In order to study the etiquette of Islam. May our meeting be blessed by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Blessings and peace may always bestowed upon our lord, our role models, our imams, our intercessors, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), and also to his family and all his friends without exception. We enter into the 9th hadith, about the prohibition of passing the greeting to unbelievers. From Ali bin Abi Thalib radhiyallahu taala 'anhu, he said: قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ ‏- (ﷺ) Rasulullah (ﷺ) said لَا تَبْدَؤُوا اَلْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى بِالسَّلَامِ, Do not initiate the saluting of Jews and Christians. وَإِذَا لَقَيْتُمُوهُمْ فِي طَرِيقٍ, فَاضْطَرُّوهُمْ إِلَى أَضْيَقِهِ and if you meet any of them on the road, force him to go to the narrowest part of the road This hadith is an authentic hadith narrated by Muslim Imam. I repeat the words of the Prophet (ﷺ): لَا تَبْدَؤُوا اَلْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى بِالسَّلَامِ, Do not initiate the saluting of Jews and Christians, وَإِذَا لَقَيْتُمُوهُمْ فِي طَرِيقٍ, فَاضْطَرُّوهُمْ إِلَى أَضْيَقِهِ and if you meet any of them on the road, then force him to go to the narrowest part of the road you're not the one to move aside. That is the meaning. Thayyib. This hadith is often a discussion, especially Orientalists to bring down Islam. As if Islam teaches a hard character to, for Muslims against non-Muslims. But actually if we want to be honest, we know how many hadiths or verses, which tell us to do good, even to non-Muslims. Example: In the Qur'an Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said: لَّا يَنْهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَٰتِلُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجُوكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمْ أَن تَبَرُّوهُمْ وَتُقْسِطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْۚ Allah does not forbid you to do good and do justice to non-Muslims, unbelievers, for whom they did not fight your religion and did not expel you from your place of residence. Here it is clear that Allah does not forbid. What is forbidden is to do good to unbelievers who fight religion. As for infidels who do not fight religion, then Allah does not forbid, said Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, to do good. Do justice to them, do good to them. Therefore the scholars have a consensus, if a Muslim who helps unbelievers, non-Muslims in the framework of his humanity because of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, he'll be rewarded. Among the characteristics of the inhabitants of heaven, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said: وَيُطْعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ ٱللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَآءً وَلَا شُكُورًا Allah said Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala: "And they, the inhabitants of heaven, among their characteristics, وَيُطْعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ they give food عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ They give food that they like to whom? وَيُطْعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا They give to the poor, to orphans, to Asir. Asir is a prisoner of war. Prisoner of war. إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ ٱللَّهِ In fact we give this food because Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَآءً وَلَا شُكُورًا We don't need replies from you, we don't need thanks from you. Here Allah mentioned 3 were given food. First is poor, second is orphan, third what? Asir Asir are prisoners of war, and they are infidels. It turns out that Allah tells believers to do good to prisoners of war. And this is done by the companions. When in the Battle of Badr, after many wars, dozens of polytheists were taken prisoner by the Muslims. So the friends do good to them. To the extent that the companions give them food food that they like. In the days of the companion wheat was a luxury meal. Dates of ordinary food. When they bring food to the captives, they give wheat. While those who bring food to eat dates. Until the prisoner feels bad. What we supposed to do? The ones who eat food eat dates, what should we eat? Bread. As if I visit unbelievers in prison. Then I bring, I bring roast chicken and fried tempeh. Then I told him to eat the chicken, I eat fried tempeh. Because I prefer tempeh to chicken. Nope. That is, it means that even this prisoner feels, feels bad. How a Muslim, while he is an infidel, is being held captive, treated good by that Muslim. So there are too many propositions that Islam is good even to, outside of Islam. Therefore, look at how the Prophet (ﷺ), when there was a Jewish boy. كان يخدم النبي (ﷺ) Previously had worked to help the Prophet (ﷺ). When the boy sick, the Prophet visited this Jewish boy. The Prophet was the head of an Islamic state. While this is a servant, sick, non-Muslim, Jewish. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) took the time to visit the Jewish man. Are there heads of state, visiting non-Muslims, a sick non muslim, helpers. This was done by the Prophet (ﷺ). Then the Prophet visited the Jewish youth, the Prophet indicted him to convert to Islam. And he converted to Islam. So in many ways Islam upholds justice, doing good, humanity, and others. But in this hadith, this is another case. There are times when Islam shows its izzah. There are times when Islam shows its glory. Some muslim in the community, there're gathering of Muslims, non-Muslims, unbelievers. Shy Muslims don't ever talk, non-Muslims always talk. This is not right. What is the time for a Muslim to show? Izzah. Showing its glory. Likewise when walking. The Prophet taught when walking on a road. So the Prophet said not to honor this person. Why are you moving, tell him to walk. Do not. you just keep going. Let him move. Understand? Because this person is polytheistic, Christians. This person associates partners with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. This person considers Jesus to be a son of