In the name of Allah, the compassion to
the merciful. All praise is due to
Allah. And may the peace and blessings
of Allah be upon his prophet Muhammad,
his family, his companions, and his
followers all until the day of
reckoning. I welcome you to this new
lesson and episode from the series of
level four at Zad Academy and we are
dealing today with surah alak. This is a
surah revealed after the hijra. So it
was revealed after h and the and this
says after.
So the meaning of these verses is this.
Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of they
break from the evil of that which he
creates, and from the evil of darkness
when it grows intense, and from the evil
of the blowers on knots, and from the
evil of an envir.
So these are five ayat from surah al
falak and uh these are all the five ayah
in that surah and let's talk about the
virtues uh the virtue of this surah
surah is has has many virtues first uh
muslim reported that
said the messenger of Allah wasallam
said have you heard some verses that
were revealed last night like of which
was never revealed before.
Say I seek refuge in the Lord of
daybreak
and say I seek refuge in the lord of
mankind also and surah anas. So these
are the ayah in both suras that were
revealed to the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam. And it was narrated
also that
said the messenger of Allah
wasallam instructed me to recite
and
is to uh seek Allah's protection
subhanahu wa ta'ala following every
prayer to say it after the obligatory
prayer and it was narrated that uh he
also
said the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam said no one ever asked of Allah
with the like of these two or sought
refuge with him with the like of these
two.
So that is also another hadith also
hadith another hadith was reported by
uh that when the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam went to his bed every
night he would put his cupped hands
together meaning making it like this and
when he would blow then he would blow in
into them and recite into them say he is
Allah
who is one
say I seek refuge in the Lord of
daybreak
and say I seek refuge in the Lord of
mankind.
This is surah anas. Then he would wipe
with his hands over uh whatever his uh
he could of his body starting with his
head and face and the front of his body.
So starting with that and completing
with the rest of as he could of his body
he would do that three times. So look at
this sura as a source of protection. uh
these three suras actually with alas and
alak and anas coming to the commentary
of these verses say I seek refuge in the
lord of daybreak alak
translated as daybreak refers to dawn
because Allah says subhanahu wa ta'ala
in
he is the clearer of daybreak he is the
cleaver of daybreak.
So this is a command from all to his
messenger sallallahu alaihi from allahel
to his messenger instructing him to seek
refuge in him.
The meaning is I seek refuge in the
cleaver of the of daybreak meaning the
rub uh uh and the one who really
controls the daybreak to grant me
security from the evils of the night
from the evil of that which he creates.
So this is a general statement from the
evil of everything that Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala created in this world as well
as in the hereafter and from the evil of
darkness
uh which it which it grows intense when
it grows intense. So it could mean
either one of two things. Uh it refers
to the night when it comes with its
darkness or to the moon when it it's
eclipsed and turn dark. So there is no
contradiction here because it all talks
about darkness
talk about all the night. It's about the
night. Allah says elsewhere until the
darkness
of the night referring to its intense
darkness
until the darkness
of the night as Allah says inah
when the sun starts to move from the
zenith towards the west that is the
beginning of
until the darkness of the night. So, uh
normally when we talk about this uh you
know we can talk about that in the
benefits but uh it's it's worth
mentioning here that many crimes are
committed at night. Many evil things are
done at night. That's why we seek refuge
of Allah from the darkness of the night.
Uh Ahmed narrated that
said, "The messenger of Allah sallall
alaihi wasallam took uh took me by hand
by the hand and showed me the moon when
it rose and he said seek refuge uh with
Allah from the evil of this the moon
when it is eclipsed
when it grows intense." The word
translated as grows intense refers to
entering.
In other words, when its darkness
encroaches on the on the light of the
day. That's why
is entering and he's covering uh the the
the light of the day. And Allah singles
out the most intense times of the night
for seeking refuge with with him because
of the likelihood of harm occurring at
those times. We've already mentioned
that regarding the night and the crimes
and the and the evils that may be done
um at night and from the evil of the
blowers on knots. This uh refers to
witches who blow on unto knots tied in
threads when casting their spells. So
when they do their magic and and they do
that uh nef refers to blowing unto knots
without spittle while te refers to
blowing with uh spittle. So actually
that's the difference between yu and
yetu in in Arabic. So you should know
the difference. And from the evil of an
envir uh when he envys that is the evil
soul and eye of the son of Adam that is
mean humans when they when they envy you
also seek protection of Allah from them
for they used to to envy the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam as allahel
says elsewhere.
And indeed those who disbelieve would
almost make you slip with their eyes
when they hear the message.
That is they envy you and seek harm to
you with their gaze and
the prophet was protected from them. Now
what we learn from the uh the surah is
this surah actually is an instruction
from allahel to his prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam uh to then to all the
the believers afterwards. So you that is
an instruction to the prophet but it's
for all the believers at all times that
you seek the protection and seek refuge
with allahel from every frightening
thing visible or or invisible known or
unknown. So this is this is very
important also uh the mention of the
darkness when it grows intense the
blowers are nuts and the envir when when
he envys because all of the troubles
that result in these three cases are
hidden and not obvious. So that's why
you need to seek the protection of
Allah.
coming to uh the way to rid yourself of
these three evils. That's the benefit of
how you protect yourself. First, you
should um connect your heart with
Allahel
and uh uh uh delegate your affairs uh to
him subhanahu wa ta'ala and truly rely
on him.
Then secondly to preserve and keep the
uh a andar. So all the vikars that have
been reported in the sunnah of the
prophet sallallaihi wasallam to keep
them to read them uh morning and evening
and throughout after the prayers before
you go to bed before you eat before you
you go out when you enter when you enter
into um the toilet and when you come out
and so on and so forth. So these are the
reasons uh and and sources of uh the
production of all the evils and and and
and evildoers. And then thirdly
is that the reason why so many people
may fall uh into the pro these problems
the evils of the night, the evils of the
uh inveyors and the also those who
witches who do magic and so on is
because of the heedlessness of people.
People do not do that. The many people
are not careful uh of of reciting their
u avkar and and and a to protect them
from these evils and they do not take
the good and and legal reasons in the
eyes of Sharia to protect them and
protect themselves from these evils. All
right, coming to the activities here. uh
draw a line between the Quranic word and
their meanings. Well, what do you think?
What is al
in B? What is it? Daybreak. Okay.
So it it may be it should be
a lash- apostrophe a w
actually turning to
and
is we already explained which is
darkness and
which is
coming from the verb.
which is to enter and nef and we
distinguished between nef and nef is
what blowing without spittle. So these
these are the uh connections here. Try
to categorize the types of evil that uh
are mentioned in this surah. Well, there
are several ones. First the evil of all
the creations of allahel and the evils
of the night and the moon when they grow
intense or become dark and also from the
evil of the uh blowers in onto knots.
These are the witches and um whether
they are men or women and from the evil
of the envyers, people of human race who
may envy a person. Uh describe the uh
correct Islamically prescribed way to
rid oneself of the evils mentioned in
the surah and others like them. We
already talked about that earlier and
the benefits and and lessons we learned
from the surah which are to uh depend on
allahel to uh put your trust in him and
to uh remember him and also to keep
doing your and
not be heedless about them and remember
Allah at all times so he will remember
you subhanahu wa'tala. So that brings us
to the end of our lesson for today.
Until I see you inshallah in the coming
lesson, I leave you with Allah's care
and protection.
