today we're going to talk about apple
cider vinegar and the real reason that
it actually works to improve your
metabolism there are many kinds of
vinegar that usually find in the middle
aisle of the grocery store and apple
cider vinegar has been touted to be good
for weight loss right I used to hear
this all the time and I used to doubt it
but this has now been studied and it
actually works apple cider vinegar has
been shown to reduce harmful body fat
and help weight loss plus it actually
tastes pretty nice as well you can put
it into a salad dressing you can you
make it into a sauce or a glaze or you
can add it to a stew so I want to tell
you what changed my mind when I first
heard that apple cider vinegar could
help weight loss and I was watching
people that I knew uh Swig down spoonful
of it in the morning I thought that's
got to be rubbish where's the science
there's no reason that would actually
work well as a scientist I keep an open
mind and so when I see data uh new data
on apple cider vinegar that actually
shows that there's an activity I
actually have to take a look more
closely at what's going on so first of
all apple cider vinegars made from
fermented apples it's got vinegar in it
okay and vinegar is the chemical called
acetic acid acetic acid and this simple
chemical acetic acid prevents fat cells
from growing up and from building up uh
storing itself in adapost tissue the
other thing that AIC AES have been shown
to do is it turns down the genes the DNA
that are responsible for lipogenesis for
creating new fat cells and so um acetic
acid which is found in apple cider
vinegar actually is like gene therapy it
turns down the genes that actually makes
your fat grow as well the other thing
that acetic acid has been shown to do is
it improves your body's response to
insulin so it improves insulin
sensitivity and that means that when you
eat something with carbs or sugar in it
it'll actually help to lower your blood
sugar into healthier levels it's a
process called euglycemia acetic acid
from vinegar actually helps you get
there so as it turns out vinegar is
really good for metabolic Health okay
and this is all supported by clinical
studies I want to actually cite one of
them there was a study done in iich
Japan that look at the impact of apple
cider vinegar on body weight in 155
people between the ages of 25 and 60 and
these people were considered obese in
Japan now you know Japan has small thin
people but these were people that um in
Western countries might not have been
considered obese but in Japan they were
otherwise healthy all right and what
they did they broke these people into uh
a couple of different groups one group
got um low dose of apple cider vinegar
that's only one tablespoon that's the
low dose and the other another group got
three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
that's the high dose all right um now
what they did is they had the people
consume the apple cider vinegar
dissolved in a little bit of a beverage
water so it actually prevents teeth
damage and what they did is they had
these people the subjects consume apple
cider vinegar two times a day half of
the glass of water in the morning and
the other half at some point during the
day and there's a third group that
actually just got a placebo no apple
cider vinegar at all right so three
groups Placebo lowd dose apple cider
vinegar and high dose apple cider
vinegar and they did this for four weeks
and what they found is that people that
drank apple cider vinegar all right
whether it's low dose or high dose began
losing weight um uh after just about
four weeks and people in the placebo
group actually didn't and by week 12
this is a three-month study those people
who had three tablespoons of apple cider
vinegar lost 4.2 pounds on the scale uh
or 50% more than those people who had
only one tablespoon of apple cider
vinegar so the uh the uh higher dose
actually lost more weight and what was
really interesting is that the placebo
group did lose weight in fact the people
taking the placebo actually gained
weight while the apple cider vinegar
group lost weight so this is actually a
clinical study that proved exactly what
I had doubted and this is the evidence
that you have to pay attention to now
here's the other thing that was really
interesting and I think the important
part the apple cider vinegar drink ERS
lost harmful body fat all right they
lost visceral fat and their blood lipids
actually also improved the lipid profile
and their blood pressure also improved
probably because they lost body fat now
other Apple CER vinegar Studies have
also looked at different parameters and
they found that people who drink apple
cider vinegar take apple cider vinegar
at you reduced waist circumference right
now your waist circumference which is
the belt around your waist actually uh
expands when you got a lot of visceral
fat this is the harmful body fat and it
shrinks when you actually lose your
visceral fat and apple cider vinegar can
actually shrink your visceral fat and
Shrink uh your waist size okay so here
are some vinegar Pro tips first of all
when you go shopping for apple cider
vinegar uh there's usually a bunch of
choices and I encourage you to pick up