Allah. This person considers that Jesus is God. Does not deserve to be honored. So do not, when we walk, then we move, then we invite him. No. Keep going. This is the Prophet teach us. But some scholars say this goes on, this applies when we, in an Islamic country. But if you are in a non-islamic state, living there, and you behave like that, it's not appropriate. The Prophet's mentioned when he lived in an Islamic country. Then it's not the time for you to budge at that. But walk, show izzah a Muslim. No need to think, let him move. Then do not be applied wrongly. Many Muslims, a minority, live in a non-islamic country. Then apply this hadith, out of place. He walks, and doesn't want to move, told him to move. While he got in the car. This is also wrong too. This is not in the car. Cars on the streets have their own rules. But this is a condition where when living in an Islamic country. So they, the Christians and the Jews who must submit to Islamic rules. So when you meet them, you don't need to budge. No need to give them the road. No. We walk normally so that those who move aside. As for the beginning of the hadith, the Prophet (ﷺ): لَا تَبْدَؤُوا اَلْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى بِالسَّلَامِ "Don't initiate, saluting to Jews and Christians. This is a prohibition from the Prophet (ﷺ). Why? Because salaam (salutations) is tahiyatul muslimin. Salutaions are specifically owned by Muslims. Tahiyatul ahlil jannah. Even the inhabitants of heaven when, When they met in heaven they said salaam. And salutations have beautiful meanings. Salvation be upon you. The meaning of Assalamualaikum is salvation be upon you. And this is not proper to say to them polytheists. Because they won't get salvation. How they are said to be in peace, while they associate partners with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. They do shirk to Allah subhanahu wa taala. They are threatened eternally in hell forever. Then it is not acceptable to to pray for their peace, safety. Moreover, added warahmatullahi wabarakatu. Nope. Inappropriate for them. Therefore a Muslim does not initiate to say greetings, except if a Muslim passes through a group of people where there are Muslims, there are unbelievers, there are idol worshipers. So it's okay if he said salaam to them, with the intention of addressing the Muslims. For example, for example there is a director. He has a company. Inside the company, there are Muslims, there are non-Muslims. Then he may say "Assalamualaikum warohmatullohi wabarokatuh". with the intention of addressing the Muslims. As for initiating salution to non-Muslims, it is not allowed. Okay. Ustadz, how if they (non-muslims) who start saying salaam? There are some non-Muslims who are good at greeting. Assalamualaikum. That, I was fooled to meet some people. Christians, but he is good at saying: Ustadz, assalamualaikum. I think he's a muslims, but apparently he's not. To the extent that when I meet him, I said sallam first. Assalamualaikum. Turns out he is a non-Muslim. I was fooled. I was told: "Ustadz, that's not a Muslim." So to a non Muslim, I must not go ahead to say salaam to him. If you visit Papua. Because he called him fluent. "Ustadz, how are you, Ustadz?" As if he is truly a Muslim. His appearance is also like a Muslims. Apparently non-Muslim. His character is also good. In Papua, if you go to Papua. And you got intercepted with Papuans "Where are you going, Muslim priest?" he said. Well, this means it's not Muslim. He did not say "Where are you ustadh?" What did he say? "Where are you going Muslim priests?" Thayyib. So we shouldn't give our salaam first (to non-muslim). Now if they say "Assalamualaikum" first, there are different opinions among the scholars. But the opinion chosen by Imam An-Nawawi rahimahullahu ta'ala, we answered, the scholars agreed it's allowed to answer, but there're different opinions about how to answer it. The more careful way is to answer "Wa‘alaikum" or "Aaikum ". Can we say "Waalaikumsalam"? There're different opinions among the scholars. He said "Assalamualaikum", "Salvation upon you." Moreover, there are those who are fluent, "Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh". I once gave a lecture in a city. Then the introductory was given by the state officials. People all know, this country's officials apostatized. So when the official said greetings "Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh", no one answered. I was also confused, "Why is that?" "He apostatized, Ustadh." We should just answer "waalaikum", it's ok. Can we answer "Waalaikumsalam", as he says greetings? Then there are different opinions among the scholars. Some say it's allowed, some say no. Be more careful we answer "waalaikum". As came in the hadith of the Prophet (ﷺ). One day, Rasulullah (ﷺ) was at Aisha's house. Suddenly a group of Jews passed by. Then they said greeting to the Prophet. By saying "Assamualaikum." As if, if sounded briefly "Assalamualaikum". But apparently the lam letters were removed. "Assamualaikum", which means "May you die quickly, O Rasulullah, O Muhammad." As-sam means death. "Death to you, O Muhammad." "Assamualaikum" The Prophet knew they did not say salaam, but they said death. So they mocked. So the Prophet answered "waalaikum". "You're all dead too." "Waalaikum" means "You too." Aisha then became angry. Aisha then said: وَعَلَيْكُمْ السَّامُ ،وَلَعَنَه وَغَضب اللَّه عَلَيْكُمْ‏ Aisha said: "You guys are dead. Allah's curse upon you. Allah's wrath upon you. O the brothers and sisters of pigs and monkeys. " Mashallah, complete. Aisha. Then the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam rebuked Aisha. "O Aisha, why do you have to be so loud like that?" ما كان الرفق في شيء إلا زانه، وما نُزع الرفق من شيء إلا شانه "No tenderness is placed on anything except decorating it, not tenderness is removed from everything unless it will damage it." "Didn't you hear what they said?" Said the Prophet "I have answered, waalaikum." So, what is the name. If they say hello, then we answer "Waalaikum" or "Alaikum". This is more appropriate, as explained by Al Imam Nawawi