In the name of Allah, the compassion of
the merciful. All praise is due to Allah
and may the peace and blessings of Allah
be upon his prophet Muhammad, his family
and his companions all until the day of
resurrection. and I welcome you to this
new episode of the taps, the fourth
level at Zed Academy. And we are
starting with uh surah a and surah ashar
is a meccan surah. And by the way, all
of the 21 suras that we will be
discussing in this level are all Meccan
suras, meaning that they were revealed
before the hijra of the prophet
sallallah.aii
wasallam. But except three suras alah
and al-Naser. These are the three suras
that were revealed after the hijra and
more probably they were revealed in
Medina in alina.
Now we are discussing where allahel says
afterman
The meaning of this is the following.
Allahel says, "Did you not fill Did we
not fill your heart, oh Muhammad, with
reassurance and comfort,
and we removed from you your burden
which had weighed upon your back, and
raised high your for you your renown.
For indeed with hardship will be ease.
Indeed with hardship will be ease. So
when you have finished your duties
then stand up for worship and to your
lord direct your longing. This is surah
ash is 1 to8. Now coming to the
commentary
uh the surah begins with the mention of
this great and immense blessing that
Allah has given to his prophet Muhammad
sallallahu alaihi wasallam reminding him
um of of that as he did as he said did
we not fill your heart oh Muhammad with
reassurance and comfort comfort alam
Did we not illuminate your heart with uh
and open it um for to guidance faith in
allahel
and the knowledge of the truth this is
like the verse where Allah subhana wa
ta'ala says the concept of or opening
the heart re giving it this assurance
when allahel says
So whoever Allah wants to guide, he
opens his heart to Islam. This is in
surah al.
Now um we the meaning we forgave we
forgive you your previous sins and
removed from your shoulders the burden
of that day and we removed from you your
burden.
Actually this wizard is is burden uh uh
the burden of the days of ignorance the
time ofah before Islam that you lived
through. This is like the verse where
allahel says
that Allah may forgive you will forgive
for you what
preceded of your sins and that what will
follow. So Allah subhanana wa ta'ala
gave the prophetam this uh special
blessing where he for forgave him all of
his previous sins uh and even the sins
that may occur afterwards. And these are
the very minor sins that the prophet
wasallam may have or will probably
commit after the revelation of this of
this surah. So uh which had weighed upon
your back.
So the burdened and exhausted your back.
That is that is the uh meaning of the
ayah until now. And then allahel says
and raised high for you your renown. And
this is another blessing that Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala will remember and
will uh let people Muslims utter the
name of the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. So no, a person who gives a
sermon or no uh no one making
at the end of their salah except that
they will say
I bear witness that there is no deity
worthy of worship except Allah and I
bear witness that Muhammad is the
messenger of Allah. So and of course in
Arabic uh a poet said the meaning of
which Allah joined the name of the
prophet to his name for every time the
muadin gives the call to prayer five
times a day he says I bear witness you
know the muadin says
so
he repeats it two times So that is how
Allah joins his uh name and mention
subhanahu wa ta'ala with the mention of
his prophetat
uh for indeed with hardship will be ease
that is with the hardship uh you are
facing against the polytheists and the
disbelievers they will be ease and
comfort meaning that even allahel will
cause you to prevail over them so that
they will not uh so you will not submit
to uh say well they they will not submit
to the truth that you have brought to
them. So that is the meaning of uh
and this is repeated again
indeed with hardship will be ease. uh
this uh is repeated to confirm the
promise and the um and to increase the
hope of the prophet Aliatam.
So when you have finished your duties,
then stand up uh for worship meaning at
night for prayer and give more effort
and exert this effort to do more
worship. Um and and again and to your
Lord direct your longing.
So uh uh that is have great hope that
allahel will answer your supplication.