uh the one that attracts you the most
and look at the ingredient label you
want to make sure it's just pure apple
cider vinegar all right so many products
uh especially in the middle aisle have
lots of other ingredients that you don't
really want to put in your body so
always look at the ingredient label
that's number one uh number two is that
uh uh you can do research online to see
if a brand that you like actually has a
good reputation or not all right so go
ahead um and you don't want anything
added to it but you also want to see if
anybody HS any con have any complaints
about it now what you got to realize is
that although apple cider vinegar is a
type of vinegar that was studied in the
Japanese study for example that I cited
and some others acetic acid is present
in any vinegar so you could swap out
apple cider vinegar for let's say white
vinegar or black vinegar or red wine
vinegar or balsamic vinegar okay that's
probably an expensive swap out or malt
vinegar which you'd find in a pub for
fish and chips or cherry vinegar okay
all of these will be beneficial because
they all contain acidic acid that's a
key thing that you need to know about
any type of vinegar actually uh work now
how do you use these vinegars right
because you don't actually have to um
drink it uh out of a spoonful and by the
way again come back to the pro tip here
if you're going to do uh straight shots
of apple cider vinegar I encourage you
to actually put it into a glass of water
because over time one once or twice it's
not going to hurt you but over time if
you have that super acidic uh liquid in
your mouth you're going to dissolve the
enamel on your teeth and you don't want
that so diluting it out in a glass of
water or some other beverage actually
will be helpful you want to use water
that's fine but if you want to find
something else uh think about um tomato
juice is another great way to actually
put a little bit of apple cider vinegar
it'll the flavor will actually disappear
into the background especially if you
don't like the taste of vinegar a little
Tangy all right um uh here's another
thing vinegar is really really easy to
buy a bottle and store it in your pantry
so this is not something you got to go
up and buy all the time as long as you
buy it keep it in your pantry sealed up
uh make sure the cap is really tight
because if air gets in there you'll get
more fermentation uh and a little layer
will form it's called a mother you take
it out you can still use it but uh
that's something that you probably don't
need to have happen want to have happen
so seal it up make sure airtight put in
a dark cool place like your pantry all
right and in fact if you store your
vinegar properly it pretty much lasts
forever all right uh so uh this is
actually something this is actually
something that really really keeps for a
long uh time so now the other thing I
think is for you to know is that you can
use um apple cider vinegar and other
vinegars acetic acid in salad dressings
you can use it in uh sautes you can
actually um put it on something you're
going to roast or bake lots of different
ways to actually get apple cider vinegar
into your um body and just think about
it one tablespoon or three tablespoons
actually gives you benefit that's not
very much at all anybody can actually do
it today we're going to talk about the
remarkable benefits of eating
blueberries and how they can heal your
health eating blueberries can improve
your metabolism how do they do this
blueberries contain bioactives one of
them is called anthocyanin the other
one's called pro-an oin and the ones
called quatin and these actually improve
your metabolism so studies in Turkey
have actually enrolled adults who were
overweight and gave them blueberries to
eat and what do you think they found
well first of all these adults were put
on a reduced calorie diet and a little
bit of exercise just so they weren't
couch potatoes and they were moving and
not eating too much and then after 6
weeks they gave them blueberries to eat
how much really just of quart cup of
frozen blueberries every day for another
six weeks but they gave one group of
blueberries one group of placebos you
know what they found we found the
blueberry eaters lost 8 pounds or 21%
more than the group that was eating the
placebos meaning that if you are having
a healthy lifestyle with exercise
reducing your calories adding
blueberries even frozen blueberries
would actually help you lose more weight
now the other thing is that eating the
blueberry ERS also had less visceral fat
that's the kind of hey there have you
heard of intermittent fasting I'm sure
you have it's not what you eat but it's
about when you eat and I've got a simple
guide to help you get started with
intermittent fasting if you're looking
for an easy way to boost your energy and
improve your health and maybe shed a few
pounds along the way this could be the
perfect solution for you in my guide I'm
going to show you how fasting helps your
body burn fat and also repair itself
it's an easy thing that you can do
effortlessly every single day plus I'll
give you tips on how to succeed with
intermittent fasting and I'll tell you