rahimahullahu taala. Ustadz, how about when we meet with boss. I am a subordinate, when I see the boss, no salaam? I will be fired Ustadh. Alright. If the boss is non-Muslim, we meet with our boss, a non-Muslim, so we don't say Assalamualaikum. Because of that, the syar'i sayings are only for Muslims. Subhan Allah. It's incredible, maybe there is no other religion like Islam. Extraordinary. Say greetings, you have to answer greetings. Saying prayer between them, mutual respect between them. Salam fosters love between them, among the Muslims. This might not be found in other religions. Not specifically taught like this. So if we meet with our boss who is non-Muslim, then don't say shariah greetings. But it is permissible to say the common greetings. Words like that. But not Assalamualaikum. We say "Morning sir", it's allowed. Afternoon sir, Good morning, for example. Healthy sir? Alhamdulillah, healthy. It's okay. There is no problem. Worldly matters. But don't say Assalamualaikum if you find that he is non-Muslim. Why? Because in Assalamualaikum there is a prayer of salvation and that prayer is inappropriate for those who do shirk to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Thayyib. We continue. The 10th hadith about the Etiquette of Sneezing. The Etiquette of Sneezing. If one of you sneezes, then say Alhamdulillah. Then his brother who hears him say Alhamdulillah, should answer by saying Yarhamukallah. May Allah bless you. If the one who sneezed heard his brother pray for him yarhamukallah. So he should pray back for his brother by saying yahdikumullah wa yushlihu balakum. May Allah give you guidance and may Allah improve or correct your affairs. I repeat, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ: اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ If one of you sneezes, then he should say Alhamdulillah. All praises be to Allah. So his brother who hears these words, should say yarhamukallah. May Allah bless you. If he heard his brother pray yarhamukallah. So he should pray back by praying yahdikumullah wa yushlihu balakum. May Allah give you guidance and set your affairs right. This hadith is related to the sneezing manners. First, when a person sneezes he should praise Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Because health experts, doctors, say that sneezing is a sign that a person is healthy. There is resistance when there is an outside object that enters the nose it resists the outside object. Cleaning the nose. Then this favor, this favor is a favor that he should be grateful for. So he said Alhamdulillah. What is it in the Javanese? Wahing Especially if we want sneeze, then it won't come out, we're annoyed. Must concentrate on looking for the sun and stuff(light). It doesn't taste good. Therefore, if it has been successful, thank Allah. Means successful. Then when a person sneezes, he says Alhamdulillah as a form of praise to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Well, people who sneeze, among the manners taught by the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) if he sneezes, he closes his mouth or closes his face. Then turn down the sound. Turn down the sound. So someone who sneezes, he should try to cover it with something. If he has cloth, tissue, he covers his nose. But if it's not there, he covers it with his hands. This is etiquette, because something could come out. Gouting out for example, or coming out of something from his nose that is unsightly, dirty, disgusted for example. Then he can be blocked with his hands. That's the first, he covered his nose when sneezing. The second he lowered his voice. And subhanallah, I lived in Medina, in Saudi, almost 15 years, in college. The volume of average Saudi when sneezing is small . Most of them. The arabs in general. So really this etiquette of the Prophet was done by them. On average their volume when sneezing is small. The volume is very small. If we are in Indonesia, no. Blaring. I used to, deliberately even, I was still in elementary school, still in middle school, when sneezing deliberately exaggerated. Now that I know the Sunnah, I want to reduce the volume, I can't have the volume anymore. Can't be small anymore. It's already jarring when I'm sneezing. I want to lower the volume, but I can not. No relief. And it can't be lowered anymore. So. Even though the etiquette of sneezing is, to close the nose while turning down the volume. So as not to disturb the others. So as not to disturb the others. Some people when sneezing, their voice is so loud, they don't cover their nose, they are even directed to others. So this contradicts the sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ). Imagine. Extraordinary. How Islam is so perfect, that even sneezing is taught by Islam. Then after he sneezed, if any of his brothers heard, then he prays for this person. This person, subhanallah, if he sneezes, he remembers Allah, he thanks Allah, he praises Allah. So his brother responded by saying yarhamukallah. May Allah bless you. But if the brother does not say Alhamdulillah, then don't pray yarhamukallah. Don't pray yarhamukallah. Because the Prophet did not pray yarhamukallah for those who did not say Alhamdulillah when sneezing. There are 2 people sneezing on the side of the Prophet (ﷺ): فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتْ الْآخَرَ So the Prophet said yarhamukallah to one of the two and the Prophet did not say yarhamukallah to the other. فَقِيلَ لَهُ Then ask the Prophet. Said the Prophet: I say yarhamukallah to this person, because when he sneezed, he said Alhamdulillah. And do not say yarhamukallah to him. Why? When he sneezed, he did not say alhamdulillah. In another narration, people who were not prayed protested. So he said: O Messenger of Allah, you pray for him, you do not pray for me. You say yarhamukallah to him. As for when I sneezed, you don't say yarhamukallah. So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: إنَّ هدا حمد الله، ولم تحمد الله He whom I prayed for, he said alhamdulillah. As for you, when you sneezed, you didn't say alhamdulilllah. So if someone sneezes, doesn't say alhamdulillah, then