Alhamdulillah.
I start in the name of Allah, the
compassionate, the merciful. All praise
is due to Allahawel and may the peace
and blessings of Allah be upon his
prophet Muhammad, his family, his
companions, and all of his followers
until the day of resurrection. Welcome
to this new lesson, an episode of the
subject of Taps level four at Zad
Academy and we are dealing with Alar.
Surah Al is a Mecca surah revealed
before Hijra. And in this surah there
are 11 ayas where Allah says the
following. After
These are 11 ays where Allah says the
meaning of which the striking calamity.
What is the striking calamity and what
can make you know what is the striking
calamity? It is the day when people will
be like moths dispersed and the
mountains will be like wool fluffed up.
Then as for one whose scales are heavy
with good deeds, he will be in a
pleasant life.
But as for one whose scales are light,
his refuge will be in an abbus. And what
can make you know what is it? What it
is? It is a fire intensely hot. So this
is these uh the meanings of these verses
and coming to the commentary uh the
striking calamity
this refers to the hour Assah
the horror of which will strike people's
hearts because of the enormity
uh of what will befall them and uh of
catastrophe at that time. That's why
called al
is one of the names of the day of
resurrection. It is also called
the overwhelming
calamity
the deafening blast
the inevitable reality
the overwhelming event. So all these are
names of the day of resurrection
and of course uh uh there are suras
named after all these particularly like
and is in
is inb and so on. So what is the
striking calamity?
uh this appears in the form of a
question to reflect how momentous and
significant that hour will be. What is
the hour whose terror will strike
people? How momentous and how terrifying
it will be? This is like the passage in
which Allahel says the same thing. the
inevitable reality.
He said,
"What is the inevitable reality?
And what can make you know what is the
inevitable reality
and
what can you can make you know what is
the striking calamity?" So these are uh
names and and and the same thing is
repeated in a different surah of the
glorious Quran to emphasize the
importance and significance and how hor
horrifying the hour will be for everyone
but of course for the disbelievers in
particular. And what can make you know
what is a striking calamity? This uh
that is what can make you realize and
understand. Oh Muhammad what is a
striking calamity? Because that is uh
the the person addressed by this is the
prophet sallallah.aii wasallam and of
course his own followers after him.
It is the day when people will be like
moths dispersed. So the people will be
like moths and other insects like
mosquitoes and the like that will fall
into the fire. This is this is when
people how people will be on the day of
judgment. Um this is like the verse in
which allahel says in
as if they were scattered
uh locusts. So like jarad like uh uh
here uh
moths and so on. So that is what uh the
ayah is about and the mountains will be
like wool fluffed up. Remember these
strong mountains made of rocks will be
very light and like they will be uh like
wool fluffed up and uh starting to split
and be torn apart.
push. And then then as for one, now
after the resurrection and when when
everything will be destroyed and people
will be brought from inside the earth
and the graves and so on and be
collected for accountability. Then as
for one whose scales are heavy, that is
with heavy deeds, with good deeds. Then
when their good deeds weigh out their
bad deeds, of course, um they will be
put in a uh in a balance or a scale that
has pans and a pointer in the middle. So
how they how they turn to uh one side or
the other. Now if the good deeds
outweigh the bad deeds, they will be
that is a heavy that's a heavy scale for
them. And uh this person he will be in a
pleasant life that is paradise living in
a pleasant life. Of course that's the
reququidd for their good deeds for the
doers of good deeds. But as for one
whose scales are light meaning that the
good deeds are very little and they the
bad deeds are more. So they outweigh uh
the good deeds and therefore uh uh this
person will plummet and fall head on
into the and and they they will be he
will be he will be in the fire of hell.
His refuge will be um an abbus his
refuge.
It's just like when a person uh like an
abbus meaning
and this is one of the names of the uh
days of of of hellfire and this person's
refuge will be in uh hellfire and it was
called uh
it's just like and meaning the place he
returns to his own abode. his own home
will be in in as he as he does in this
in this world. And what can make you
know what it is?
Again, it's a a question that emphasize
the terrifying and the uh momentous uh
nature of what the matter is on the day
of judgment. It is a fire
that is
meaning very intensely hot uh fire and
extremely extremely burning uh as we see
in the in the glorious Quran and the
Sunnah's texts. Uh now it was narrated
from Abu
that the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam said this fire of yours which
is lit by the sons of Adam meaning in
this is 170th part of the fire of hell.
The prophetam said,
"And of course the companions said by
Allah if the if if it was like this then
that would be sufficient."
And the messenger sallallah.aihi
alaihi wasallam said it is 69 times more
intense than that each time as hot as
this worldly fire
meaning that every part is like the heat
of this of the of the fire in this life
in this dunya. So it means it's very
very hot and very intensely
uh uh and gravely hard uh hot this this
is this is uh the reality of jannam may
Allah forbid uh for us to to uh to
enter.
Now coming to the benefits of this of
this surah uh first the surah indicates
that the day of resurrection there will
be scales and balances as Allah says
and we make the uh scales um that are
just uh uh on the day of judgment. So
will there the question comes will there
be one scale or several scales? Some
scholars said that it will be one scale
and the plural meaning moazin or scales
was used because of the many people's
deeds that will be weighed in. So
depending on the number of people and
the number of of of uh the uh the deeds
uh there was the uh form plural was used
for that. Other scholars said that there
will be several balances and scales.
Each nation will have its own scale and
each type of deed will have its own
scale and so on. Um that's why the
plural is used.
We have Muhammadbah
who said what is most likely uh to be
the case and Allah knows best is that
there will be only one balance or one
scale and and and and that's that's why
there's only one misan or one scale on
the day of judgment. Now in case where a
person's good deeds and bad deeds are
equal, what would happen? Well, nothing
has been said in the glorious Quran or
the Sunnah regarding this. Um uh uh
however in surah alahel
um rather they they will be uh detained.
So people who have equal deeds
uh good and bad all equal together and
and no one side weigh the other
uh then no no one side outweighs the
other then we say that uh these are the
people of Assadi who has his own
said the scholars and the commentators
differed um as to who the people of Araf
are and what their deeds are. Well, the
correct view concerning that is that
they are people whose good deeds and bad
deeds are equal and their bad deeds do
not outweigh their their their good
deeds and their bad deeds their good
deeds do not outweigh their bad deeds
and therefore they will remain in as
long as allahel wills then Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala will admit them by
his own mercy to paradise afterwards for
his mercy proceeds and prevails over his
wrath and his mercy encompasses all
things.
So his own mercy encompass encompasses
every everything. Uh coming to the
activities of uh the the surah list some
of the names of the day of resurrection
that you have come across in your
studies. We we already mentioned that
Alash
all these are the days of resurrection.
Correct. The following
is one of the names of what? Of hell?
No, it's of the day of resurrection.
Refers to flying moths. No, it refers to
the wool fluffed up. Now, one whose
scales are heavy because they did they
did so many bad deeds. No, because they
did so many good deeds. And Alawia is
one of the names of the day of
resurrection. No, it's one of the names
of hellfire. May Allah forbid. So, uh,
that brings us to the end of our lesson
for today. Until we meet you, inshallah,
in the coming lesson, I leave you with
Allah's care and protection.
