and welcome back my dear students.
Today is the 23rd edition in the fourth
level of the prophetic nobel hadith and
inshallah we're going to study together
hadith number 20. The 20th hadith we're
going to study it in this session and in
the following session as well. It will
be divided between the last two
sessions. So what is the hadith anyway?
The hadith is a beautiful hadith agreed
upon its authenticity and it's going to
present a solution to many problems in
our lives. And the narrator of the
hadith is a great companion an Malik may
Allah be pleased with him who narrated
that the messenger of Allah may Allah's
peace and blessings be upon him saidnone
of you should wish for death because of
some harm that befolds him. If he must
do that, then let him say, "Oh Allah,
cause me to live so long as living is
better for me and cause me to die when
death is better for me." The hadith is
agreed upon its authenticity
and we have learned about an Malik
before that he's one of the great
companions of the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam. He happened to serve
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
for a whole decade. From the day that he
arrived to Medina, his mother uh brought
him to the messenger of Allah sallallahu
alaihi wasallam in order to serve him.
He was so lucky, one of the luckiest
companions ever. He served the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam for 10 years.
Which means he must have learned a huge
volume of knowledge from the messenger
of Allah and he was blessed because the
messenger of Allah peace be upon him
prayed for him
blessings. So you know that Anna Malik
died in Basra on the year 93
after the migration. He was over 100
years old and he had from his children
and grand and grandchildren over 130.
Mashallah you have seen from his line
130 family members between children and
grandchildren.
Allah blessed him with a garden that
used to produce not only seasonal but
even offseason twice a year because of
the blessings of the supplication of the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. When
the messenger of Allah died, Ana Malik
traveled to Damascus and from there he
traveled to Basra in Iraq currently and
he lived there until he died and he was
the last one of the Sahaba to die in
Basra on the year 93 after the migration
of the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. May Allah be pleased with Anna
Malik and the rest of the companions of
the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. When the messenger of Allah
said,
this is a clear prohibition.
It is haram to say, "Oh Allah, take me
out of this duny. Oh Allah, I wish to
die. Oh Allah, I hate this life. I want
to die. I want to die." We hear this a
lot. We hear it more from non-Muslims,
Westerners.
It is very ironic.
The
greatest number of suicide is in the
countries where they don't believe in
God.
Where the lifestyle is supposed to be
the highest.
Subhan Allah. They have all the means of
happiness but they're not happy. They
take their lives to the extent that it
is very common. Why? They have all the
means of happiness, but they don't have
Allah in their lives. As for us as
Muslims, we understand that whenever
we're being tested and sometimes a test
is kind of severe, is kind of tough,
sickness, poverty,
jail, unjust uh uh uh without
justification,
uh being oppressed, being persecuted,
hunger, hardship,
uh oppression.
So some people would say I wish to die.
Don't say that it is haram to long for
death but I cannot take it anymore.
There are means which will help you to
take it and even convert the test and
the trial into a pleasure.
Really? Of course. When the messenger of
Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam
specifically said
Why do people long for death? Does
anyone long for death when he's
partying, when he's happy, when he's uh
enjoying his life, when he's making
money, when he's lying down on a
comfortable bed? No. There must be a
problem.
Psychological, psychiatric, financial,
physical, sickness, anything. Right? As
we mentioned earlier, a believer must
understand that whenever we go through a
hardship, it is inevitable for every
human being, believers and non-believers
to experience some hardship, to be
tested, to be tried in this life. That
is because the almighty Allah made this
life a home of tests and trials.
The Almighty said in
there you find that Allah is swearing by
various means of oath. The lamb, the
noon, the wow to confirm most certainly
indeed, most definitely we the royal, we
we shall try you and test you with
various means of tests and trials.
Okay. All those tests and trials, loss
of loved ones, loss of lives, of
poverty, sickness, you name it, and
fear. He said,
"Yet glad give glad tidings." Glad
tidings is delivered to whom to those
who will endure the tests and the
calamities patiently. Those who will
perceive the hardship as there is a
wisdom behind it.
And two things will happen as a result
of being tested. The first is
Allah will remit some of my magnitude
volume of of sins. Subhan Allah. Yes
indeed. In the hadith, the messenger of
Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings
be upon him said, "No hardship, pain,
worry, grief,
harm or distress befalls the Muslim,
even a thorn
pricking his skin. But Allah will
experiate some of his sins thereby."
It's a sound hadith agreed upon its
authenticity.
Do you know that the messenger of Allah
said
Allah will continue to test and try one
of his servants until he will die with
no sins. He will meet Allah pure and
sinless. In this case, no problem. When
the tests and trials take place, you
don't feel bad because you know they
happen for a reason. I have lot of sins.
Let Allah purify me from some of my sins
or all.
Wait a minute. If this is the case, then
we should invoke Allah be to be tested
and tried. Absolutely not.
We rather should ask Allah for ask Allah
to be protected against tests and trials
to be pardoned to be safe and sound.
There are many supplications in this
regard. So we don't like to be tested.
We don't ask Allah to try us to try our
patience. No, we don't. Rather we ask
Allah for the opposite. We say
Every morning we keep asking Allah
several times likewise in the evening to
protect us to protect our faculties of
senses to protect our family members,
our children. We even say
in the name of Allah with whose name
nothing harms in the heavens or on the
earth and he's all here all knowing why
in order to be protected so we don't ask
for the trouble but if we are destined
to attest a trial or a hardship we know
what to do what to do patience
we all belong to Allah and unto We shall
return. We recite this supplication and
furthermore invocation. Oh Allah, reward
me for my calamity and give me better
than what I lost. If you have lost
something, indeed Allah will give you
better.
We say two great things will happen as a
result of being tested as a believer.
The first is remitting some of our sins
or even all. The second is earning a
reward.
That is because the almighty Allah
promised
in give glad tidings to the patient
ones.
Those whom whenever they are afflicted
with the calamity they say we all belong
to Allah and unto him who shall return.
And
in surah chapter number 39 the 10th
verse the almighty Allah declared
indeed the patient ones shall receive
their word on the day of judgment
without limit without measure
unaccounted for take as much word why
for their patience. So when a person is
being tested and he is a believer and he
endures the test patiently and he
recites the supplications that is indeed
best for him or her. Now I'd like to
discuss in the remaining couple minutes
the negative consequences of wishing for
death. Number one, it's a sign of being
unhappy with Allah which will result in
panicking
and it will result in uh despair,
depression, suicide thoughts. A person
should be happy with Allah's decree
knowing that it's all from Allah and
whatever is from Allah, it is always
good for me. It weakens a person and it
leads to the loss of the ability of
finding a solution. It leads to apathy
and despair. That's terrible. And
despair is forbidden in Islam. It is
ignorance and folly for a person who
doesn't know that what happened to him
happens for a wisdom and for a reason
and it will be a means of execution for
their sins have lost a lot. Also
brothers and sisters, unfortunately
death puts an end to the righteous deeds
which we keep earning as a result of
praying and fasting and making zik and
even being tested and remitting some of
our sins and earning a magnitude of
reward to be continued inshallah next
time. Until then,