there's no need to answer yarhamukallah. Then what should we do Ustadz? We can remind him. Eh, what do people say sneezing? Alhamdulillah, I forgot. Yarhamukallah. Then we answer. And this was done by Al-Auza’i. Al-Auza’i when there's someone sneezing. Al-Auza'i narrated. When there was a sneeze in front of Ibn Mubarok, then this person did not say Alhamdulillah. So Al-Auza'i said to him: what do those who sneeze say? This person says Alhamdulillah. Then it was answered yarhamukallah. So be reminded. No problem. And this is the sunnah, we remind people. O brother, what someone sneezes say? Alhamdulillah. So we can answer yarhamukallah. He praised Allah, we pray for him. I once went to college, when I was studying at campus, at UGM. There is a teacher of mine, a very smart person, a Muslim. He taught again then he sneezed. Hacing. Blaring. Then he said "Sorry". how to answer? He said sorry. If he said alhamdulillah we answer yarhamukallah. He said sorry, we don't need to answer. As if someone sneezes repeatedly. Up to three times. Means he is sick. We know this person has the flu or not. If he has a cold, then we pray with another prayer, we say syafakallah. May Allah cure your illness. It is the sign that he is sick. Sneezing is a sign that he is sick. So we pray, as in a hadith: There was one of the companions who sneezed repeatedly. So the Prophet said: الرَّجُلُ مَزْكُومٌ In fact he has the flu. So to face people like this, we pray for him, syafakallah. Well, if we have sneezed we say alhamdulillah. Then someone says yarhamukallah, then we reply to these prayers with another beautiful prayer. May Allah give you guidance and may Allah make your affairs right. The scholars say, come in a number of narrations, when a person sneezes, he may say thank alhamdulillah. It's allowed. Other narrations: you may say alhamdulillahi robbilalamin. It's allowed Other narrations: you may say alhamdulillah ala kulli haal. It's allowed. So there are three. Alhamdulillah, allowed. Alhamdulillahi robbilalamin, allowed. Alhamdulillah ala kulli haal, also allowed. Because it came from history. And everything is authentic. But we must not add. Denied by the scholars. Like some people who when sneezing: Haching. Alhamdulillah asholatu wassalamu ala rasulillah. It's not allowed He must not add to the blessings of the Prophet. It's true that blessings to the Prophet is recommended at any time. But it should not be included in the series of sneezing prayers. It's now allowed. Because it is a new thing in shari'a. It was never exemplified by the companions and was never taught by the Prophet (ﷺ). A person who sneezes is enough for him to say Alhamdulillah or Alhamdulillahi robbilalamin or Alhamdulillah ala kulli haal. Do not say alhamdulillahirobbilalamin asholatu wassalamu ala rasulillah. Do salawat at other times. Do not used it as if it's a part of dhikr series after sneezing. Likewise it is not recommended when someone sneezes, then continues the reciting Al-Fatihah until finished. (reciting Al-Fatihah) Go on Alif Lam Mim So no need to add to the teachings of the Prophet (ﷺ). It's enough to say alhamdulillah, alhamdulillahirobbilalamin, or alhamdulillah ala kulli haal. Then as for answering yarhamukallah, it came from some companions. From Abu Jamroh, he said: سمعت ابن عباس يقول إذا شمت Ibn Abbas if he sneezes, then someone says yarhamukallah, so he answers: عافانا الله وإياكم من النار This is also permitted by the scholars. May Allah save me and save you from hell. Likewise, there is also narration from Ibn Umar, who answered prayer by saying: يَرْحَمُنَا اللَّهُ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَيَغْفِرُ لَنَا وَلَكُمْ May Allah bless us and bless you. And may Allah forgive us and forgive you. This is permissible. Some that came from narartion of the companions. Ladies and gentlemen, blessed by Allah Subhana Wa Ta'ala, if someone heard a sneezing sound. And he knew, the person who sneezed said alhamdulillah. Even though it was not heard, it's still recommended that he answered: Yarhamukallah. There are two possibilities. First, he knows the person sneezed and the person said alhamdulillah. His voice was so soft that it was not heard. But he (ﷺ) the person, verbally moving. This person praises Allah. Then it's recommended for him to answer yarhamukallah. Or second, he did not hear and did not see the movement of the mouth. Maybe the person was facing the other direction. But he heard someone else answer yarhamukallah. Means this person had said alhamdulillah. He heard other people saying yarhamukallah, so he is also to say yarhamukallah. This is as explained by Ibn Hajar rahimahullahu taala. Even al-hafiz Ibn Hajar, in Fathul Baari mentioned the amazing story narrated by Ibn Abdil Bar with authentic chain of narration. About the story of Abu Daud, Al-Imam Abu Daud Al-Sajistani, shohibus sunan, author of Sunan Abi Daud. I'll read the narration: أنه كَانَ فِي سَفِينَة One day Al-Imam Abu Daud As-Sajistani was on a ship. With other people on the boat. Maybe the ship was ready to sail. Suddenly he heard, on the beach, the boat was still on the edge ready to sail Suddenly he (ﷺ) from a distance, there was someone on the beach sneezing. The person said alhamdulillah, maybe he saw the movement of his mouth. Alhamdulillah. So Al-Imam Abu Daud As-Sajistani rented a small boat and he got off a large ship. He rented a boat. Then he went to the beach. Then he said yarhamukallah. People were surprised, he paid one dirham. Then went to the beach, replying yarhamukallah. Subhanallah. How he passionately practicing the sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ). Then he returned to the ship. Then he was asked, why did you that you rented the boat by one dirham. Then went there, then said yarhamukallah. Subhanallah, he answered with a humble answer. He said: May his prayer be answered. Is not it if I say yarhamukallah, he will answer: Yahdikumullah wa yuslihu balakum. I was prayed to by him, who knows if his prayer will be answered. He did not say: This is the sunnah, I do the sunnah. No, he doesn't show off either. Humlby then he said: I hope that