and welcome back.
My dear students, welcome to the 22nd
session in the fourth level of the
prophetic nobel hadith. And today
inshallah we're going to study together
hadith number 19 which is narrated by
the great companion
Omar K. May Allah be pleased with him
and his father. Narrated that the
messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam may the greatest peace and
salutations be upon him said
a woman was punished for a cat
that she detained until it died and she
entered hellfire because of that. She
did not feed it nor give it anything to
drink when she detained it and she did
not leave it to eat from the vermin of
the earth. Subhan Allah. So the
messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam is informing us about something
is perceived as we haven't seen
hellfire. We didn't witness this
incident but the almighty Allah informed
his messenger sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. How heinous
was such sin? To imprison an animal,
to detain an animal until it dies out of
hunger. What about those who detain and
starve human beings to death? They are
the worst of the creation of the
almighty Allah. He said sallallahu
alaihi wasallam she imprisoned, she kept
the cat detained.
She neither fed it nor give it water to
drink nor let it go to eat from the
vermin of the earth or from the grass or
the trash. So she determined to detain
the cat until she died.
And Sam
wasallam is warning us in this hadith
against is being cruel to any of Allah's
creation
even if they're just animals.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
informed us that he has made the entire
earth subservient to us
so that we become subservient to him. We
studied in a hadith that the messenger
of Allah
said
indeed Allah has ordained
kindness and gentleness upon us towards
everything and everyone human beings
Muslims and non-Muslims friends and
enemies animals
even at the time of killing use a
merciful and a swift way. So it is not
permissible in Islam to kill somebody
who is
sentenced to the capital punishment with
electric chair because it is very
painful or with poison because it is
very painful.
In this case, Islam prescribed a sword
which makes it swift and quick. He said
even when you come to slaughter an
animal you must sharpen your blade and
comfort your animal and so on. In this
hadith brothers and sisters the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam tells us
about a woman who detained a cat
somewhere in her home in a pin whatever
until this cat died out of starvation
out of hunger and thirst.
What happened to her?
She entered the hellfire. She deserved
to enter hellfire regardless whether she
was a believer or not, whether she was
praying or not. But because of her
cruelty towards the kitten, she deserved
to enter hellfire. So the hadith warns
of severe punishment for those who harm
animals and obviously harm humans and
cats are beautiful creation of Allah
subhana tala and they are pure and
said to his companions
so it is permissible for a cat or a
kitten to enter the masid and wander
around because it is clean. Subhan Allah
versus dogs. Of course,
we learn
from this hadith, my dear students, that
what is required for a person to watch
out for and be a beware of minor sins
because
you know minor sins when they accumulate
they become major sin.
If the person does this persistently, it
amounts to the level of becoming a major
sin. Like what happened? Not giving food
to the cat once, twice, several days
until it died. With regards to every
living creature, if a human harms it, he
is committing a sin. And if he shows
compassion, he will be rewarded. The
prophet sallall.aii wasallam said,
feeding every living creature, living
creature, you'll be rewarded.
A man and another hadith, a woman who
have not done any good deed in their
lives, they deserve to enter heaven
because of giving water to a dog
to save and to spare the life of a
living creature. Even though as Muslims
we don't touch dogs, we don't keep dogs
at home as pets, it is not permissible,
but when it comes to the matter of being
merciful, we feed the animals. We do
whatever it takes to save their lives
and so on. Thirdly, we learned that it
is permissible to keep cats in our homes
because of the hadith I mentioned
earlier
and also because the messenger of Allah
permitted them to enter the masid and
also because the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam said that
they are pure and because also in this
hadith the messenger of Allah did not
address that the woman entered hellfire
or was punished because of keeping the
cat at home. No, but because of starving
the cat until it died.
Provided you look after the pet. Let it
be a bird, let it be fish in a bound,
let it be um a kitten. Subhan Allah.
Some people love to keep rabbits as
pets. No problem.
used to have a brother,
younger brother. The prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam used to meet him and
play with him and fun with him and he
say, "Hey Abu, what happened to your
bird?" The
so he did not object to him keeping a
bird in a cage. It is permissible as
long as you're feeding the bird, giving
water to the bird or the pet in general
and so on. The the nuay was the name of
paru
which Anna's younger brother used to
keep but he said sallallahu alaihi
wasallam as long as you take care of it.
Okay.
May Allah have mercy on him. Said,
"Whoever owns an animal is obliged to
take care of it and spend on it,
whatever it needs, food, water,
treatment, and so on. There was an
incident when the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam entered into a garden
that belonged to one of Al- Ansar
and the camel ran towards the prophet
sallall.aii wasallam and it started
weeping like a child. The camel wept. So
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
started calming down the camel tapping
on the neck of the camel until it calmed
down. Then he turned around and said,
"Who's the owner of this camel?" A young
man of Alansa said, "It belongs to me."
He said, "The camel is complaining to me
that you don't feed it properly and
meanwhile you burden it with overweight
that you load on its back." Fear Allah
concerning those cattle. Fear Allah. So
also feeding the cattle, feeding the
camels, feeding the cats a means of
worship. You will be rewarded for that
indeed. But some people go beyond limits
where they spend a lot of money on such
cattle or the pit or the cat or the uh
dog in order to book a plane ticket for
them because they're going on a
vacation. three $4 thousand dollars to
take the cat with them. Well, I can
assure you that is not permissible and
that is extravagance.
Too much money is wasted on pets
unnecessarily
because there are millions of human
beings who are dying literally dying out
of hunger. Don't you think that it will
be wiser and better to direct this money
towards feeding the human beings who
don't have anything to eat? We also
learn from this hadith, my dear brothers
and sisters, that it is absolutely
forbidden to torment any animal whether
cats or otherwise. And sallallahu alaihi
wasallam forbade burning ants
and he said
It is not permissible to use fire to
hurt even insects. No one is allowed to
use father fire to punish or to kill or
to torture. Only Allah the lord of fire
is allowed to use it. But we so branding
the animals with fire is not permissible
as well. It is prohibited to mutilate
animals. It is prohibited to take
animals uh or birds as a target
shooting archery in the shooting range.
So a a moving and mobile target and they
they shoot at it absolutely forbidden.
when he saw some people doing so he said
whoever did this the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam said
they are cursed by Allah subhana wa
ta'ala be careful not because they're
animals or birds or insects that it is
you're free to do whatever you want to
do with them it is prohibited also to
curse animals what yep It is prohibited
to curse animals. In one of the
journeys,
a woman was traveling along with a
caravan in which the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam was leading and he heard
this ansari woman uh she cursed her she
camel because she was kind of slow. So
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
said unload it and let it go for it is
cursed.
It shouldn't accompany us. And that was
a means of punishing the woman and
teaching the ummah a lesson that you
should not even curse animals. May Allah
subhana wa ta'ala guide us to what is
best. The hadith brothers and sisters
highlights how serious the issue of sin
is. Even if the sin looks as a minor sin
but persisting in minor sins turn them
into major sins. Finally, the hadith
indicates that prisoners should be taken
care of and treated with kindness. The
Quran says
[Music]
even the prisoners of war, we feed them
from whatever we eat. This is our pure
Islamic and Quranic teaching. It is
absolutely forbidden to incite animals
to fight against each other like the
roosters and like the bulls. This is
absolutely forbidden and not
permissible. May Allah guide us to what
is best. Until next time.