the science behind why this works just
click the link below to grab your free
copy or scan the QR code on the screen
right now now let's get back to the
video harmful inflammatory fat that you
want to get rid of within the tube of
your body the blueberry eaters also had
better insulin sensitivity meaning that
they had better overall metabolism as
well now here's the thing about
blueberries they are in season in the
summertime and if you're going to go out
to a farmers market or grocery store
looking at blueberries here's a little
tip of what you actually want to be able
to uh avoid don't go for any of the
berries that are green avoid those
they're not ripe and don't go for any
ones that are really really softened up
you know those sort of on their way to
rotting so just avoid those and if you
can't get Summer blueberries that's okay
frozen blueberries just like that
research study showed are actually just
fine here's something else you might not
know about blueberries they have other
names so for example they've been called
wild Huckleberry or even hortle berries
and in Europe they're known as Bill
berries use the name that you're most
familiar with but you recognize them on
site they're these tiny little dark blue
super sweet uh berries that you can find
during the summertime now here's how why
like I like to use blueberries I like to
eat a handful of them in the morning
just rinse them off always rinse off
your blueberries organic is even better
and then dry them off and just pop them
into your mouth all right uh that's a
great way or you can add them to some
yogurt I always you whole fat yogurt you
can also sprinkle them into a salad and
if you're a baker add them to muffins
that that those are easy ways to
actually get blueberries into your
system all right second incredible point
I want to make is that eating
blueberries reduces inflammation and the
reason is that these bioactives the
anthocyanin Pro anthocyanin and cortin
are powerful reducers of whole body
inflammation and we know that
inflammation is responsible as a root
cause of many chronic diseases so it
doesn't matter what you got if you
actually eat blueberries and reduce
inflammation that's actually going to be
beneficial to your health and help you
heal faster Okay the third point I want
to make about eating blueberries is they
actually improve your immune defenses as
well and this is a really interesting
one why do we want good immune defenses
well protects us from infection from the
outside world for example but a really
good immunity also protects us from
cancer because our immune system
conducts surveillance throughout our
body and looks for abnormal cells like
cancer cells and wipes them right out so
it was a clinical study that was
actually done at Louisiana State
University where um they actually
studied blueberries uh in the form of a
smoothie versus a placebo of course
that's how a good clinical study is done
and what they did is they enrolled
people who had metabolic syndrome now
you may or may not have metabolic
syndrome but a lot of people have
metabolic syndrome what is that well
that's a combination of high blood
pressure high blood lipids like your
cholesterol triglycerides high LDL bad
cholesterol high blood sugars all right
you know we talk about glucose spikes
but actually what it is is that higher
levels generally of your blood sugar and
a big waistline because when your
waistline is bigger it means you're more
stuffed with visceral inflammatory fat
okay so they enrolled this one study
enrolled people with the metabolic
syndrome and they gave them blueberries
in the form of a smoothie how much they
give just one and 1/2 cups of blueberry
powder in this case um they put them in
yogurt with a little bit of milk so what
they did is they actually measured in
the blood immune cells before and after
um having the blueberry smoothies and
guess what they found they found
drinking the blueberry smoothie led to
an 88% increase increase in special
immune cells called myoid dendritic
cells myoid djeric cells help protect
against
infection in contrast to people who had
the placebo smoothie No Blueberries had
no increases in these special immune
myoid dendri cells the other thing that
has been done to look at blueberries and
their effect on immune system is that
they studied the effect of blueberries
on special immune cells called natural
killer cells or enk cells now here's the
thing uh they studied them in people who
uh were exercising now when you exercise
you have a big uh surge in your immune
cells very very briefly okay and then
when you stop exercising you have a
Plunge in your immune system all right a
Plunge in your a dip in your immune
system so a clinical study was done
looking at people who are physically fit
and they wanted to see uh what the
effect of eating blueberries were so
they gave these people uh two cups just
a little under two cups 1.7 cups of
blueberries a day to eat every day for
six weeks all right then they put them
on an exercise test a treadmill and then
they measured their blood before the
blueberries uh before exercise and
during exercise they actually had them
before just before exercise they had
them eating a little bit more
