women who just drank water lost 17 times
more weight they lost visceral fat they
had better insulin performance they had
less insulin resistance they had more
stable blood glucose I'm a big coffee
drinker in the morning especially and so
my own habit is that I'll get up and
I'll make myself a couple of
espresso not espresso but espresso es P
SSO because I when I did a gap year
before I went to medical school I spent
time in Italy and I spent time in Greece
and there's a lot of coffee that's drank
there and I got used to that habit and
of course then when I went to medical
school I often drink coffee to just to
stay awake and to stay alert now
espresso uh you can do in a lot of
different ways I like to make it in uh
beti which is this a metal container and
you grind coffee really fine um medium
roast actually gives you the most
bioactives all right so you I like the
taste of dark roast coffee but I know
that Medium roast uh actually has the
highest levels of chlorogenic acid
chlorogenic acid is good for the
metabolism good for the circulation
protects my stem cells good for my gut
microbiome as antioxidant and it
actually boosts my immunity as well and
so this is something that I want in my
body the first thing I put into my mouth
all right boom a cup of espresso um
medium roast actually has has the
highest levels of chlorogenic acid I
brew it myself if you can get organic
beans to grind it's always better to
grind it rather than have a pre ground
I'm talking about optimal right so
organic actually is always going to have
higher levels of polyphenol like
chlorogenic acid now why does that
happen well it turns out that when
plants are growing many of the
polyphenols like chlorogenic acid they
actually are formed by the plant as a
defense mechanism to heal themselves
what do I mean why does a plant heal
themselves well think about it when you
when you're a coffee plant okay and
growing uh and you're in you're in a
completely natural state all right no
pesticides you're surrounded by bugs
little bugs flying around they're going
to nibble on the leaves and nibble on
the stems and those are little micro
injuries to the plant so the plant makes
polyphenols to heal itself all right and
and when we actually eat those
polyphenols it those polyphenols those
plant healing polyphenols help to heal
our body and improve our health as well
so we get the benefit and this is the
reason organic is better because what do
you think happens when you spray um
pesticides on a plant fewer bugs are
around all right fewer bugs less
nibbling less need to create that
healing level of the polyphenols right
so uh conventionally grown with
pesticide uh plants will always actually
have lower levels of polyphenols than
ones that are grown organically so
that's actually one of the reasons I
like to have organic uh coffee all right
espresso ground really fine extracts a
lot of the chlorogenic acid off remember
I told you medium roast is has got more
chlorogenic acid than dark roast so this
is where the details can actually matter
I said I was going to talk about
optimizing my health and so I think
about these things now when I actually
have espresso notice I didn't say I have
a cafe olle or a cappuccino although I
actually like the taste of both but I
like to actually have my uh espresso in
the morning uh which does not break my
fast and I'm going to uh even sip it
while I'm actually checking my email or
reading a book because if you don't add
Dairy to the coffee it doesn't actually
constitute breaking your fast and
obviously don't add sugar as well into
your coffee so you actually break your
fast all right so I'll have a cup or two
a single or double espresso uh and by
the way uh some of you might be
interested in knowing the origin of
espresso I like to cook I like to spend
time in the kitchen so I have all this
knowledge and I'm really passionate
about food and what goes on in the
kitchen so here's a little story for you
um The Story Goes that espresso was
invented in it in Italy in the early
1900s and there were two businessmen in
Milan Italy a guy named Luigi bazer and
desid
desiderio pavoni uh they were the
inventors that figured out how to make
coffee quickly by uh pushing steam
through the coffee grounds all right and
then these two uh Luigi and desiderio
actually figured out how to invent a
machine that could do that at scale
meaning you could do it a lot of make a
lot of the coffee make it quickly and
make lots of cups of coffee that way
it's forcing through groundup coffee
grinds all right and they named the
process um espresso because espresso was
uh meant in Italian Speedy so this is a
speedy way to make a cup of coffee
espresso means fast and what they did is
they actually introduced espresso in the
1906 Milan fair in Italy and it was a
hit and you know that was all she wrote
that's was then it became in the history
books we all had espresso and then it
spread everywhere now remember I told
you I don't add cream or dairy to my
coffee in the morning because I for
Optimal Health because I know that if
you add dairy uh milk so that's cow fat
or cream all right the dairy fat
actually forms little tiny soap bubbles
we call them my cells this is what we
actually call them in m i c l l s my
cells are little tiny soap bubbles of
