Alhamdulillah.
The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
was a human being like us. But he was
the perfect human being in the sense
that
he used to rejoice
but he also had grief when things made
him sad or so sorry or sorrow came up to
him. This was normal and this is a gift
from Allahawel to us to know and to
acknowledge that our role model model
himself has these feelings which are
natural
and sorrow and grief, sadness,
such negative feelings are natural
because
they come to everyone of us. Allahel
says in the Quran,
we have created
mankind in hardship, in trials, in
difficulties. And this is part of life.
You would never find the taste of
comfort
and true happiness until you put your
first foot in Jenna, in paradise. The
moment you put your first foot in
paradise, there's no going back. It's
over. It's happiness for eternity.
And this is why the people of Jenna, as
Allah tells us in the Quran, when
they're admitted to Jenna, they say,
"Alhamdulillah,
praise be to Allah who took away the
sorrow."
So there is no more sorrow in Jenna.
And this grief, this sadness, the
prophet sallallaihi wasallam used to
seek refuge in Allah from it in the
famous dua.
Oh Allah, I seek refuge in you from
worries
and sorrow. worries of things that may
come and sorrow of things of the past.
And sorrow itself and grief
is not something that is praised. It's a
calamity. It is something you seek
refuge in Allah from. But when it takes
place
then you have to be patient because it
is something that you would be rewarded
for. The prophet said in an authentic
hadith that any type of sorrow or
worries even a thorn that pricks you
Allah who derays your sins from it or by
through it.
But what are the causes of sorrow that
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
used to have?
He used to
feel the grief and the sorrow when
people turned their backs to his call to
his dawa. When he's calling them to save
themselves from hellfire, when he's
inviting them to be admitted to Jenna
and they refuse and reject, Allah says
in the Quran, "We know that it grieves
you. It saddens you that what they say.
But let it be known that they do not
accuse you of lying. However, the
wrongdoers reject the signs of
Allahawel.
And Allah said to his messenger and be
patient and your patience is only
through Allah and don't feel sorry for
them.
So this is certainly one of the main
causes of the prophet's griefam
and being sad at times
for his keenness that all humanity would
accept Islam and they are the one who
are rejecting that
also one of the reasons for the
prophet's griefatam
is when the revelation
seized and stopped momentarily.
And this happened
when the prophet sallallaihi wasallam
was given the revelation for the first
time. And it happened also at
a later stage
in the Mecca period.
And this
in the first happened so that after
Gabriel peace be upon him said recite
recite recite three times and gave him
the revelation for the first time. It
was
wise to give him some time to reflect
and to ponder upon what had happened and
also to feel eager to receive more
so that what he had received earlier
would not be a sign of insanity or
something. So his anticipation
would prepare him for what was coming.
And this is why in the beginning
that
issue of being eager to receive the
revelation
and also in addition of that
the test for the people who heard this
miraculous
text
scriptures the words of Allah and then
all of a sudden It stopped for a period
of time. The believers would stay
steadfast on their belief. Those whose
belief was shaky would turn their back
and disbelief once again.
The second time this happened, when the
revelation seized, the prophet was sick
for a couple of days. And then when it
stopped, one of the idol worshippers, an
old female, an old woman came to the
prophetam and said, "We see that your
demon has abandoned you."
And allahel revealed the beautiful surah
And this shows you how the enemies of
Islam are so happy when any interruption
takes place at the flow of Islam.
Seizing the revelation, stopping the
revelation for a period of time, few
days makes them happy as if this had
stopped forever.
any defeat or weakness in the Muslim
ummah, the Muslim body, they have
extreme joy in seeing that because they
are enemies of Islam.
The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
also
grieved
over the death of his companions in the
battle of Mut
when he appointed
three of his companions
his cousin and
may Allah be pleased with them all.
And he sent them
heading 3,000 men to fight the Bzantians
who came with one narration 100,000 men
and another narration 200,000 men
and all three leaders were martyed and
the prophet was in Medina and they were
about
3 weeks travel on camel's back and the
moment it happened Allah revealed to his
Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam
what had happened. And the prophet told
the companions about their fate and what
had happened at the battle. And he was
weeping and you can see in his face
signs of grief and sorrow as mother
Aisha says. And this shows us that it is
not a bad thing to show grief and
sadness and sorrow. When a calamity
strikes, you don't have to smile. You
don't have to laugh. You don't have to
pretend that business as usual and I'm
not at all touched by it. No, this is
not human.
The prophet's actions is a role model.
The prophet
grieved whenever one of his loved ones
died. So when one of his daughters died,
he wept. And we can see how sad he was.
When
Abu Talib his uncle
who took care of him and protected him
for over 40 years
died
and at the same year his beloved wife
Khadijah died. That year was known as
the year of sorrow. Although this is not
an authentic
description of that year in the books of
S because it was challenged by some of
the scholars of hadith but it is a
well-known
description of it in most books of SM
the year of grief
and also when the prophetat wasam
one of his grandchildren died
He wept and his eyes were filled with
tears.
Sad and
were among the companions attending
this. And Sad says, "Oh prophet of
Allah, what is this?" He was shocked
that the prophet wept out of grief and
the prophet explained to him that this
is the mercy of Allah and Allah places
it in whom he ever wishes from the
hearts of his servants and it's a mercy
that only the merciful receive.
Anna Malik also tells us about and we've
said this so many times about his grief
over his son Ibraim
whom he was blessed but with at the end
of his life when he was like 61 62 years
of age
and he had no male offspring of his only
girls
and he was very happy when he was born
but when he died age six some 6 months
some say one year he said these
beautiful words
the heart is saddened and grieved
and the eyes weep and we don't say
anything except that pleases Allah but
by Allah by leaving you and departing
you oh Ibraim we are saddened and
grieved and likewise when his beloved
companion
died in Medina.
Mother Aisha says when the prophet came
to see him and found him dead, he kissed
him between the eyes while he's lying
there dead and the prophet was weeping
and his eyes were filled with tears. He
was the first among the migrants from
Mecca to die in Medina and to be buried
in.
And finally also when
the master and the head of
may Allah be pleased with him when he
died
also
the master of all martyrs Hamza when he
died he sallallahu alaihi wasallam
grieved over them and we can see that
visible on his case. This was how the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
grieved. No wailing, no shouting, only
sorrow and sadness could be detected on
his face and his eyes would water and he
would weep silently. And this shows you
how his heart was was filled with such
emotions
due to the love for his um and for his
loved ones.
