is absent at the time when
others speak of him while the Islamic
terminology as the prophet sallallahu
alai wasallam defined it refers to
saying about a person in his absence
something that he or she dislikes and
you wouldn't say it in their presence as
I said this Hadith will be taught over
um the course of two sessions so this is
one episode and inshallah in the next
time we'll speak further about
backbiting more in depth uh its
Prohibition in the Quran and whether it
is categorized as a minor sin or a major
sin in addition to uh covering the
lessons that we learn from the beautiful
teachings of the Prophet Sall alhi
wasallam in this Hadith about disliking
and the prohib
of backbiting until next
