and welcome back.
My dear students, welcome to the 24th
edition in the fourth level of the
prophetic nobel a hadith.
And if you remember, we were studying
hadith number 20 which is narrated by an
Malik in which he said that the
messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam forbade wishing for death. He
said, peace be upon him, none of you
should wish for death simply because of
a harm that befalls him. And if he must
do so, then he should say, "Oh Allah,
make me live so long as life is good for
me and cause me to die whenever death is
good for me." So, we spoke about the
general meaning of the hadith and the
negative uh feedback of wishing and
longing for death and so on. Today
inshallah we'll continue with the hadith
and the the explanation and also the
lessons that we learn from the hadith
and how to go about uh conflicts how to
go about afflictions and about
experiencing harm especially if the
person cannot afford uh such harm and so
on. But before that would like to learn
what is the wisdom behind the
prohibition of wishing for death.
There is an incident in which Al Abbas,
Prophet Muhammad's uncle was really
sick. So the messenger of Allah peace be
upon him visited him and he heard him
wishing for death. So the messenger of
Allah peace be upon him said to him,
"Yeahbbas,
oh Abbass, my uncle, the messenger, the
uncle of the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam, do not wish
for death. Four, if you are a doer of
good, a doer of good deeds, you will be
able to do more as long as you're alive.
And that indeed is good for you. But if
you have been doing bad, life still good
for you because at least you would have
a chance to repent.
Giving you respite in the hope that you
may repent is better for you. So do not
wish for death.
And the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam repeated that in other
situations where he said
when the person is in a situation where
he feels he cannot afford the test and
he says oh Allah cause me to die. The
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said
life is always good for the believer.
Why? Either the believer was
alhamdulillah a good doer. He's praying
he's fasting. He's reading Quran. and
he's helping people. You know the meter
is counting good deeds for you. That is
indeed good for you. Why do you want to
stop it while the messenger of Allah
said
once we die even Muslims even good doers
our good deeds the meter which counts
our good deeds will stop because our
good deeds and our actions have stopped.
Except obviously if you left a good
child, a righteous child to pray for you
or you've invested in an act of a
continuous charity or left a knowledge
that would uh benefit people even after
your death and so on. But ordinary
people who could not afford any of the
above when they die it's over. No more
good deeds. So long as you are alive
you're earning good deeds. The hadith
ofah when he said two companions
accepted Islam on the same day before
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
then he spoke in favor of one of them.
He said he was much more active than his
companion in worship. He even attended
one of the battles and he died as a
shahid. Then the other person lived
after him for one complete year and he
died a normal death. So he says I saw in
he said I saw in my dream both
companions.
I was standing with him in front of the
gate of heaven and an angel a god from
heaven came out and he called upon the
person who died later who is less active
in worship. He wasn't a shahid and he
said come with me and he escorted him to
heaven. Later on he came and he took and
he escorted the shahid to heaven. When
he woke up, when he shared the dream
with the companions, everyone was
puzzled because they assumed the shahit
should enter heaven first. They assumed
that the person who is known among uh
his companions as much more active in
worship deserves to enter heaven first.
When the messenger of Allah came to know
about it, he said, "Why are you amazed?"
They told him, he said, "Didn't the one
who outlived the Shahid, who lived after
his companion for one year, witness
another Ramadan that the Shahid died and
he didn't get to witness?" Yani, the
other person who was delayed for one
year, fasted another Ramadan and he
prayed several thousand sag, you know,
five daily prayers every said, "Yes,
yes, yes, yes." He said by Allah the one
who died later is in a higher place in
heaven and the gap between them is wider
than the gap between the heavens and the
earth. Every moment in our lives count
brothers and sisters in the hadith the
messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam said subhan allah
once
Allah will plant for you a day palm tree
in heaven.
Can you imagine how many times you will
say it in one minute
h
mashallah
if subhan allah
I can say it couple times in a second
then that means I can say it more than
100 times in one minute.
So how many day palm trees Allah will
plant for me in heaven. how big my
property will be if I keep my tongue
busy with the remembrance of Allah when
I die
I'm not able to make even some of the
righteous people when they died
some people saw them in their dreams and
they said what do you wish for he said
to say subhan allah once or to pray one
sag because we're not able to when life
comes to end no more in the hadith the
messenger of Allah peace be upon him
said when he was asked about who is the
best of people before Allah. He said the
one who lives a long life while doing
good deeds. On the contrary, he was
asked who is the worst of people before
Allah. He said the one who lives a long
life while doing bad deeds. May Allah
protect us against that. Two many
beautiful lessons we learn from this
hadith. My dear students, the first is
the hadith is indicative of the virtue
of patience.
which is something that
which is well known to all Muslims that
it has a great reward to the extent that
the Almighty Allah says
most certainly those who endure
calamities patiently shall receive their
word on the day of judgment without
limit. Also in surah bakar verse number
155 the almighty Allah said what it
means and we will surely test you with
something of fear and hunger and loss of
wealth and lives and fruits but give
glad tidings to the patient ones. May
Allah make us among them. And last
session we learned that we don't long
for tests and trials. We don't pray to
be tested and tried. We ask Allah for
pardon. But in case you're tested, you
know that it is good for you and you
know how to take advantage of the test
and the trial. The words of the
messenger of Allah sallall.aii wasallam
when he said none of you shall wish for
death because of some harm that befalls
him indicates that if
it is not because of some worldly harm
it may be permitted. Well, there is a
hadith that if a person if a person
is afraid that he will be tested in his
dean and religious commitment, he may
ask Allah to take him unto him before he
would change
before I will be tested in my religion
or I change my faith and religion. So
also in the hadith the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam said that if
the person cannot take it anymore he
should say Allah
oh Allah keep me alive let me live so
long as life is good for me because
situations could change could be much
better afterward. Then 20 years later,
you share with your children and
grandchildren that at one day you used
to go to sleep starving. You didn't have
a roof on top of you. Look at you now.
Everyone is driving a very luxurious car
and you have a multi-million dollar
business. And and and what happened? I
was full when I was young. I was wishing
for death. Alhamdulillah, Allah did not
fulfill my wish. or you get to memorize
the entire Quran and you get to be rich
and build a masid, build an orphanage.
So when you compare your situation now
to a few years back, you say,
"Alhamdulillah, I'm in a much better
situation. I'm glad Allah did not accept
my earlier dua and fulfill and I'm glad
that Allah did not fulfill my earlier
wish." So
funny
and take me unto you if you know in the
knowledge of unseen in your knowledge
that death indeed is good for me so I'm
ready to go that's fair enough. The
hadith also brothers and sisters
contains sound prophetic advice to
delegate one's affairs to Allah to put
your trust in Allah. Let Allah handle
your conditions for a person of us
doesn't know the unseen doesn't know
what will happen to him or her in the
future. Subhan Allah. The almighty Allah
informed us in saying none in the
heavens and the earth knows the unseen
except Allah.
Chapter number 27 verse number 65.
And obviously it towards the end of
surahman chapter number 31 last verse
verse number 34.
Look no one knows what is going to
happen to him or her tomorrow. What they
will earn tomorrow. Wait. Maybe it is
better for you
and no soul knows where he or she will
expire. In any case, we'll only die
whenever it is time for us to die. But
let's follow the advices of the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam on not
longing for death, not wishing for death
except if it is something related to the
dean and you're afraid that you may
alter or change. Otherwise, let's ask
Allah for the following supplication. Oh
Allah, grant me a good life, a long life
while doing good deeds. That is
definitely best. Thank you so much, my
dear students, for following up. And may
Allah teach us what we don't know. Guide
us to what is best.
Till next time.
