Welcome back.
My dear students, welcome to the 21st
episode in the fourth level of the
prophetic no hadith where inshallah
we're going to study hadith number 18.
In this level, hadith number 18 is
narrated by Abdullahn Abbas. May Allah
be pleased with him and his father whom
we learned about his biography a few
episodes back. He narrated that the
messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace
and blessings and salutations be upon
him cursed men who imitate women and
cursed women who imitate men. And this
is a sound hadith collected by Imam
Bkari.
So let's begin with with defining the
term curse or
because he said
does the messenger of Allah have the
capacity of cursing and what does it
mean to curse and is it permissible for
us to curse as well? Curse in this
context using the word is different than
the curse of insults and being verbally
abusive.
Is an invocation
to ask Allah to expel
somebody out of his mercy
or to cast out somebody out of Allah's
mercy. But when he says
that means Allah the almighty has
already informed his messenger
sallallahu alaihi wasallam that he will
deprive the following individual or
individuals out of his mercy. They are
outcast.
When Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says
Then
so there Allah the almighty said if you
don't avoid ribba after what you heard
from Allah then Allah and his messenger
will declare war against you. What does
it mean to fight against Allah? There
comes the hadith
may Allah curse. Allah has already
cursed us and those who deal with us.
The one who pays, the one who charges,
the witnesses, the clerk, the
accountant, everyone who deals with
interest. Subhan Allah. So it is not
here a supplication. No, it is an
information. The messenger of Allah is
informing us about what Allah has
decided and decreed that he curses the
following individuals. He cursed and he
decided the following people will be uh
deprived from his mercy on the day of
judgment. Outcast out of his rah. Subhan
Allah. Who are they? In this hadith he
spoke about uh genders who try and
attempt to change the gender. Men trying
to pretend to be women. Whether in their
appearance, in the way they talk by
softening their tone so that they would
sound like women, in the way they dress,
they dress like in sometimes lingerie
even in private, you know. Some people
have some sicknesses, you know, or they
have some uh lustful desires. You have
to be careful. So men who know that what
they're doing is to imitate women that
are accursed by the almighty Allah.
Allah has already declared that they are
deprived and expelled from his mercy.
The hadith is informing us about that.
Likewise,
women who pretend to be like men in
their sports, lifting weight, showing
their muscles, uh wearing uh short
shorts and lifting weight or in wristing
or depending their voice, pretending to
be men or undergoing certain operations
uh to be like men, to change their
gender. According to the Islamic Sharia,
all of that is not permissible
because Allah subhana t have cursed
those who pretend to be the opposite
gender.
Allah created man with certain
chromosomes with certain
uh private parts
reproductive system and he created him
for a purpose. He should fulfill this
purpose. He made him in a charge of his
wife then the whole family he should
shoulder his responsibility.
But when a man pretends to be like a
woman in the way he speaks in the way he
acts in the way he dresses in the way he
deals with people deliberately
then he's a cursed according to the
hadith.
What do you mean deliberately?
Some people were raised in a very fancy
lifestyle. So when they speak you think
what is this? Are they spoiled? Yes,
they are spoiled but they don't mean to
behave like girls. They don't want to
act like girls but that should be
corrected. Their behavior, their
attitude should be addressed and they
should understand that men should act
like men. Women should appear, speak and
act like women and so on. When a man
wears a bracelet, a necklace, an
earring, a nose ring, what is this? This
is Zena, a woman. For whom? For women.