person's prayer will be answered. Then the boat sailed, the boat sailed. When at night they sleep, suddenly, Suddenly the passenger on the ship heard a voice say: يَا أَهْل السَّفِينَة إِنَّ أَبَا دَاوُدَ اِشْتَرَى الْجَنَّة مِنْ اللَّه بِدِرْهَمٍ O passengers of all ships. There was a sound heard like that. Verily, Abu Daud bought heaven from Allah with one dirham. So we try to practice the sunnah. Even though people might look weird, but if it's sunnah, do it. Our intention is because of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. See how Allah knows inside of Abu Daud's heart. With one dirham, he sacrifices then 1 dirham. Just to say yarhamukallah. So if you see people from afar, on the side of the road. You stop first, cross the road. Yarhamukallah. Cool Remember who? Al-Imam Abu Daud As-Sajistani rahumahullahu taala. Alright. Next matter. What if someone sneezes in the middle of salah? Should he say alhamdulillah or no? The scholars say that, even though in prayer, if someone sneezes It is still recommended for him to praises Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Still he said alhamdulillah. Even though in the middle praying. And that does not ruin the prayer. Why? Because he speaks to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala and the arguments for this, there are several hadiths. Among these hadith from, the hadith narrated by Al-Imam Muslim. From a companion of Muawiyah ibn Al-Hakam Al Sulami, he said: بينما أنا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذ عطس رجل من القوم When I was praying, behind the Prophet (ﷺ), along with other companions. Suddenly one among the crowd was sneezing. And the person said alhamdulillah. He sneezed and he said alhamdulillah. Then I answer. I said yarhamukallah. So, someone said alhamdulillah, he said yarhamukallah. When I said yarhamukallah, another companions, the others see me, all of them. Looking at him. I'm annoyed about being watched. فقلت I said: واثُكل أُمِّياه! Woe, the mother lost her child. ما شأنكم "What are you looking at me?" He talked again. What's up, why are you looking at me? ما شأنكم "Why are you looking at me?" All of the companion looked at him. The companions then hit (their tights). Tell him to be quiet. But the companions didn't say "Hey, be quiet." No. Because of speaking in prayer, break the prayer. Then the companions just hitting their thighs so that Muawiyah is silent. When I see they want me to be quiet, then I am silent. Once of the Prophet (ﷺ) finished the prayer, Rasulullah (ﷺ) rebuked Muawiyah. I have never seen a teacher, before the Prophet even after the Prophet. There is one better than the Prophet in teaching. The Prophet did not shout at me, the Prophet did not scold me, the Prophet did not beat me, the Prophet did not scold me. The Prophet only rebuked: إنَّ هذه الصَّلاةَ لا يصلح فيها شيءٌ من كلام الناس O Muawiyah, prayers are not appropriate for conversation between people. Prayers are only suitable for tasbih, takbir and reciting the Qur'an. This is the proposition, the Prophet rebuked him for saying yarhamukallah. But the Prophet did not rebuke the companion who said alhamdulillah. What is the difference? The difference is, if someone sneezes dan says alhamdulillah. He praised Allah. It doesn't break the prayer. Because in prayer we talk to Allah. If we say yarhamukallah, may Allah bless you, it means we talk to people. And the scholars agree, talking to others in prayer, it breaks prayer. We shouldn't talk to other people. But we worship Allah. And between forms of worship, we say alhamdulillah. So it's okay why when someone sneezes say alhamdulillah. Likewise the hadith of Rifa’ah ibn Rofi’. One day I was praying, becoming common sense behind the Prophet (ﷺ). And I sneeze. So I praise Allah, I say: praise be to Allah. When the Prophet (ﷺ) finished praying, the Prophet (ﷺ) asked: مَنِ الْمُتَكَلِّمُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ Who was the one who spoke during the prayer? فلم يتكلم احد Then no one answered. Who was the one who spoke? Who was the one who spoke while praying? Nobody answered. Then the prophet uttered the third time. Who was the one who said when praying? I was the one who spoke. Said the Prophet: How do you say? By Him that my soul is in His hands, indeed more than 35 angels scramble to bring this sentence to be brought to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. This is the argument that when one is in a prayer and he sneezes, he may say thank Allah. No problem. But we who hear must not answer yarhamukallah. yarhamukallah. If not intentional, that's fine. But if you deliberately do it, it breaks the prayer. But if accidentally yes, it's okay. Accidentally. I have a friend at the Prophet's Mosque. He prayed: allahuakbar. There was a child passing by, he held him. The boy grinned, passing again. He held him again. My friend was annoyed. He said: hina. He said: this way. His said it because he was so annoyed. Here. Why that way. Here. While pointing. Alright. We continue the next hadith, the 11th hadith. About the Etiquette of Drinking. From Abu Hurairah radhiallahu anhu he said: قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم Rasulullah (ﷺ) said: لَا يَشْرَبَنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ قَائِمًا Never one of you should drink while standing. Al-Imam Muslim hadith. I repeat the word of the Prophet (ﷺ): لَا يَشْرَبَنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ قَائِمًا Never one of you should drink while standing. This hadith was used as a proposition by some scholars that drinking while standing is forbidden. Because in the rules of ushul fiqh: الاصل في الامر للتحريم The origin law in the prohibition is unlawfulness. But there are other arguments, which indicate that it is permissible to drink while standing. Among these hadiths which were also narrated by Imam Muslim from Ibn Abbas radhiallahu anhuma. I poured zam-zam water on the Prophet (ﷺ), so the Prophet drank the zam-zam water in a standing condition. This was narrated by Ibn Abbas. I poured zam-zam water on the Prophet to drink. The Prophet drank it while standing. This is