Alhamdulillah.
The prophet sallallah.aihi alaihi
wasallam as well used to motivate people
by mentioning
something that is tangible,
a reward that they could receive in this
world. And this is the same methodology
that was used also in the Quran. Allah
says
if the people if the inhabitants of the
towns and villages were to believe and
fear allahel we would have opened
blessings from the heavens and from the
earth.
So Allah is motivating the people to
believe and to fear Allah trusting
Allahawel to provide for them. Also the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam used
the same way of motivating people. For
example,
every one of us would love to live as
long as he can knowing that death is
inevitable. But the longer you live, the
more incentive you're having.
And everyone wants more provision, more
wealth from allahel. So the prophet
tells us,
whoever wants his lifespan to be
prolonged and his provision to be
increased, he should connect his
kinship.
go and check on your uncle, your
cousins, your siblings and the likes and
have good contact with them. This would
lead
you to have a longer life, a blessed
life in addition to more in your
provision.
Likewise, the prophet said and the
hadith is in Bkari and Muslim as well.
Abu Katada, may Allah be pleased with
him, said that the prophet
motivated the warriors in the battle of
Hunain. And he said anyone who would
kill an enemy,
he would be rewarded to have whatever is
on him, whatever belongings that warrior
had, a shield, a sword, a watch, a
wallet, a jeweler, whatever he's
carrying. Because the norm is that
everything is collected and given to the
Muslim treasury. But this was to
motivate the people.
In addition to that, the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam said that if
an expedition goes to fight in the cause
of Allahawel
and they win and they get the booty of
war
and they collect this and get their
share, they will have twothird of the
reward at the side of allahel.
they will not be rewarded fully. And if
they go and win, but they come back
empty-handed, then they have the whole
reward at the sight of allahel.
Now, this was be this was
about rewards
with
tangible things, things that you could
cash, things you could hold with your
hands. But the prophet sallallaihi
wasallam did not stop here. He used to
motivate people with intangible things.
For example, on the day of
it was a tough cookie to crack. So the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
after besieging
said at nighttime tomorrow morning I
shall give the flag
meaning to lead the troops
to a man that allahel
would open
on his hands
and that fortress and that city and the
walls of would collapse
by the will of allahel through his
leadership. And he's a man that loves
Allah and his messenger and Allah and
his messenger love him back.
So this was
one heck of a motivation because
everybody wanted to be that chosen one.
This is the kind of untangible
motivation.
Nothing that you can cash in now, but
you feel it and you're highly motivated
through it. And in the morning,
everybody of course slept their night
hoping to be the one discussing who is
that one. In the morning, the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam gave it to
Ali Abi Talib, his cousin and his
son-in-law.
Also in the battle of Ma
when the three top leaders died were
martyed
and
the prophet said this to his
congregation with tears coming from his
eyes.
Then he gave the glad tiding by saying,
"And then
after the three were martyed, the flag
was taken by a sword of Allah's swords."
One of Allah's swords. So he called
the sword of Allah. And what an honor
and what a medal this was to him.
also says the prophet said once to us,
"Who among you would wish to go every
single day to Botan or to Ala adjacent
to Medina
and fetch two beautiful
complete camels
without any sin, without severing any
ties of kinship.
What a gain that would be if you can go
and fetch two she camels that are
perfect and full
every single day. You're talking about a
fortune. So the companion said, "Oh
prophet of Allah, by Allah, we loved we
would love to have this." So the prophet
said to go to the masjid every day and
to learn two verses of the Quran that's
it to go to the masjid and to learn two
verses of the Quran is better that for
you than two camels or three camels or
four camels from whatever you like.
So the prophet is giving them something
that is tangible but they could sense
and feel the intangible reward that is
uh far greater than what they were
anticipating.
The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
would motivate his companions
and give them quizzes,
ask them to make them think.
The prophet once said, "Who knows what
kind of a tree that is similar to the
believer firm on the ground with leaves
that never fall to the ground."