fat that form and those little soap
bubbles trap the chlorogenic acid it
traps the polyphenols so when you're
actually drinking the coffee all right
um uh the soap bubbles will actually
tumble down through your esophagus in
your stomach and go down below and
they've trapped the polyphenol so you
don't get to absorb most of those
polyphenols all right so when you don't
actually have dairy fat and for example
you could if you chose to use almond
milk or a nutmilk or a soy milk I don't
I like my espresso straight because
otherwise it wouldn't be espresso all
right um but I I don't put dairy milk or
milk in it at all and that way I get as
many polyphenols as possible now as I
told you I I can drink a cup of coffee
after I get ready uh and read a book or
check my emails or go outside for a
quick wall or walk or review my day
schedule in my head that's another thing
that I often do um I like to be
organized it makes me less stressed that
way I able to uh approach the day in a
calmer state of mind right so the key
thing if you want to optimize your
health is to start the day out without
being super super stressed out being a
little organized helps me actually lower
my stress levels the coffee picks up my
brain power all right my attention span
my ability to perform but then I take a
moment all right to uh kind of prepare
myself by checking my schedule green tea
here it is again the ubiquitous green
tea when it comes to health what's in
green tea it's got a polyphenol a
cattigan called
egcg Epi Gallow kaken 3 Galley egcg all
right and you know what egcg does it
does a lot of things okay but in this
case h for burning down fat it activates
Brown fat
thermogenesis so let me explain this to
you green tea activates Brown fat
thermogenesis and brown fat is kind of
special kind of fat in your body it's
good fat it's not wiggly jiggly it's not
under your arms it's not under your chin
it's not your muffin top brown fat is
wayer thin and it's plastered around
your neck a little bit behind your
breast bone between your shoulder blades
a little bit in your belly and when
Brown fat is activated and green tea
will activate the egcu will activate the
brown fat what that does is it fires up
kind of like a space heater all right
and when it fires up a space heater it's
going to create require energy to create
Heat thermogen is creating heat all
right and in order to create that heat
that energy that brown fat uses is drawn
from excess body fat like visceral fat
all right so this is actually a way to
turn on good fat to burn down bad fat
and it's a way of actually lowering
overall excess harmful body fat in your
body green tea can actually do this the
another analogy that I often give for a
brown fat what it does
thermogenesis if you have a range in
your kitchen right uh and a gas range
what do you do when you want to heat up
a pot of water or cook some soup go to
the range you turn on the the the the uh
the dial and you go click click click
click whoosh right that's what happens
now you can put the PT on you can boil
it now when you go click click click
whoosh you're actually drawing fuel gas
from your gas line maybe a maybe a a gas
tank by the side of your house or maybe
Town gas into that burner and then and
then when you ignite it whoosh now you
got that flame that's exactly like what
brown fat actually does and it's burning
down the fuel from your excess white fat
okay that's bad fat good fat versus bad
fat green tea can actually do that now
how do we know that it actually works
well this has been studied in the
laboratory and green tea and egcg can
actually have that effect on Brown fat
when you study it in the microscope in
the lab but more importantly it works in
a clinic it works in real people so
studies in Iran have looked at women 70
women who are coming from a diabetes
clinic and they have metabolic syndrome
all right now this is kind of on your
way towards diabetes and otherwise
Badness due to excess body fat and
problems with your metabolism so you
know what's what are the signs you have
metabolic syndrome high blood pressure
high blood cholesterol High lipids uh
High blood sugar and a large waste

video waist circumference is actually
kind of a marker of how much body fat
you actually have in the tube of your
body right so everyone whether you're a
big person or a skinny person your body
body and cross-section is a tube and
there's fat that actually grows in the
middle of there right so what happens
when your visceral fat that's the fat
inside the visc your guts what happens
when that fat expands it's going to
stretch out your tube now think about
that if you had a belt okay belt belt
size at normal you get excess body fat
look at that you're got to undo a couple
of belt holes in order to be able to
buckle your belt right so that's why
waste circumference is actually a uh a
surrogate a marker of how much body fat
harmful body fat excess body fat you
might actually you have so this study in
Iran I looked at 70 women who are in a
diabetic Clinic with metabolic syndrome
gave the women seven ounces of green tea
that's just under a fluid cup of green
tea not very much in fact and they gave
it to them to drink three times a day
for eight weeks all right and there's
another placebo group that just got
lukewarm water the tea drinkers