blueberries like almost three cups or an
extra cup let's call it and then they
put them on the exercise system and they
drew their blood outwards it you know
what they found they found that
blueberry eaters had an increase in
their natural killer cells just by
eating blueberries so more defensive
natural killing cells um these are
immune cells uh just by eating
blueberries and then after exercise
instead of actually having a plunge of
their natural cells blueberry eaters
kept them um level so they actually did
not have a dip in their immunity so this
actually shows that actually eating
blueberry is good for lowering
inflammation raising immunity good for
metabolism shrinking waistline losing
some weight and overall just making you
more fit in every single sense of the
word
[Music]
hey I'm at the famous Union Square
Farmers Market for the Green Market and
I'm just going in I thought I would
actually show you what you can find in a
city market let's go great thing I love
about farmers markets is like got
everything they got flowers look at
these beautiful flowers so they have got
different booths selling all kinds of
goodies this is a place that does
organic
lettuces and uh you can kind of see
there nice little packages um different
kinds of lettuce and um here's who so
and what I think is interesting about
lettuce is that we used to always think
about them as just salad greens but even
though lettuce is very watery you has
different pigments and lettuce with red
pigments contain cyanidins this is like
antoyan and portin both of these are the
same things that are actually you found
in berries and other types of Health
hethy vegetables that activate your
metabolism so check it out he shees Ross
lettuce it's got some red pigment to it
it got this one right here I think Miss
so the pigmented ftic actually are good
for the health and why do I get organic
the reason you want to get organic is
because organic foods uh fruits and
vegetables are grown without pesticides
pesticides are kill all the insects uh
so that the crop actually can be more
productive and look a little better but
the issue is that the insects that
nibble on the plants actually stimulate
the plant to produce bioactives so many
of the bioactives like the sanadin and
of course we talked about are made in a
plant in part as a wooing response to
the nature that they're grown in when
you actually treat with pesticides we
kill off the bugs less injury less
nibbling on the stems and you actually
that plant needs to make less bioactives
so when you actually have conventionally
grown with pesticides fruits and
vegetables uh you get fewer bioactives
when you let you get organic you get
more bioactives more natural more living
in nature with the little bugs nibbling
on them and so they actually have more
bioactives that's a reason en to buy
bioactiv so that's why I'm here at this
uh stall in the Farmer part of let's go
check out some other ones all right I
found something else that I love
ramps we don't know what ramps are these
that to come out in the late spring just
for a few weeks and these are related to
the onion family uh they grow wild uh
they um have this bulb with a beautiful
leaf and uh what you do is you uh clip
off to the bulb and you can wash off the
leaves and all you have to do is to put
them on a pcha like a griddle a little
bit of extra virgin olive oil and just
let them sit there for literally like 10
seconds 15 seconds Max and you pull them
off and you wind up just having this
delicious as spring fresh vegetable you
don't need to do very much with it it is
absolutely delicious I would love wraps
now here's the thing wraps are actually
very healthy for you like other families
of Alum onions garlic shallots uh ramps
actually contain bioactives uh cherol H
coratin routin these actually are good
for the circulation they uh activate
your metabolism and the other thing that
ramps actually are able to do is lower
blood pressure and lower flood lipids
and so these are the the types of
bioactives that I'm talking about but
more importantly this is a delicious
seasonal food called ramps I I encourage
anybody who doesn't who's are familiar
with ramps to give it a shot this is a
beautiful display
though and I can't wait to cook with
some of
these all right if fun another favorite
of mine go check it out and there's a
lme that kins out a little bit I'm going
to reach over there these are PE
tendrils this is actually the delicate
leaves of the plant that produces spring
peas now see if you can see them through
there these are a little bit more than
Sprouts they're chots but they have
stems and they've got delicious leaves
they kind of taste like fresh peas a
little bit and they're great to cook
with and they contain cerol and Corset
tin just like I talked about uh with
ramps good for the metabolism good for
your circulation good for lipid control
and there's fiber in P tendrils this is
a part of the food that most people
don't eat that I encourage you to try
just wash these off again uh snap off
the harder parts of the stems uh and uh
you all you need to do is put them in a
walk or a skillet a little bit of oil
could be uh extra virgin olive oil and