Everybody who started giving examples
from the trees they know
may Allah be pleased with him says I was
the youngest among the companions
and subhan Allah I thought it was the
palm tree
but I hesitated to speak up while Abu
Bakr and Omar and all these elders were
around. So I did not say anything. When
I went home, I said to my father, "By
Allah, I knew that it was the palm tree,
but I hesitated to speak." Omar said,
"By Allah, had you spoken, that would
have been better to me than this and
this and this from this world because it
would have meant that his son was the
smart one and that would he he would
have been proud of him."
Likewise, the prophet sallallaihi
wasallam used to encourage and motivate
his companions
in battles. He used to say Abu Katada is
the best of our riders,
our chivalry.
And Salam Aqua is the best of our
soldiers on foot.
Salah Akwar was one of the strongest
athletes
of the companions
and he was one of the best warriors of
the companions to the extent in the
the pledge of
when took place and Iban
was held back by the people of Quraysh
to honor him. The Muslims thought that
they've captured man and killed him
because he was late. So the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam encouraged
the Muslims to pledge to fight till the
death. So they all gave the pledge of
allegiance to the prophetam under the
tree
which was mentioned in the Quran
except Salma.
Salma says, "I was among the first to
give the pledge of allegiance." When the
prophet said, "Where is Salma?" So I
came immediately and gave the pledge of
the allegiance in the first.
And while the others were coming in the
middle, the prophet said, "Where is
Salma?" I said, "Here I am, oh prophet
of Allah. I have already given the
pledge of allegiance." He said, "Give it
again." So I gave it in the middle. And
when everybody was almost done, the
prophet said, "Where is Salma?" I said,
"Here I am, oh prophet of Allah." I gave
the pledge of allegiance in the
beginning and the middle said, "Give it
now." So he gave the pledge of
allegiance three times to emphasize his
importance in the army and how the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
wanted to motivate him.
Suahib Alumi known as Abu Yaha when he
migrated from Mecca to Medina,
he was blocked by the idol worshippers
saying you came to us as a slave
and you were stone broke. Look at you
now rich wanting to take everything and
go to Medina. No, by Allah we will not
let you.
So he said to them, "Listen, look at my
bow and arrows. You know that I'm the
best one of you to
shoot arrows. By Allah, I will shoot
each and every one arrow in one of you.
And then I will fight you with my sword
till I kill as many as I can of you.
If you wish, I'll tell you where I hid
my money and you go take it. Just let me
be and migrate. And if you want to
fight, I'm ready.
The idol worshippers
said, "No, we'll take the bargain." And
he told them where the money was and
they let him go. When he reached Medina,
the prophet met himatam
with these words.
The bargain was successful. Oh,
the bargain was successful. meaning the
exchange
of your wealth
in exchange of your freedom and your
Islam. That was indeed a successful
transaction.
And finally,
when the prophet sallall alaihi wasallam
was
getting ready to go to Tabuk
and he needed money
and the expedition was in summer, people
did not have rides, did not have money
and it was called Jesus,
the army of poverty and hardship.
He encouraged people to give in charity
and to donate in the cause of Allah.
He got little except when came with
a,000
dinar hidden in his sleeves. And you're
talking about a thousand dinar, you're
talking about like 3, four kilograms of
of gold. A lot of money.
So he came and he poured it all in the
lap of the prophetat wasam and the
prophet of courseman was the son-in-law
of the prophet twice sallallahu alaihi
wasallam he married two of his daughters
so the prophet said after he saw this
money he said after today nothing would
harm man meaning no matter what man does
he's forgiven
and Allah would not hold him to account.
This kind of positivity
whether tangible or intangible.
This kind of motivation is what we
Muslims need nowadays instead of
criticizing one another, putting down
one another, trying to polish our image
by discrediting others. This was not the
doing of the prophetatam
and it's definitely not what Islam
prefers or recommends.