basically um uh uh drank their uh tea uh
sort of breakfast lunch uh in the
afternoon uh and at the end of eight
weeks the tea drinkers lost two pounds
and they also shrank their waist
circumference by almost an inch and that
means that that visceral fat got burned
down click click click whoosh green tea
activates the brown fat the brown fat
burns down the fuel Burns away the fat
and guess what your waste or Comfort
shrinks when you're losing excess body
fat this is the kind of thing that you
can actually use to unpack your liver
unburden body fat uh in your uh liver
now in this study the women who had
green tea also had lower blood pressure
they had better fasting glucose it's a
sign of metabolic health and they
actually had better blood lipids as well
blood blood cholesterol now uh these are
all helpful signs that you're losing
excess body fat and having a better
metabolism all right this is going to be
helpful if you want to if you're having
a battling with a fatty liver and you
want to actually turn away from it this
is the kind of thing that you actually
want to do lose some excess body fat now
there was a similar study from Teran
University of medical Sciences they
looked at 63 men and women and these
people by the way were between the ages
of 35 and 65 so basically adults okay
all the way up to you know middle age
and they were overweight and these
people had type 2 diabetes so they've
had Frank type diabetes and the study
found that if you gave them the people
four cups of green tea per day over two
months okay what happened is they lost
three pounds of weight okay but they
also lost almost two inches of of their
waist circumference so they're they
shrink like by two holes in their belt
usually those belt holes are about an
inch apart right so remember the waist
circumference is stretched by excess
body fat and it shrinks get a tighter
belt actually uh if you shrink and lose
your visceral fat turns out if you are
tea lover most people like green tea but
if you want to try other teas that are
also effective here's some good news for
you it turns out that you can uh improve
your metabolism and burn down harmful
body fat with matcha tea That's the kind
of bright green tea that you would
actually get at a sushi bar for example
and by the way matcha is an except
exeptional tea because while green tea
is like the tea leaves steeped right so
you take the whole leaves you put them
in a bag or you put a loose leaf and all
the good stuff the polyphenols the
egcg's dissolving out of the Tea Leaf
into the water with matcha you take the
entire leaf and ground it into a powder
and stir that in so you get the entire
Leaf you get all the ecgc all the
polyphenols and you get all the dietary
fiber as well good for gut health good
for metabolic Health uh helps you burn
fat and so matcha is another tea that's
been shown to be fat lowering oolong tea
is another tea all right and if you know
what oong tea is you you're like you
probably nod your head and say Hey you
know that's my favorite now oong tea is
the kind of tea that you will often get
in a Chinese restaurant it is um not
green bright greens doesn't grassy it's
got a little bit of an oxidized taste
because it's slightly oxidized it's not
a black tea not English English
breakfast tea but it also still has egcg
the canakin that actually helps you burn
off extra body fat now if you want to go
dark all right English breakfast tea ear
great that's fine but you really want to
take it to the Limit there is a um black
tea called pooer t p apost e RH po T PO
is a small city in Southwest China that
originally developed this Smoky
fermented tea it's a fermented tea
meaning it's got its own healthy
bacteria growing in it it's dry all
right for a long period of time and it
was originally used in a trading route
so you know this these little bricks of
fermented tea could um travel long
distances without spoiling all right
well turns out researchers have found
that poer te can actually shrink your
waistline uh it's got the egcg it's got
the cakin but it's also a probiotic tea
that can also improve your metabolism so
although I talked about green tea we
also talked about matcha and ulong and
pu tea and I'm telling you black tea
like English breakfast tea and or gray
are also really good drinking alcohol is
as old as Humanity because ever since
humans were growing grains and barley uh
and then grapes uh these products were
fermented and when you ferment these
Foods barley grapes you get alcohol it's
natural chemical reaction and people
consume the alcohol right alcohol is
very much a part of our most important
traditions we have alcohol at weddings
funerals holidays graduations
celebrations all right so I'm saying all
this because I want to just put right
out there my position is that alcohol is
part is an important part of our
Humanity all right that said if
longevity is your goal then you should
know that alcohol is also a potent toxin
to the cells of our body alcohol kills
brain cells cells contributes to
dementia and in fact there's even a
special kind of dementia called
alcoholic dementia actually shrinks your
brain after it kills some of the neurons
in your brain alcohol is also toxic to
your heart and can contribute to heart
failure all right when you have heart
failure uh that that's basically when