give it a quick stir fry add a little
bit of uh water to it to f finish it off
it'll be absolutely delicious literally
this
takes 30 seconds I to cook tea tendrils
um chop up some garlic you got garlic
and pet tendrils this is a classic uh in
traditional Chinese cookie check it out
another find I have for you check this
out Fiddle Head Furs this is actually
Furs just like you would actually have
from in the woods you know B on the
ground they are beautiful these are the
Furs before they unfurl they're still
curled up together check it out this is
actually a delicious Market treat we
only find them for a few weeks uh in the
springtime and um uh you to wash them up
really good because they're actually
found on the forest ground uh they spped
off uh wash them and uh you can actually
blanch them sauté them or just uh um
cook them down with some other
vegetables uh as well little onions uh
little garlic uh you can add some red
belt PE burst and make yourself a nice
Fiddle Head sauté absolutely delicious
it does have a slightly asparagus SCE
taste but check it out just absolutely
beautiful if you haven't had Fiddle Head
ferns this is a Dr Lee special I
strongly advise it
delicious ctin in KFOR all are the
bioactives in Fiddle Head ferns just
like many of these spring vegetables you
get that bean tempol CR tin good for
metabolism good for circulation good for
your blood
lipids and go for your taste
placea spicy greens you can have the
salad you can sé it as well it contains
ioy the same thing that's inoli and
another Brasa highly recommend it it's
got a nice peppery taste to it if your
organic ones they're going to have more
bioactives as
life ah look what I found here we're
going think a look at this mushrooms I
love going to the mushroom section check
out these all these beautiful mushroom
he great display Chestnut
mushrooms your May mushrooms golden
moisture mushrooms What official and the
mushroom besides absolutely delicious a
we a solu fiber and a bio tip it Feats
it got microbiome and the other things
that it does and it can also star cancer
by cutting off the blood SP you're not a
mush Glover you should try them and if
you are buy them when you get them
prepped from a reput porer don't ever
try to porge mushrooms yourself there
lots of deadly poisonous mushrooms out
there that look edible uh what you want
to do is to get somebody in notice what
they're doing that's about the money was
are three uh sort by the way uh not only
B A glan but vitamin D if you want a
little tip on how to get more vitamin D
out of your mushrooms one thing you can
actually do is uh slice some and expose
them to sunlight a your kitchen window
because then you'll actually get the the
suide activating vitamin D production
gain that mro and Flash get a little bit
more before you cooking couple of hours
all right I want to make one more point
about mro was I think would be helpful
but these are mostly edible mushrooms
lion fade which has become very very
popular he actually a medicinal mushroom
she use a traditional Chinese medicine
and Asian healing it it does actually uh
feel pretty nice but actually
traditionally a a medicinal mushroom I
like to uh suggest that you leave the
medicinal mushrooms for traditional
healing to use and not just for culinary
use some of these other mushroom are
just culinary mushroom Keeps The
Culinary mushrooms in the kitchen
medical mushrooms when you need them
within the hands of a tradtional keer
that's the safest way as you get but I
am so delighted that uh this uh get
these uh great fresh mushrooms at the
Union Square Market look here's
something else I found check this out
anyone recogn knows what these are
chamomile part of chamomile tea here is
fresh camomile look at that it is uh so
interesting how beautiful it is look at
the look at the tendrils here out looks
like a gigantic Bunch coming out of a
time here you go a bunch of camomile so
what is in chamomile chamomile contains
a bioact called appenine and appenine is
actually a mild sentive which is why it
actually causes your brain to relax
which is why we use chemom mile te as a
herbal to relax I don't usually see
these in the Farmers Market but they are
absolutely beautiful to take a look at
when I hear something El pretty unusual
sign flower I did not know you cani
craft
$5 some beautiful
Des can actually you put these in a b as
a bouquet
in Gish this part of flour okay can use
these to cook with they're they're
firmer than say a the CH that they all
grow together oh you know this will come
out of the Bland so I just pull these
off very gently so this is a regular CH
correct it feel how it's flexible yeah
yeah so this is fmer because it's
holding up the flower and the vassa very
interesting you use this as a Gard I do
I just pull this off like this sprinkle
it out my food and it's and today I
tasted and it's pretty strong usually
it's a little mild but it's ni strong
like chai flavor just like a child
yeah wow he just like a CH
all right thank you much you're welcome
a good day wow it's amazing Discovery I
just made chai flowers actually tastes
like ches um next time I find them going
to go eat some more
amazing and check this out
unconventionally grown Specialty Produce
