Alhamdulillah.
In the name of Allah, the compassion and
the merciful. All praise is due to
Allah. And may the peace and blessings
of Allah be upon his prophet Muhammad,
his family, his companions, and his
followers all until the day of
resurrection. Welcome to this new lesson
and episode of the series of tier level
four at Zed Academy. And today we are
dealing with surah als this is a medi or
a
med
surah revealed after the hijra of the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. It's
known also as
the surah of farewell which we will be
dealing with and why was it called so.
So first let's recite the surah after
Allahel says the meaning of which when
the victory of Allah has come and the
conquest and you see the people entering
into the religion of Allah
in multitudes then glorify and praise
your lord and ask forgiveness of him
indeed he is ever accepting repentance
subhanahu wa ta'ala so this is these are
three ayas of al-n and let's talk about
the virtues of this surah there are many
or several virtues regarding the uh
importance of this surah first al- bkari
uh rahim
narrated that
said uh the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam never offered any prayer after
when the victory of Allah has come and
the conquest was revealed to him but he
would say in it. So he did not leave
saying this statement after this surah
was revealed.
Glory and praise be to you our lord. Oh
Allah forgive me. So that's what the
prophet sallallah alaihi wasallam did.
Now also uh Ahmed
Ahmed narrated that Abbas
said when when the victory of Allah has
come and the conquest meaning the surah
was revealed the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam realized that he had
been given the news of his approaching
death. Um also IBI
narrated that Abi said when when the
victory of Allah has come in the
conquest he was revealed and the news of
his approaching death was given to the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. He
never uh got up from any gathering he
attended without saying
Glory and praise be to you, oh Allah. I
bear witness that there is no god worthy
of worship except you. I seek your
forgiveness and repent to you. So that
was because of his approaching death.
The Al Hassan said he was informed of
his death uh uh that his death was
approaching. So he was instructed to
glorify Allah and seek his forgiveness
so that his life would end with an
increase in good deeds or righteous
deeds. It was said that the prophet
wasallam lived for two more years after
the revelation of this surah. It was
equivalent to one quarter of the Quran.
They narrated
um the uh from anus
that the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam said to a man, have you not
memorized
uh
when the victory of Allah has come and
the conquest?
He said yes. He said
it is equivalent to one quarter of the
Quran. So you can see the virtue uh the
virtues the several virtues of this
surah uh that was revealed upon the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
what what what meant and of course now
you understand why it was called surah
or the surah of farewell because that is
like paying farewell to the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and giving
him the news of his approaching deatham
Coming to the commentary,
when the victory of Allah has come and
the conquest that is when the victory of
Allah over uh your enemies, over the
people of Quraysh and those who denied
your uh your message in the beginning,
but now you came over and in and Islam
uh spread in in a very very large uh uh
momentum and and and it covered almost
uh much of the Arabian Peninsula and
many tribes came into the folds of
Islam. And then the conquest and the
conquest which is the uh conquerance and
the conquest of Mecca which occurred in
the month of Ramadan uh in the eth year
of hijra and allahel called it a clear
conquest as he said subhanahu wa ta'ala
in fat indeed
we gave you oh Muhammad a clear conquest
And indeed it was. Now the word
multitudes
refers to a large number of distinct
groups and many many tribes coming to
the folds of Islam. It was narrated that
Abbas
said whilst the messenger of Allah
wasallam was in Medina. He said Allah
abar Allah abar uh the victory of Allah
has come and the conquest
the people of Yemen have come. Look
after the conference of Mecca. The
people of Yemen came to uh to the
prophet sallall alaihi wasallam
submitting and accepting Islam. It was
said, "Oh messenger of Allah, who are
the people of Yemen?" Because they were
not very much in contact with the people
of Yemen at that time. He said, "People
who are tender of hearts and gentle of
nature, faith is Yemen, understanding of
religion is Yemen, and wisdom is Yemen."
He talked about the people of Yemen by
saying,
So what a praise for the people of Yemen
at that time and I hope they will
continue to be so. Now it was narrated
also by Alakim
uh that Abu
said the messenger of Allah
wasam recited the words and when the
people uh entering into the religion of
Allah in multitudes
when you see the people entering into
the religion of Allah in multitudes and
uh and said they will surely exit in it
uh exit exited in multitudes just as
they entered it in multitudes.
So that was like a prophecy from for the
from the prophet sallallaham.
And indeed it happened later on at the
time of Abu Bakr after the death uh of
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
Then glorified and glorify and praise
your lord and ask forgiveness of him.
Allah instructed his messenger
sallallah.aii wasallam to glorify him
and instructed him to seek forgiveness.
Now we can distinguish between
and forgiveness. What is
to declare allahel
um uh
to be far above any anything that is not
befitting his majesty subhanahu wa
ta'ala is praising allahel for his
attributes with love and veneration
andar is seeking forgiveness asking him
for forgiveness subhana so we can
understand now difference between all of
the three terms used in the surah.