your heart is kind of is no longer a
strong squeezing muscle it's kind of a
sad loose sack that kind of Wiggles a
little bit to get blood pump blood in
out of your body so you really need a
good pumping action ldb ldbb in order to
pump that blood out to every organ in
your body but if you got a heart failure
and alcohol can actually cause this your
heart becomes kind of like this you know
kind of like weak weakling sack that it
doesn't really get blood out and now you
got a problem all right um and heart
failure from alcoholism it's actually a
pretty significant problem uh that
cardiologists see alcohol also kills
liver cells now your liver which is one
of the largest organ in your body all
right is the body's
detoxification organ you've heard of
detox right well your liver is doing it
24/7 and basically every every bit of
blood in your body goes to the liver and
it's got these sinusoids think about
it's like a filter where all the blood
runs through it and your liver cleans
your blood takes all the toxins out
neutralizes the toxins you know tries to
figure out how to protect you as so the
blood that actually comes out from the
liver actually clean detox now alcohol
is poisonous to the liver cells as well
and a high enough concentration that can
get shrink the liver all right and
that's called alcoholic hepatitis and
you have alcoholic hepatitis guess what
your filter your detox machine is not
working so the toxins start running
around in your bloodstream and you want
to not just the alcohol toxin other
toxins as well you're just not
detoxifying your blood you've
compromised your own detox and that's
going to cut down on your longevity
alcohol also kills nerve cells now
nerves as you probably know very well
nerves control our muscles the nerves
control our gut nerves even control
rectile dysfunction so when you kill
nerves all right all of the functions
are affected and a rectile dysfunction
is quite common in people who drink a
lot of alcohol and of course alcohol is
also a mood killer and in fact you can
be depressed uh by by pe people who
drink a lot are often depressed so some
people drink to escape from a bad
situation but alcohol directly affects
the mood centers in your brain and in
fact puts you in more of a funk right so
you can if you're already depressed and
you're drinking it will actually worsen
your depression all right um alcohol
also impairs good judgment when it comes
to your health you want to have good
judgment you want to be in control and
you want to make good sharp decisions
when it comes to your diet
your lifestyle and even basic safety
right like driving operating heavy
machinery doing anything potentially
dangerous all right becomes even dicier
if you're drinking alcohol and you know
this right so in short if you want to
actually achieve longevity um cut way
down on your alcohol or eliminate it at
all enough said about alcohol I'm not
here to lecture you about it in fact
don't don't forget I told you at the
very beginning of this that alcohol is
part of our human ity what I would say
is if you're going to drink alcohol save
it for those special occasions and when
you drink don't drink very much and stay
away from the heavy stuff you know like
the
Liquors wine beer not not the worst form
of alcohol all right okay enough said
about the harms of alcohol you probably
knew this stuff already I'm not here to
lecture you about it in fact don't
forget I told you that at the very
beginning alcohol is part of our
Humanity so my recommendation is to keep
alcohol Reserve drinking to those
important life occasions all right and
if you're going to drink alcohol choose
one of the alcohols that's less alcohol
Itself by percentage beer and wine have
less alcohol than vodka for example all
right um and if you're drinking drink in
moderation keep it to like one drink or
less all right and never drink alone and
if you have concerns about your
relationship with alcohol definitely
talk to your doctor about it and uh your
doctor he or she can give you more spef
specific uh Direction on how to protect
your health overall Top Line okay on
this thing is that for longevity keep
alcohol to a minimum because it is a
toxin bone broth all right bone broth is
made by literally cooking down boiling
uh simmering bones all right uh and
bones and uh that are connected together
are connected by joints and there's a
lot of collagen uh in bones and joints
and it could be chicken bones or chicken
carcasses or turkey after you roast a
turkey or uh beef bones or it could be
pork bones or lamb bones so you know if
you were a chef and you were offered
some bone broth to be able to use to
make your sauce to make your soup to
make your stew that's really a delicious
resource it's a very very rich protein
Rich um uh broth uh but if you want to
have brone broth uh uh basically uh from
a biology perspective this is the kind
of collagen contain
foods that when you eat eat it and drink
it it actually gets digested up and
those collagen whole collagen pieces get
chewed up into little fragments that run
into your bloodstream and they can
actually do all kinds of things
including help your body make more
collagen now I'll tell you how I've done
bone broth and uh you know I I'm an
omnivore I eat everything I eat mostly a
