Something that everyone believes in
is that ...
... we will not be forever
in this earth.
Our age is limited.
The Apostle ﷺ said:
“The ages of (the people in) my nation
will be between sixty and seventy.”
“And few of them will exceed that.”
Many people around us ...
... died when they reached
60 - 70 years old.
And it will also be our turn.
And many people die ...
... without notice.
Without any sign.
As a poet said ...
Commit to God-consciousness.
You do not know...
... when evening comes,
whether you live until tomorrow.
O how many people decease ...
... without having any disease.
O how many brides prepare their make-up ...
... for their grooms ...
... while their shroud is being prepared
and she has not assumed.
O how many young men
laughing in the morning ...
... and in the evening.
And when night descends,
in a burial his body ends.
When one dies ...
... he leaves all he has had.
The only thing accompanying him
is his righteous deeds.
The Apostle ﷺ said:
“A dead person is followed by three.”
“His family.”
“His wealth.”
“And his deeds.”
“Then two of them come back.”
“There remain only his deeds."’
While his family, his wife and children ...
... whom he loves
and who love him ...
... will not want to be buried along
with him.
They will leave him in his grave.
And his property.
His saving, his assistants, his cars ...
All will leave him.
The only thing remains is his deeds.
He will be in the realm of barzakh [life between
our world and Hereafter] for a long time.
Waiting for the Day of Resurrection.
It might be a hundred years.
It might be five years.
Without any friend.
Only his deeds.
Therefore, we have to prepare ourselves
for that moment.
We will arrive at that moment.
Alone in the realm of barzakh.
Some have said that a person should
prepare himself ...
... to encounter that moment ...
... by getting used ...
...to be alone when worshiping Allah SWT.
We are happy when we gather
with our friends in this world.
We are happy when we are together ...
... with our family,
our wives and children.
But we have to prepare our selves,
making an agenda ...
... to find happiness when we are alone.
Because we will encounter that moment.
Alone in the realm of barzakh
for a long time.
Neither friend nor relatives
will accompany us.
Thus, we are recommended to do deeds ...
... that train ourselves to be alone
with Allah, alone doing righteous deeds.
By doing itikaf [isolation in a mosque
to solely dedicating time to worship Allah].
The Apostle ﷺ urged ...
... to do itikaf on the last 10 nights
during Ramadan.
We get used ourselves to be alone,
to supplicate Allah when we are alone.
To read the Quran and remembering Allah
when we are alone.
After spending our time for worldly matter
in our daily life.
We urge ourselves to be alone
with Allah SWT.
This is also recommended ...
... in a well known hadith
about seven groups of people ...
... who will be shaded by Allah SWT.
The Apostle ﷺ said:
“Seven people will be shaded by Allah
on the Day of Resurrection.”
In the Land of Assembly, when the sun is
only a mile away ...
... when there will be no shade
except His.”
Among others, the Apostle ﷺ said:
“Two men who love each other in Allah ...
... and meet for that and part for that.”
They meet because of Allah.
They are happy being together.
Because they gather for Allah.
But there are times
They part for Allah SWT.
Some say because they spend their times
to worship Allah alone.
Each has to read the Quran,
to do the night prayers.
Each has to worship Allah alone.
If they often meet their friends,
when can they be alone with Allah SWT?
As we try to find happiness with others ...
... we shall try to find it
when we are alone.
As the Apostle ﷺ said:
Among these people are ...
The Apostle ﷺ said:
“A man who remembers Allah
when he is alone.”
“And his eyes overflow with tears.”
“Because he remembers
Allah SWT's greatness.”
He remembers his sins.
When he remembers his sins,
he is in tears.
Because he is afraid of Allah SWT.
He also remembers Allah’s greatness.
Allah SWT the Great.
He remembers Allah's characters.
He remembers Allah SWT’s blessings.
And he is in tears.
He is longing to meet Allah SWT.
He feels the pleasure to be alone.
In addition, it is also recommended
to do night prayers.
The Apostle ﷺ said:
“Pray at night when people are asleep."
"And you will enter Paradise in peace.”
Someone wakes up struggling
against sleepiness when his wife is asleep.
When his children are asleep.
Then he performs ablution, gets up
and worshiped Allah SWT.
Supplicating Allah SWT quietly.
He will feel the pleasure
of seclusion with Allah SWT.
Even more so when he choses
the last third of the night.
When Allah descends to the world.
The Prophet ﷺ said in an authentic hadith:
Allah SWT ajja wazalla descends
to the world one third last night.
And Allah says:
Who supplicates Me
so that I may answer him?
"Who asks Me forgiveness
so that I may forgive him?"
"Who asks Me
so that I may give to him?"
Allah is looking for His servants
who struggle against their sleepiness.
Fighting against the pleasure he is having.
He wakes up to seek for another pleasure.
The pleasure of seclusion with Allah SWT.
My fellow Muslims,
may Allah SWT bless you.
We shall strive to get used to
seclusion with Allah SWT.
To train ourselves to feel
the pleasure of seclusion.
When we travel, open the Quran.
Find the pleasure while reading the Quran.
Know that it is our deeds that will
accompany us in the realm of barzah ...
... where we are alone.
With no one accompanies us. Our children,
wives, and friends will leave us.
Some people are pious.
They feel the pleasure
of seclusion with Allah SWT.
Some prefer to have fun ...
... by committing sins against Allah SWT
when they are alone.
Alone with their Internet.
Alone with their computer.
Alone with their mobile.
And they have fun doing
what Allah SWT forbids.
The Apostle ﷺ reminded us
about this danger.
In a hadith narrated by
Ibnu Maja.
From Tsauba RA:
The Apostle ﷺ said:
“I certainly know people of my nation ...
... who will come
on the Day of Resurrection ...
... with good deeds
like the mountains of Tihamah.
As great as the mountains of Tihamah.
“But Allah will make them ...
... like scattered dust.”
The companions asked:
“Who are they O Messenger of Allah?”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“They will be people who,
when they are alone ...
... transgress the sacred limits of Allah.”
Thus, one shall be ashamed
facing Allah SWT.
Be certain that Allah sees him.
What he does,
what he sees.
What he writes.
All will be recorded by Allah SWT.
Allah is indeed Most Forgiving.
When one repents to Allah SWT ...
... his sins are forgiven.
But most scholars have said ...
... that although our sins
are forgiven by Allah SWT ...
... its records will be shown to us.
A salaf said ...
“My sins are so shameful.”
“Even though You have forgiven them.”
A servant will be resuscitated ...
... and be judged by Allah SWT ...
... and will be exposed to ...
... all the sins he has done
when he is alone.
He uses his eyes to see
unlawful things.
He transgress the sacred limits of Allah
when he is alone.
He shows himself as a pious person
in front of others.
But when he is alone, he transgresses
the sacred limits of Allah SWT.
We pray that Allah makes us His faithful
and pious servants.
Whether we are among other people
or when we are alone.
