alhamdulillah the prophet
am had
neighbors you don't live in a cave
you're not living in the wilderness
alone you live in a community you live
in a society you have neighbors you have
people around you so
what is the etiquette of dealing with
such neighbors we know that when the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was
in
Mecca his neighbors were evil because he
was calling them to Islam he was calling
them to monism he was calling them to
believe in Allah alone and not associate
others with him and they would not find
this easy to swallow so they used to
abuse him physically and mentally and
verbally and do everything they can to
upset him and abuse
himam in
Islam the right of
a neighbor is
huge the prophet saidat wasam the
Archangel jiel kept on reminding me of
the rights of the neighbor until I
thought that at the end of the day he
going to make him one of my heirs that
the neighbor would inherit
me and the prophet Alat wasam in the
farewell Hajj used to always
repeat I remind you of the
neighbors I remind you of your neighbors
I remind you of your neighbors until
they thought that he would make him
inherit who is your
neighbor a neighbor as haar says
includes the
Muslim the
non-muslim the
righteous the
sinful the
friend the
foe the local
The Immigrant or the stranger those who
benefit you those who harm you those who
are close in kin to you those who are
strangers to you and the closer from
living away from you the closer the more
neighborly they are and what are the
rights of a neighbor over a neighbor
there's so many rights
Al says that if he seeks your help you
would help him if he needs to borrow
something from you you lend him if
he is poor you give him whatever extra
you have if he's sick you visit him if
he is blessed with a gift from Allah you
congratulate him if there's if he's
struck by a Calamity you give him your
condolence and if he dies you follow his
funeral you don't try to overlook his
building with building a bigger building
next to him so that you would block wind
and light without his
permission you
don't annoy him or harm him with burning
something or cooking something that
would
reach him without you handing him some
of the food you're cooking if you buy
fruit you give him some of it if you
don't want to give him some of it at
least sneak it into your home without
his children seeing it so that they
would not be envious of
it you start him with
Salam so many of us when we see our
neighbor well last couple of weeks I've
been giving him Salam and they don't
initiate Salam so I'm going to ignore
them no you always do this for the sake
of Allah Overlook their
mistakes lower your gaze when his women
folk are
out and if he's away or traveling take
care of his house so that no Intruders
would go in take care of his children
children when you see them teach him and
them whatever they don't know about this
life this world and about anything else
it is part of
happiness and misery to have a good
neighbor or a bad neighbor the prophet
says
Alam
four are signs of Happiness a good woman
a spacious house a good neighbor and a
good
ride and the opposite is sign of
misery and the prophet sallallahu alaihi
Ali wasallam said that the best of
Neighbors at the sight of Allah are the
best to his
neighbor and the prophet said he whose
neighbor goes to bed hungry while
you are full is not a real believer and
he used to tell Abu oh AB whenever you
cook something make the soup a lot so
that you can give some of it to your
neighbors and the
prophet threatened us and warned us
Thrice by
saying he will not be a believer three
times and they said who oh prophet of
Allah and the prophet said he whose
neighbor is not safe from his
abuse so when you abuse your neighbor
when you harm your neighbor whether by
your rhetoric your actions whether by
taking his parking spot whether by
placing trash on his door whether by
raising the
volume of something that annoys him
music and the the the TV and the likes
all of this is a sign that you're not a
real
believer a man came once to the prophet
Alat
wasam and said oh prophet of Allah I
have a neighbor that is harming me a
lot and the prophet said to him be
patient and the man came three two or
three times and the prophet says be
patient be patient finally he said okay
take all your furniture out and place it
on the road
side so the man did this took his
furniture out and took it to the
roadside and whenever passers by walked
is said
why is your furniture on the road he
would tell them my neighbor harms
me and abuses me and the prophet said to
me to get my furniture and put it on the
roadside so the passers by kept on
cursing his neighbor may Allah curse
your neighbor may Allah curse your
neighbor when the neighbor saw this and
that the people were cursing him he said
to him my brother brother come get your
furniture back by Allah you will never
see anything bad from me I would never
do this to you again
and if your neighbor invites you it a
Sunnah to accept his
invitation as the prophet did thatat and
he used to do this a lot and he would
also of course insist on accompanying
his wife
with him because he loved her and he
would love her to join him in whatever
goodness he's enjoying and being invited
to so the status of a neighbor is
extremely huge but what are or what is
the limits of a
neighbor there isn't any
specific guidelines some Scholars say
your neighbor is whomever pray PRS with
you f in the
Masid so those who pray in the Masjid
they are your neighbors some say it's
the seventh
door
to you from all sides and some increase
it some decreases
it and it's according to the Norms of
the community whomever they considered
to be a neighbor that would be
classified as a neighbor and Allah knows