plant-based uh meal but uh when there's
a chicken roasted or after Thanksgiving
there's a turkey carcass or a chicken
carcass what I do after cutting off all
the meat I take what's left the carcass
and I put it into a big stock pot big
Soup pot like a heavy Soup pot you put
the carcass in there you fill it up with
some water and if you wanted to um throw
some onions carrots little garlic that
kind of a thing uh right in there uh and
then you bring it to a boil bubble
bubble bubble then turn it down really
low heat so now it's it's boiled and now
it just kind of cools down it's kind of
simmering put a cap on it and you can
let that slowly simmer at low heat
overnight all right and by the morning
you've actually kind of um uh cooked in
uh into the broth all that collagen all
that rich protein and of course it's got
the flavoring of any veggies carrots
onions Etc that you might have put in
there as well then when you actually
pull the bones out okay there might be
some pieces of joint um just pull that
all out take all the uh boiled down
veggies um they're not going to be
really that great most of the nutrients
are actually in the broth take them all
up and you got a clear mostly clear
broth and that broth uh is highly
nutritious it's got a lot of protein in
it it's got a lot of collagen uh in it
and from that broth that brone broth you
can begin adding you can begin making it
into a stew you can make it into a stoop
you can actually add veggies into it etc
etc but you've got this uh broth now you
can actually freeze it so one little
trick is that you know you might want to
use some of it right away but you
probably are going to be able to make
more bone broth and you can use in an
immediate setting so if you've got ice
cube trays go ahead and pour them the
broth into ice cube trays put it in
freezer uh and then you've got bone
broth ice cubes if you do that over a
period of time you can actually up a big
bag of bone broth ice cubes is keep that
Frozen and uh you can then you actually
have bone broth whenever you actually
need it staying hydrated is absolutely
critical for overall health look I don't
have to tell you if you got stuck in a
desert and you didn't have water you ran
out of water uh you would be parched and
then you would be dehydrated and then
your kidneys would shut down and then
you would die all right but you don't
have to get to that state before you
actually start already not feeling
really well uh and so uh it turns out
quite surprisingly to me initially that
when you drink water even drinking water
can help to fight visceral fat now this
was this this has been studied in the
clinic um uh you know researchers at the
University of Nottingham in the United
Kingdom looked at 71 women who were in a
weight loss program and who were also
overweight and these were women who you
know didn't have good diets for example
they regularly drank diet sodas now what
does happen in a diet soda diet soda has
artificial sweeteners those artificial
sweeteners damage your gut microbiome
when your gut microbiome healthy gut
bacteria are damaged it uh increases
your lipids because uh your blood lipids
your blood cholesterol because healthy
gut bacteria actually help to streamline
your metabolism it disrupts a lot of
other processes in your body it raises
inflammation it's exactly what you want
to don't want to do and don't forget
these women are already overweight they
had a lot they had Vis excess visceral
fat now you um damage the gut microbiome
so whatever inflammation was caused by
the visceral fat now you got even more
because the gut bacteria is not actually
fighting it and so these women were
drinking sodas and then they took these
soda Drinkers and they divided the women
into two groups one group uh were not
allowed to drink soda they were given
just regular water to drink the other
group actually drank kept on drinking
the soda so they followed these women
for 12 months for a year women who drank
water as their beverage guess what
compared to the women who just kept on
drinking soda diet soda women who just
drank water lost 17 times more weight 17
times more weight than the women who
kept on drinking their diet beverage
I'll repeat that women who drank water
as their beverage lost 17 times more
weight than those who drank a diet
beverage right diet beverage no sugars
non-caloric should actually cause you to
gain weight but guess what that because
of damag you got microbiome uh actually
it interfered with metabolism now the
women who actually had water for their
beverage also had lower levels of
fasting blood glue glucose so they lost
weight they lost visceral fat they had
better insulin performance they had less
insulin resistance they had more stable
blood glucose um so water isn't just uh
for hydration water is actually helpful
for your metabolism and it actually
helps you lose visceral fat as well now
we don't understand exactly how it works
but we think one thing that happens is
that stretching your stomach with water
makes you feel full and when you feel
full you're uh less likely to overeat so
that might be part of it you stretch
your stomach out it sends signals to
your brain you know we're pretty full
even though it's just water there's no
calories in it you're tricking the brain
into thinking that you're more full you