before I forget. This should not be a misunderstanding. Manyof the hajj pilgrims, umrah pilgrims misunderstood. They thought the sunnah of drinking zam-zam was standing. Nope. But no, it just so happened that the Prophet was given drinking zam-zam water, the Prophet stood up. But that does not mean that the sunnah is drinking zam-zam water. This is a misunderstanding. But explained, the Prophet never drank to stand. Likewise in another hadith narrated by Imam Al Bukhari. From Ali Bin Abi Talib radhiallahu anhu. He once drank standing up. Ali Bin Abi Talib. Then he was given water, he drank while standing. Then he was in Kufa. Then he said to to the Muslims. Surely those people don't like it, one of them drinks when standing up. And indeed I have seen the Prophet (ﷺ) drink standing as you see me drinking standing. As you all see me drinking standing up. Therefore, there is the argument of the Prophet (ﷺ) prohibits drinking standing. And there is an argument that also shows that the Prophet drank to stand. And the friends also practice standing drinking. How to compromise these hadiths? Then there are some opinions among the scholars. Some say that the ban on drinking while standing is already removed. It is permissible to drink while standing. Some say that the law is makruh because the prohibition does not reach the degree of haram. The proof was the Prophet had stood up to explain the permissibility. Means the law of the ban is makruh. Then there is also the opinion that one may drink while standing. It is possible, but what is better is sitting One may drink while standing, but the it is better while sitting. This is like urinating. That the Prophet (ﷺ) always urinate in a sitting condition. As is known by Aisyah radhiyallahu anha. But the Prophet once when outside the house, the Prophet had urinated in a standing condition. And this is the opinion chosen by the scholars. As stated by Ibn Hajar, that drinking while standing is sunnah. Eh, drinking while sitting is sunnah, but if occasionally one drinks while standing. It's ok. It's okay. Drinking while standing is permissible. But the sunnah is in a sitting condition. I repeat. In conclusion, drinking while standing is permissible, but the sunnah is drinking while sitting. Therefore Al-Hafidz ibn Hajar once said: إذا رمت تشرب فاقعد تفز بسنة صفوة أهل الحجاز If you drink, then sit down. Then you will get the sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ). However, the scholars have validated the hadiths which explain the Prophet had drunk while standing and the Prophet did it to explain the permissibility. So the conclusion is the law of drinking. One may drink while standing, but the sunnah is in a sitting condition. Therefore, sometimes we are stuck having to drink while standing. Example, when we do tawaf. After tawaf then we walk for a long time. Then sa'i. We drink zam-zam water. Sometimes we're in rush. Drink while standing. Then also when in Mina. We walk in Mina. The drinking stand is standing. We just push, then we drink while standing. Or we are walking, then people give to drink in the middle of the road. While walking we may drink. As in the history of the words Ibn Umar: كن نَشْرَبُ وَنَحْنُ قِيَامٌ We used to drink when we were standing. And we eat while walking. When Shaykh Sa'ad bin Asy Syatsri hafidzohullahu came to Indonesia. At that time I accompanied him. Then we stop at a hotel. Someone asked the Shaykh. Ask me to translate. Try asking the Shaykh, what does the law of eating while standing? So I say: Shaykh, this person asks you, what is the law of eating while standing? Then the Shaykh stood up, then he walked. While eating. People ask in surprise. He explained, that the law of eating while walking, the law of eating while standing, it is it's permissible, but what is the sunnah? While sitting. Sometimes we are trapped in conditions like that. Or in a rush. Then we don't have time to sit down, so we can eat and drink while walking. As for what is understood by some ordinary people. Saying: you can't eat while standing, it's like an animal. We may imitate animals. And the disbelievers they revel in the face of the earth and they eat as cattle eat. They say: Allah forbids us to follow cattle. Cattle, they stand up when eating. Indeed, no one has ever folded legs and then eaten. All of them stand. What is meant in this verse, is not the "standing" which is forbidden by Allah. But in the lives of the unbelievers, they only think of food. Like animals, they do not think of the afterlife. They only think of food. That is what is meant by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala It is not the way they eat. Alright. Are we continuing? Or are you sleepy already? What time is the sun rises? Six past? Still way ahead. Alright. We continue. The 12th Hadith. This book won't be finished (if we're not continuing). The Etiquette of Wearing Sandals. From Ali ibn Abi Talib radhiallahu taala anhu, he said: قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم Rasulullah (ﷺ) said: إِذَا اِنْتَعَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِالْيَمِينِ If one of you wear sandals, then start wearing sandals with your right foot. If he takes off his sandals, he should open the left foot first. If you start wearing, your right foot first, if you take off, your left foot first. Be the right foot that uses sandals first, وَآخِرَهُمَا تُنْزَعُ and the right foot is the last one to be removed. I repeat. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: إِذَا اِنْتَعَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِالْيَمِينِ If one of you wear sandals, then start wearing sandals on your right foot first. If he takes off his sandals, then take off the left foot first. Make the right foot the first time wearing sandals. And make the right foot also the last to open the sandals. Alright. This hadith is a shahih hadith narrated by Imam Muslim and others. It was also narrated by Imam Malik and Abu Dawud. This hadith explains about the Sunnah of the Prophet. In general, the Prophet likes to put the right things first on good matters. Among the good matters is wearing sandals. In the hadith Aisyah radhiallahu anha once said: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُعْجِبُهُ التَّيَمُّنُ فِي تَنَعُّلِهِ وَتَرَجُّلِهِ وَطُهُورِهِ وَفِي شَأْنِهِ كُلِّهِ The Prophet (ﷺ) likes to put the right one first when wearing sandals, when combing hair, when washing, and in all matters. The Prophet (ﷺ) used right foot first when wearing sandals. The Prophet (ﷺ), combed his right head first. So do you. Right first, then left. After all, everyday you comb, everyday you use sandals. Look for merit. Combs can be rewarded. How do you get a reward from combing? The right side of the head first. When take ablution. The Prophet washed right first then left. The Prophet when taking a bath also. Right body part first then left body part. Threre're reward in thins. In all things good. Enter the right foot first when entering a mosque. In what we think is good, glorification, we put the right one first. Therefore there're opinions among the scholars. For siwak, which one is better? Use the right hand or left hand? Then there a opinions. Some say use your left hand. Why? Siwak is for cleaning. When cleaning, use the left hand. Some say: No. Siwak is a matter that is loved by Allah. Then use your right hand. The point is that the scholars agree that for good things, then prioritizing the right. Even the Prophet (ﷺ) if shaving hair, he shaved the right first. When Rasulullah (ﷺ) threw jamarot, after that Rasulullah (ﷺ) ordered the barber to shave his hair. Then the first one was shaved off the right side of the head of the Prophet (ﷺ). Shaved off. After shaving, then only the left head. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) gave his hair to Abu Talha to be distributed to friends, because the Prophet's hair have blessing. So basically, the Prophet shaved first right, then left. I always remember reading this hadith about shaving, about me and my friend. When we're in hajj time, a few years ago. After we throw Jamarot on the 10th of Dhulhijjah, there is a shaving place. But the official shave if I'm not mistaken 35 real. 10 real for unofficial shaves. But there is a risk. If there are police, the barber will run away. We didn't have a problem of money, the problem is that the queues are long. The official shaver had an extremely long queue. Finally I told my friend. How? are we the official or this one? Let's just have this one. So we can be quick. Alright. There was a student there, a barber, an African. Who first? Ustadh first, Ustadh first. Alright. Respect the ustadh. I was first. I was already bald, then my friend. His hair was shaved only the right part, the police came. The barber ran away. Finally, remain the other only half. Finally he covered it using ihram cloth. Then he walked, he continued the shaving in the tent. It is sunnah, but. But only half. Alright. Likewise, the matter with wearing sandals. So, everyday we wear sandals anyway. So a person should look for reward in his daily life he. How to do it? When he use sandals, put on the right foot first, take off the left foot first. Our habits, when I practiced this hadith for the first time, it was rather difficult. My habits or habits of many brothers, if you put on the right foot first, if you take off the right foot too. Try later you see your habits. Your habit, you put on the right foor first, and take off also right foot first. But made it alternates like this. Put on the right foot first, if you take off the left foot first. It's a bit difficult. But eventually one will get used to it. But Subhanallah, once we take off the left first, we remember the sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ). So thank Allah, we get the reward. We do it everyday and we get the reward from Allah subhanahu wa taala. Easy. Now we just need to set the way we use sandals. If you use the right sandals first, if you take the left first. And indeed early on, later you will feel the difficulties. You will usually use the right first, take off the right first too. But it turns out the Prophet taught, not so. He taught us to use the right sandals first, and take off the left first. But this is a sunnah, not mandatory. If someone were to wear a left foot sandals first, it would be okay. And this is a sunnah. Get merit from Allah subhanahu wa taala. Alright This is our study. If anyone wants to ask, I invite. Wallahu ta’ala a’lam bishawab. If the question is written, it is better . Question: Assalamualaikum Ustadh, waalaikumussalam. What is the ruling on saying greetings in work meetings where there are non-Muslims, with the intention of greeting only you. I said earlier. I said earlier. It's permissible. And this was done by the Prophet. When the Prophet passed (أخْلاَطٌ مِنَ الناس) a group of people. There are some friends, there are some idol worshipers. So the Prophet continued to say salaam. But with the aim to the Muslims. So that's okay for us to say: assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. If we doubt, then say Good Morning, no problem. If we say assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Then the others got angry. "Why are there no words of other religions!" Then we don't need to combine salaam with other religious salutations. Enough to say: Good morning. How are you? "I'm good" It is okay. Because some people now like to question. This is Shari'a. It is not appropriate for those who associate partners with Allah, who worship statue, worship idols, worship human, and we said salvation upon you? How they survived, while they associate parners with Rabbul ‘alamin, associate partners with the Creator of this universe. They worship the statue, to humans, who do not deserve to be worshiped. Other gorup of unbelievers, besides Jews and Christians, a pply the same law? Yes, some scholars said, if it is not acceptable to the people of the book, it's even more to other than them. The people of the book, they worship Allah subhanahu wa taala. Jews worship Allah, Christians worship Allah. It's just that they do shirk. There is no salvation for them. And they are infidels who are better than idol worshipers, than sun worshipers, than