So you join the the the worship uh the
heart the the the the the worship again
with uh supplication and both will be
answered will be accepted from you. And
this is exactly uh what a a Muslim is
supposed to do that when they when they
are done with their duties um whatever
that those duties might be um a person
should not uh be lazy and and and and uh
and go into the pursuit uh of turning
away from Allah but rather they need to
come closer to allahel and do more of
these good deeds. Now coming to the what
we learn from these uh verses. What we
learn is first the surah reflects um or
refers to what befell the prophet
sallall.aii
alaihi wasallam when he um felt so tired
of carrying the burdens of the uh sins
uh that he that it weighed upon his his
own backam
and this is as you know because he is
the prophetatam
he cared about whatever sins he
committed or were uh was subject to
during the times of ignorance before the
coming of Islam. And he lived through
that period again facing these um before
the Quran was revealed because before
before he was given the mission to to
deliver the message from allahel.
Actually he he carried some some burden
there. But then allahel says then uh
Allah revealed him of this and that's
that's why the surah is is a great hope
not only for the prophetat wasam for but
for every believer who might have gone
through the same thing as the prophetat
wasam did because uh you know many
people don't care uh whatever they faced
uh they uh they have a weak iman and
they have lack lack of insight and great
um heedlessness and that therefore they
they don't they don't care about about
their own sins. That's that's the first
benefit. The second one and what we can
learn from from this surah is the
question was it possible that the
messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam
could commit sin? Well, some people say
that the prophet sallallaihi wasallam is
was not supposed to commit sins. But
then actually he's a human being and if
we have if we refer to scholars like
who said uh yes uh we cannot reject the
uh text simply because we think that it
is unlikely that the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam could not commit sin.
actually he was susceptible to
committing a sin. But then because as he
was said
every son of Adam is prone to sin and
the best of those who sin are those who
repent. So this is a hadith that was
said by the prophetat wasam. But of
course there are some sins the major
sins that it's not possible and it's not
befitting for his messengeratam to
commit such sins uh like lying,
treachery, zena and other kinds of
foolish and evil and vile behaviors.
that is not possible because it does not
fit uh that he was a messenger and it is
not it is going to be contrary to the
fundamentals of the message that he
brought Aliatam.
Then we go to the third benefit and what
we learn from the surah is this surah
contains great glad tidings to the
prophetatamish
which is that he uh that every time
there is a hardship
and difficulty
uh ease will accompany it actually uh to
the extent that if a hardship uh were to
enter a lizard's hole then ease will
follow it and bring it out. Look at this
very great expression. This is found in
the books of as Allah says
Allah will bring about after hardship
ease. So there are there's always uh uh
ease with hardship and if you face some
difficulty there will be ease inshallah
coming on the way. So one should be
patient and that's a glad tiding for the
prophetatam and to all believers. Then
uh look at this the uh because of this
expression
one hardship cannot overcome one ease.
Oh two eases sorry one hardship cannot
overcome two eases. Look at that.
One one or one hardship cannot overcome
two eases. And that comes from the
expression because the word or hardship
is in the definite form and uh the user
is is is repeated
um two times meaning that is different
because it's in the indefinite form and
this is the norm in in the Arabic
expression because that's the convention
of the Arabs uh that they say if the
noun is mentioned in the definite form
then repeated the second is the same as
the first. When you when when you see
I saw the man
and I was generous to the uh to the man
meaning this it's the same same man
because the man or
it was in the definite form but if it is
in the indefinite like uh I said
I saw a man and Then I was generous to a
man. So the two men are different. The
first one is not like the same as the
second one. So that is that is the
expression there.
And uh you should you should go and and
and and try and and get examples that
will make it even more clearer. Let's
get into the um u uh the activities of
this uh lesson. uh write the text to
each verse in in the surah another
verse. Well, because they're always
Quran
ayas support one another. Uh when Allah
says, "Did we not uh fail your heart?"
We already mentioned that.
That is for the first one and for the
second one with and we remove for you
your burden because
It is like when Allah says
and this you find in fat. Now secondly
give examples from where you see the uh
in your own daily life of the high
renowns of the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. Well, the prophet is mentioned
uh always in the beginning of in during
the time of adan inah in the prayer and
when people see something or they say
this
before you even go to to bed there are
many
times where the mention of the prophetam
is there in um in in our daily
activities. This brings us to the end of
our lesson today. Until we meet in the
second one, I leave you with Allah's
care and protection.