got more calories than you actually do
so that might be part of it but there
are other ways that we are thinking
about this which is that uh the water in
your stomach let's say it's room
temperature or even cold water guess
what your body has to warm it up and to
warm up your core temperature that water
like inside your belly your your stomach
it's cold it needs to be warmed up it
takes metabolism it ramp your body has a
ramp up metabolism to warm that water so
this was studied by researchers from
Humbolt University in Germany and they
took healthy normal weight healthy and
normal weight men and women and these
men and women were fasting so they were
fasting for like 12 and 1/2 hours pretty
easy to do if you you know don't eat
anything after dinner and then you wait
a while before you eat breakfast in the
morning you can get to 12 hours of 12
and 1 half hours of fasting and then
what happened is that in the morning uh
for the subjects they actually got two
cups of water to drink that's all they
got okay and then uh the researchers
measured their metabolism and what they
found is that within 10 minutes within
10 minutes of drinking cold a cup of
cold water two cups of cold water the
researchers were meas who are measuring
their metabolism using a process called
indirect calorimetry it's just a
technique a device to actually measure
your metabolism they found within 10
minutes of drinking cold water two cups
of cold water the subjects had their
metabolism increased they did this in
the morning because they didn't want
food in the body they wanted fasting
right so the first thing they got to
have is two cups of water within 10
minutes of drinking water body's warming
up trying to warm up the water
metabolism increased now that's within
10 minutes by 60 minutes
guess what of drinking water the energy
expenditure the metabolism of the
subject increase by
30% with it so drink two cups of water
within 10 minutes metabolism started
going up by 1 hour after drinking just
two cups of water your energy your
metabolism increased by 30% so there's
direct metabolic uh benefits to drinking
water now when your metabolism goes up
you're burning down calories you're
burning out some of the fuel you're
burning it from the visceral fat as well
right so Water Works by ramping up your
metabolism turning on your metabolism
stretching your stomach walls to make
you feel a little bit more full so
you're less likely to overeat uh and
those temperatures in your stomach um to
warm up the water triggers
thermogenesis and and now we're back to
the brown fat story right hey there are

and the reason is what soda's basically
high carb food got
average can of soda's got nine teaspoons
of sugar cane sugar in it right if I
invited you to my house and I gave said
hey would you like to have some sugar

with nine teaspoons of cane sugar in it
you would go that's disgusting I'm not
going to have it and yet that's what's
in the can of soda that uh level of
sugar overwhelms your metabolism and
again you drink a can of soda every now
and then it's not going to hurt you okay
you drink it every day and I knew people
for example when I was in medical school
they would like drink a six-pack or two
sixpacks of soda every single day that
is so damaging to your metabolism
overwhelms your metabolism all right and
it's not just um the soda but also diet
sodas all right that's not supposed to
have carbs well they damage diet sodas
damage it different way because um some
of the artificial sweeteners uh actually
can damage your gut microbiome but to
the sugar for a second clinical Studies
have shown that Sugar sweetened
beverages like sodas increase your risk
of metabolic disease and once you have
metabolic disease metabolic syndrome
type two diabetes now you are setting up
for all the damage that diabetes can
actually cause that's been shown to
increase the risk of dementia because it
actually damages your brain health as
well also damages your vascular um your
blood vessels and your circulation
remember there's a 400 mile network of
blood vessels in your brain these are
all good reasons to cut down or cut out
your amount of soda now there are also
um beverages that are not sodas that are
also sugar sweeten for example you look
at some fruit juices or Iced Teas um you
know that you might get at a gas station
or at an airport a lot of times they are
sugar sweetened take a look at that all
right like lemonade you think that it's
got doesn't have sugar in it guess again
got added sugar uh the iced tea lemon
sweeten nice tea take a look at the
ingredient avable you'll see that
they've added sugar to that that is a
sugar sweetened beverage again
contributes to the increased risk of
metabolic syndrome and dementia because
it's damaging to the brain over time
again having a little bit every now and
then not a big deal having a lot
regularly you got a problem all right so
that's where sugar and and and sodas
sugar sweet and Beverages and sodas are
things that you actually want to really
really be careful about tomato juice now
I happen to really love tomatoes uh and
tomatoes uh are a fruit by the way not a
vegetable uh and tomatoes uh have a
bioactive called lopine lopine is a
carotenoid it actually helps to make a
tomato red um and other red colored
fruits like papayas and watermelon