Indeed, he is ever accepting of
repentance
that is keen to accept the repentance of
his slaves. And this is a good and great
uh promise from allahel that he would
accept the repentance. First he would
guide people to repent or Muslims to
repent. then he would accept it from
them and he would give forgive them out
of his own uh vastness of mercy
subhanahu wa tala and immense grace. Now
coming to what we learn from this surah.
We learn so much. First uh the
difference between
and as we already uh talked about but
why did Allahel say
first then
why was it in that order? Well, because
shortly I would summarize all of what
has been written here is that um
is solely for Allah or purely for
allahel. So that's his own right first
and then praise to praise allahel is to
thank him for his blessings and that is
between the the servant and uh his his
his lord allahel. So this is between uh
the person and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
or we call it the slave of allahel and
for the benefit of seeking forgiveness
is for solely for the benefit of the of
the slave. So that's why it comes after
and also before making
you also praise Allah as if you are
making dua normally you start your dua
by praising allahel uh praying upon the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam then
afterwards you make your dua andar
as well so that is the Quranic etiquette
it's a great example of the Quranic
etiquette in adab and the way it
addresses things like this. So that is
the reason. Then we talk about the
instruction uh to uh to seek forgiveness
in these verses is only because of
arrogance that may enter into a person's
heart. So you need because this is
talking about victory um in Mecca and
the conquest of of Mecca which is so
beloved to Muslims and therefore
maybe when when you have victory like
this arrogance may creep into the heart
that's why you need to glorify allahel
and ask him forgiveness
because normally when you are victorious
you might feel of course the prophet
Wasallam is not of that type but it's an
instruction for him an instruction for
the believers afterwards. One may seek
forgiveness for thought uh that may
cross in his minds just only the mere
fact that a passing thought that may
come to your to your heart and therefore
you need to makear for this reason or
you may think that the promise of
victory from Allah is is late or would
not come uh soon. So that's why you need
to uh uh to ask Allah forgiveness as
Allah said subhanahu wa ta'ala until
their me messenger and um those who
believed with him said when is the help
of Allah
so they felt like it was late it didn't
come in time and Allah says
unquestionably ly uh the help of Allah
is near. So no question about it. So
forgiveness is is sought for this for
this reason and uh also one should seek
forgiveness from falling short in
praising and thanking allahel. Soar
serves many purposes like taking the
arrogance um not having passing thoughts
of the delay of the victory of Allah or
because of the shortcomings u in in
praising Allah and thanking him
subhanahu wa ta'ala also um seeking
forgiveness and the moment of victory
makes a person acknowledge his own
shortcomings yet victory is from Allah
not necessarily because of your effort
not because of your effort it's from
allahel So you should acknowledge your
shortcomings, your helplessness and you
should suppress the feeling of arrogance
through seeking forgiveness from
Allahawel.
Um and this exactly the uh uh attitude
of Ysefatam
when he attained victory and and power
and was you know reunited with his
family um and brothers what he said
there you have you have the translation.
My lord, you have uh given me something
of sovereignty and uh taught me of the
interpretation of dreams uh creator of
heavens and earth. You are my protector
in this world and in the hereafter.
uh cause me to die in a Muslim and join
me as a Muslim or or cause me to die a
Muslim and join me with the righteous.
So that is how uh Ysefat wasallam said
and also the same thing with uh
when uh he saw the throne of the queen
of Sabbah Shiva uh standing before him
he said
This is from the favor of my Lord to
test me whether I will be grateful or
ungrateful. And whoever is grateful, his
gratitude is only for the benefit of
himself. And whoever is ungrateful then
indeed uh my lord is free of need and uh
generous subhanahim.
Um also this is the attitude of the
prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi
wasallam throughout his life in the
moments of victory he came to Mecca
entered Mecca when his head was almost
reaching the back of his uh she camel
when he was uh uh riding and he entered
Mecca in uh humbility and in and
humility uh reciting the book of allahel
and reading when the victory of Allah
and the conquest uh came to him uh by
the grace of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
and he was asking forgiveness coming to
the activities of this lesson complete
the following surah anas is called also
what
the farewell surah after the surah was
revealed the prophetam um lived for how
many years two years of course it is
equivalent to what third half well
quarter of the Quran explain the
difference between these Three acts of
worship
and we already talked about declaring
allahel to be far above any uh thing
that does not be his majesty subhanahu
wa ta'ala is to praise allahel for his
attributes with love and veneration and
is to seek forgiveness. What is the
reason why is mentioned uh first then
seeking forgiveness in we talked about
that is for allahel only. So it it took
precedence then alhamd which is shared
between Allah and the servant and then
which is solely for the benefit of the
slave himself. So that's why it came in
late in in in these in these three
levels. So that brings us to the end of
our lesson for today. Until the coming
lesson, I leave you with Allah's care
and protection.