fire worshipers, than animal worshipers, than stone worshipers. The Jews and Christians are better, if you think about it, viewed from the shirk they do. Their shirk is still better. For them, we should not say Assalamualaikum. Even more, to non-Muslims, non-believers besides Jews and Christians. I want to ask, Ustadh. Does it have to be in the jahr prayer, may a congregant read Al-Fatihah or may not? For me, I am more calm when I do not read, during jahr prayer. This is indeed opinions among the scholars. As I recall, the madzhab of syafi'iyyah still requires one to read Al-Fatihah, even though he is a congregant in the jahr prayer. For example in Maghrib prayer, Isha prayer, Fajr prayer. But I am more inclined to the opinion of the schools of Hanabilah, If a person has become a congregant and the Imam reads loudly Then he no longer needs to read. It's enough for him to listen to the Imam's reading. Why? Because the imam read to whom? The imam reads to the congregant. If the imam reads to Allah, no need to read out loud. Understand? The imam reads, to be listened by who? The congregation The imam has read Al-Fatihah, Amin Alif Lam Mim dzalikal Kitabu la. Then we are busy reading (Al-Fatihah). First we do not listen to the Imam's reading. Secondly we do not concentrate. Yes or no? So what for? Therefore Ibn Taymiyah rahumahullahu in in Syarlu Umda. A little hard on this issue. He is rather hard in this matter. To say no, if one becomes a congregant, then reads behind the imam. But surely, I say, this is a matter of various opinions. But I am more inclined to the opinion, that congregation, it's enough for them to listen to the imam's reading. And the imam is indeed read to be heard by the congregation. If if he was read to be heard by Allah, then he would simply read with softly. He read aloud so that we can hear, so that he can be listened to properly. Then, it does not reach the goal, if the priest reads the surah, then we read the Fatihah behind him. We don't concentrate on reading Al-Fatihah, secondly we don't even hear what the Imam is reading. If so, why should the imam read. So the stronger opinion, Allah knows best, is that when the Imam reads, if he has read the Fatihah and is reading a surah, we listen. Unless, for example the Imam, after reading the Fatihah, he is silent, as some Imams do, even though it is not sunnah, but he is silent. 00:58:51,959 --> 00:58:51,822 Instead of being stunned, we read Al-Fatihah, it is okay. But if he finished reading Al-Fatihah, then he directly reads a surah, then we listen. No need to read al-Fatihah behind the Imam. Allah knows best. I forgot. So if we send a letter to non-Muslims, we cannot say assalamualaikum. Should not. But we may say wassalamu ala manittaba'al huda. Assalamu ala manittaba'al huda. Salvation for those who follow guidance. Means that salvation, the greeting, requires that he follow, what? the guidance Like the Prophet when sending a letter to Heroclius. As the Prophet Moses said to Pharaoh. Wassalam ala manittaba'al huda. As also in other narration, when the Prophet sent a letter to Musailamah Al-Kadzab. Assalamu ala manittaba'al huda. Safety for those who follow guidance. If you don't follow the guidance, you don't get salvation. Earlier mentioned, that when praying, talking to human breaks prayers. What if we, beside us, have small children who are sometimes noisy, twitching, then we remind them by hand gestures. No problem. But don't say: Shut up. Well that can't be. But if we hold, it's okay. We remind with a gesture, it is okay. Please provide information regarding the book of Syarh Kitabul Jami 'being used. Actually this is my lectures, then it was transcribed by friends, then they make a book from it. I took it from various books. This is not a book of scholars. This is just a transcript of the lecture that I gave. Finally they make a book from it. But there are many of Explanation of Kitabul Jami'. The last one I heard, the Explanation from Sheikh Bin Baz rahimahullahu taala, but I have not read the book, Syarah Kitabul Jami '. Among the good ones is the explanation from As-Son'ani in his book Subulus Salam. Because Kitabul Jami’ this is the last part of the Book of Bulughul Maram. Well, if you read the explanation of Bulughul Maram, there must be an explanation about Kitabul Jami' in the last section. Alright. Someone wants to ask directly? Yes, please. Assamualaikum Ustadh./ Waalaikumussalam. Saying salaam is recommended to all Muslims. Yes But this habit has not gone well, so often fellow Muslims just say good morning and so on. Try giving the mic, let others hear. Repeat from the beginning. It can be heard already. The test is passed. So saying salaam, sunnah. But many have not done it. When we meet our brother we clearly know he is a Muslim. Then he first congratulated for example, good morning onwards. If then may I reply with waalaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh? If he says good morning to us, it's good that we say assalamualaikum. Do not say waalaikumussalam. We say assalamualaikum. Remind him and he will answer with waalaikumussalam. If we know for sure he is a Muslim. Preferably so. He said good morning, we remind him. We say assalamualaikum. Do not say waalaikumussalam. Alright. Anyone else want to ask? What time is the sun rises? Already? So does that mean that the study is over? Yes please. Give the mic. Assamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh. Waalaikumussalam. Ustadz, I want to ask. When someone sneezes, we answer it with yarhamukallah yes. Yarhamukallah has been said, but he did not answer. yahdikumullah wa yushlihu walakum. May I rebuke or what? You may. I already prayed for you, how come you didn't pray for me? It's okay. Rebuke in a good way. If he already starting studying the deen, insha Allah, he will not be angry. If he is angry, it means that there's something wrong in his study. Enough. That is our study. Insha Allah, we continue on another opportunity. Subhanaka wabihamdika asyhadu allaa ilaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atuubu ilaika Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
