hey there Dr will Lee I am in the
Mediterranean in Tuscany in Italy and uh
walking through a garden and I wanted to
share with you when I'm actually finding
I tried to do this earlier but uh and I
did a little bit of it on Instagram but
then my phone overheated so I had to
stop but I'm going to do it again uh now
and uh see if you guys want to join me
on a little garden tour in Tuscany first
of all I got to show you where I'm at
and you can kind of see just how
gorgeous it is out here this is what you
call La Dolce Vita the beautiful sweet
life
and so not surprisingly the stuff that
grows here is absolutely amazing let's
take a look at um what's in the garden I
want to show you what etchy grows here
this is a
fragila strawberry plant look at this
sun ripened strawberry this is what
people eat here what's in a strawberry
allergic acid electric acid is a
bioactive it's good for your
circulations it's been shown to actually
improve your circulation
and we've done research uh in the lab to
show that I can actually starve cancer
by cutting off its blood supply
um you know there's this myth that
fruits have too much sugar and you
should stay away from that bunk
strawberries are sweet I love them but
actually it's kind of calories that are
good calories
and the bioactives in them are actually
net net good for your health let's go
and look at some other things I want to
show you here all right
hang on a second

this out
look at this eggplant
just hanging there's like heavy on a
plant so there's this myth out there
that eggplants actually belong to the
nightshade family and are toxic stay
away from them
bunk don't listen to that urban legend
eggplants actually have lots of good
antioxidant bioactives protects your DNA
good for your health and actually
absolutely delicious as well
they eat them into lean so many
different ways now let's go take a look
at um
couple of other things uh all right into
the grocery store and you go to the
produce section and you see
um
uh the the
um
different kinds of veggies
uh check it out
look at this
you've seen this is actually
um
vegetable
who can recognize what this is look at
those beautiful uh
pink purple
stems you can actually use this in a
salad but you can also
saute them the ribs are too stiff just
cut them out saute it with a little
extra virgin olive oil a little garlic
and absolutely delicious
okay what else do we have here I wanted
to show you guys all right
um
zucchini so zucchini are made they grow
there's a flower that comes with the
zucchini and guess what that flour is
edible and in Italy they stuff the flour
zucchini flowers here here's one right
here
here's the flower
this one doesn't actually have a
zucchini attached to it but you soak
these in water the petals come off and
you can stuff this with ricotta cheese
um and uh all kinds of other goodies our
culture would mix with a little anchovy
absolutely delicious let me show you one
that actually has
the
um
zucchini attached to it there it is
right here the zucchini and the flour
okay
so this is also growing here in Italy oh
what's what's in the flour something
called spinasterol it's antioxidant
protects your DNA Health defense systems
and also protects your
um
uh DNA and it helps for regeneration
so
another beautiful thing oh I saw
something back here I wanted to show you
guys I'm coming over here
here you guys are seeing what I'm seeing
look at this
leaks
very common in Mediterranean cooking
these are actually members of the onion
and garlic family allium uh absolutely
delicious
dialyl sulfide is what it has
good for your metabolism
and a great antioxidant as well not
surprisingly the food here is a really
really good uh delicious The Taste is uh
exceptional I wanted to show you one
more thing that I found well okay
we can't not look at this
tomatoes when you are in Italy this is
Sun ripening tomatoes
what's in a tomato Tomatoes actually
contain lycopene lycopene is a natural
bioactive it's been studied I've done
the research as well that can actually
improve your circulation cut off the
blood supply to prostate cancer lowers
the risk of prostate cancer and breast
cancer and lycopene likes to dissolve in
oil
and fat which is why if you want to
really get a lot into your bloodstream
you cook a tomato in extra virgin olive
oil all right then it gets you like if
you can get in your bloodstream and New
Order does it go in your bloodstream it
likes to dissolve in fat body fat
and what it does there is that you
fights harmful body fat so it improves
your metabolism as well
um uh let's see what else can I show you
there's so many little things in a
garden here

where should we go
by the way this was radicchio
this these uh this beautiful
stemmed plant that I was showing you
earlier
oh I know let's go down and take a look
at some herbs
that's what I wanted to show you
um oh before we go to the herbs I found
this earlier I scattered this out for
you guys look at these beautiful guys
these little tiny spicy peppers
okay they're pointing up
these guys have capsaicin
capsaicin actually lights up your tongue
it's a natural chemical that binds to a
receptor in your tongue kind of like a
lock and a key
the key is actually in the pepper and
the receptor the lock is in your tongue
when that key gets in that lock turns it
on you get The Zing that actually text
messages your brain to release a hormone
okay nor epinephrine and no adrenaline
and what that does is that goes down
your neck and activates your brown fat
and when your brown fat gets turned on
by
capsaicin in Chili Peppers
what does it do it triggers a fat
burning response called thermogenesis
actually cools your body off at the same
time because that brain signal the
hormone actually causes your
um blood vessels to dilate cause you to
sweat so you actually lose heat which is
why you can actually eat hot peppers in
hot weather as a way of cooling off it's
kind of a cool little side effect but
the other thing it does is it turns on
thermogenesis and your brown fat fires
up and burns down harmful white fats
especially the fat that's inside your
gut called visceral fat so that's what's
little in that little uh pepper and

how about this you know these guys know
what this is look at these tiny little
wispy things this is fennel
finocchio and uh there's a big bulb
underneath there
absolutely delicious use the
Mediterranean cooking you can saute it
you can stew it
there's a lot of things you can do with
fennel great recipes you can check them
out online
but it actually has uh
chlorogenic acid and other
bioactives that light up your body's
Health defenses now just touching this

and smelling it you get this nice little
kind of anisey Licorice smell I love
that
um beautiful flavor
uh okay one more thing here
lemon thyme
look at this lemon thyme
now time has a natural bioactive called

finding Adventures looking at where the
Mediterranean is right so I like to eat
healthy I call it Mediterranean eating
it's not a diet it's a style of eating
where I go around looking at the stuff
that's been used in traditional
Mediterranean and Asian Cuisines and I
identify what are the healthy aspects in
them and I try to understand what does
it do to my body when I eat those
ingredients that's really food as
medicine but I love my food in order to
love my health I don't try to do
anything else other than enjoy what I'm
eating okay so more when I discover more
and I will share it with you guys