watermelon actually has even more lopine
than a tomato does um lopine
triggers
thermogenesis all right so uh Tomatoes
contain lopine and lycopene triggers
thermogenesis and the study has been
done to show that this works now
researchers in Taiwan did a study in
which they enrolled 25 healthy women
okay who are of normal body weight this
is the key these are females women
normal body weight and gave them just
1.2 cups of tomato juice to drink every
day if you just gave me only 1.2 cups of
tomato juice I'd probably want to have
some more but so the point being that
this is not a lot of tomato juice but
1.2 cups of tomato juice to drink every
single day for eight weeks all right
most of these studies you know two
months three months it's really hard to
do a study that's longer than that um
for people to actually be stuck doing
only this one thing repeatedly for a
long period of time so 8 weeks 1.2 cups
of tomato juice to drink every day and
the research took the body measurements
and they actually measured blood markers
as well now at the end of the study
which is an 8we study all right
everybody was weighed and they got their
body scanned and guess what they found
all right they found that drinking
tomato juice just 1.2 cups of day every
day for eight weeks this is once a day
by the way LED to one pound of weight
loss and that's 0.5% of their body fat
to be lost burned down 1.5% of their
body fat um uh led to one pound of
weight loss now you might say hey that's
not a lot of weight when I want to lose
weight I want to lose five pounds or 10
pounds I'm just telling you this is the
power of 1.2 cups of tomato juice with
lopine in it that activates
thermogenesis that's the point all right
and by the way when they were scan
measuring um the body composition of
these subjects who were drinking tomato
juice the tomato juice drinkers um their
waist circumference shrank by half an
inch remember the waist circumference is
the uh is the circumference in the tube
of the body you when you burn down
excess visceral fat click click click
whoosh the circumference change it
shrinks down right you can actually
tighten your belt loop one half an inch
caused by just 1.2 cups of tomato juice
pretty cool means that they lost
visceral fat now I'm give you a little
Pro tip about uh tomato juice one thing
is that um you know if you're going to
go out to buy tomato juice commercial
tomato juice be really really careful
all right before you buy it turn it
around and look at the ingredient label
and make sure it doesn't have added
sugar a lot of beverages out there the
man the uh juice manufacturers will
actually add sugar and all kinds of
other chemicals to it all right
flavorings preservatives even coloring
they're adding to it right you want to
make something look bright red like
tomato like fresh tomato juice like so
if you want to get tomato juice
I prefer to recommend that you actually
do make it yourself all right pick it
from your garden or get it from a
farmers's market or even a grocery store
all right organic is going to have more
L aine story for another video but
organic Tomatoes will have more of the
bioactive more of the thermogenic stuff
that you want um and you can cook down
the tomatoes and you want to cook it
because you know what you actually you
get better absorption of lopine when you
actually you cook down the tomatoes then
puree it you want to filter if you if
you like but just dietary fiber so maybe
just pure it really fine then you
refrigerate it and you can make yourself
a really nice tomato juice one of the
things I actually like to do is squeeze
a little bit of lemon in it Citrus it's
got some vitamin C you know uh it picks
up the flavor of the tomato juice and if
you want to add some other things that
are actually good and you're going to
put into a blender or get a puree maybe
add some celery in it right celery lemon
you know you you can get it can doctor
up uh the tomato juice yourself um you
want to add some uh even uh more vitamin
C red bell pepper put that uh in the
blender as well puree that baby up and
now you've got more vitamin C now you
got the lycopene you get my drift you
actually can do a get you can turn this
beverage that that helps you lose weight
by burning a harmful body fat now you
can actually add all kinds of other good
stuff to it when you make it yourself as
opposed to potentially having the
commercial version that might have added
sugar
that's not going to help you lose weight
and other chemicals which can actually
damage your gut microbiome and cause all
kinds of other effects that you don't
actually want all right now the key
thing about tomato juice is that you
know like most fruit juices I tell
people is drink it in moderation all
right unlike tea or coffee where you
know you can drink quite a lot of it and
get benefit tomato juice you know it's
got some natural sugars from the Tomato
so be moderate okay um don't guzzle uh
tomato juice for hydration drink it and
savor it enjoy it all right you want to
actually add some spices to enhance the
flavor um that's great Do It um actually
some um fine chili powder to it what do
chili powder has it has capsacin B

course um chili add some chili powder
with capsacin you know what capsacin
does it causes thermogenesis click click
click whoosh