The one who wears an earrings is a
woman. A bracelet a woman. A necklace is
a woman. Uh nose piercing if we say it
is lawful according to the practice
which is common in some cultures. If it
is okay for them for women, then men are
not allowed to uh have their noses
pierced and their navl and belly but
none of that is permissible. So
pretending to be the opposite gender is
haram in Islam is forbidden. Pretending
to behave like the opposite gender is
not permissible in Islam. Can a man
wear? Can a man wear a skirt like women,
wear bras, uh any of that? Of course
not. Even if it is just simply a role in
a play, acting in a series, absolutely
forbidden. In privacy between a man and
a woman role playing, that too is not
permissible. And whoever does so
according to the hadith like is there a
difference of opinion here or different
schools of thoughts? No. The hadith is
very straightforward. The hm is very
explicit. Doesn't need any further
explanation. There is no ambiguity in
the hadith. So it is not permissible
also for women to imitate men. And
whoever does so will be cursed by Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala. What is required of
each gender is to act in accordance with
their own nature to be content with the
way that Allah the Almighty has created
them and to adhere to the role for which
Allah the Almighty have created and it
suits them according to the creation of
Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
I'd like to add here brothers and
sisters
some people are born as hermaphrodoid
with the two genitals male and female
genitals. What do we do about that? The
said we wait until they grow up and to
whichever gender they are. The doctors
will determine by testing their hormones
and their chromosomes and their
tendencies. And if they look more like a
male, they have tendency. So they they
will undergo a surgery to be like a full
male or a full female and so on. But a
person who's born as a male should not
change their gender. A person who born
as a female should not mess with their
hormones, mess with the cosmetic
surgeries in order to change their
gender. Besides that, I'd like to
discuss some of the modern days uh forms
of imitation of the opposite gender. Uh
unfortunately, you see some men plucking
their eyebrows or shaving them and
reshaping them. Even though the hadith
of
applies to both men and women but it is
mentioned in the feminine context
because it is more common in women. But
if men do it, it's haram. Then it is
double haram because of the imitation of
women wearing a wig to look like a
female.
Men wearing lipstick and makeup. Subhan
Allah. girls wearing what normally
appears like men's clothes, his soap or
pair of pants and a kofi. Why would a
woman wear a kofi? You know
uh whether this is happening in the real
life or a role playing in a play in a
show in you know or to make people laugh
that is not permissible.
Obviously
the worst form of imitation is
undergoing
surgery in order to change one's gender
and that is not permissible whatsoever
in Islam. And with regards to the
matters that men and women have in
common they may be divided into three
categories. The first category is
clothing.
some clothing which are worn by men and
women unex

or a and they're wearing this at home.
No problem. Okay. Men and women wear
socks, wear gloves or uh uh scarves
around their neck, no problem. Coats in
winter which is unex.
The second category is related to the
things which are only for men to wear.
And if women were to wear it, it will be
an imitation and that is haram. And the
third is what is normally designed for
women to wear, women's clothes. And if a
man was to wear then he is committing a
sin, a major sin, okay? including
makeup, lipstick, nail polish
and as I mentioned before women's outfit
that is not permissible for women for
men to wear. What is the wisdom behind
the prohibition? The wisdom number one,
Allah created me as a man. So I should
behave like a man and I should fulfill
my role in this life as a man. And when
my sister is created as a girl, she
should think about what is she supposed
to do to be a Muslim woman, a Muslim
wife, a Muslim daughter, a Muslim
mother, right? Trying to play the role
of others would lead to disturbance in
the society. Societies in which
homosexuality has become uh on the rise.
Their population is decreasing and they
are warning and they're afraid that in
in a matter of one decade or so they
would run out of newborn
and it is expected. So messing up with
the creation of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala in any form or shape is
absolutely forbidden brothers and
sisters. So we learned that it is not
permissible for men to imitate women in
anything or for women to imitate men in
anything. Clothing, speech, acting,
behaving, uh makeup, none of that is
permissible. The imitation of the
opposite gender uh in any form or shape
is not to be tolerated in Islam because
it is perceived as a major sin. How do
we know? Because Allah used the word
which is to expel from Allah's mercy.
Well, in this case, can we curse a
particular person whom we think that
he's behaving like a girl? No, you
can't. Why not? Because it is forbidden
to curse a specific person. You curse
the act. Can you imagine that it is not
permissible to curse a specific kafir?
Why not? Because you never know. maybe
he will accept Islam and will become a
believer and will become even better
than you. So in Islam we don't curse
this specific individuals. We curse the
act itself and those who do it but we
don't point fingers to a specific person
and said this person is a curse and
Allah knows best. Then next time
