His servants, is to have a tongue, to utter words, which differentiates human and animals. Have We not made for him two eyes? And a tongue and two lips? And with this tongue, he can obtain rewards as many as he can, his rank is elevated as high as it can be beside Allah SWT. A man utters a word, pleasing to Allah SWT, without considering it of any significance, and it turns out that with his word, Allah SWT elevates his rank as high as it can be. With his tongue, a person can recite Allah’s names, as said by the Apostle ﷺ: لاَ يَزالُ لِسَانُكَ رَطْباً مِنْ ذِكْرِ اللهِ “You shall always keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah SWT. With his tongue he can read the Holy Quran, Reciting it day and night. With his tongue, he can preach. And who is better in speech than one who invites ... ... to Allah and does righteousness? On the contrary, if we don’t hold our tongue it can be very dangerous. And it is even more dangerous than any other body parts. Therefore, the Apostle ﷺ said: المسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ المسْلِمُوْنَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ "A true Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue or his hands. In this hadith the Apostle ﷺ ... ... put first “harming with tongue” than with hands. Because the tongue is more dangerous. Although a tongue is small, its activity is fast, and its outreach is broad. As for hands and feet they are limited in their actions. They can only bother the person in front of them. They cannot reach him if he is far. As for tongue, it can say things quickly, and it can reach people who are from the country it lives in, even the dead. All with the tongue. Hence, there are a lot of big sins, caused by the tongue. For example, a lie. Lying is a big sin. You have to be careful with lies, for lies lead to wickedness, and wickedness leads to Hell. And if a man continues to speak lies, وَيَتَحَرَّى الْكَذِبَ and makes lies his object, حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَذَّابًا he will be recorded as a liar before Allah.” It is likewise with ghibah. It is a big sin. Gossiping, speaking ill of others. It is also a big sin. Namimah, bring people to conflict. Spreading the hatred among the Muslims. It is also a big sin. Saying about religions without knowledge. You say about Allah that which you do not know. It is also a big sin. And there are a lot of big sins, causing a person to enter Hell because of his tongue. Hence, the Apostle ﷺ said, A servant, speaks a word without considering it, of any importance, displeasing to Allah, and for this reason he will sink down into Hell. Abu Bakr RA stuck out his tongue. He held his tongue, and said: “This tongue has brought me ... ... to making many mistakes.” Hence the Apostle ﷺ said to Mu’ad Bin Jabbar RA. “Keep your tongue in control." And Mu’ad asked. "يَا نَبِىَّ اللَّه, “وَإِنَّا لَمُؤَاخَذُونَ بِمَا نَتَكَلَّمُ بِهِ “O Messenger of Allah, shall we ... ... we really be accounted for what we talk about?" People will be thrown ... ... on their faces into the Hell ... ... on account of their tongues, of what they say.” Hopefully Allah SWT keep us away ... ... bad things caused by our tongue. There is a good deed that we forget. A good deed that is as noble as speaking good. It is to be silent from bad saying. The Apostle ﷺ said in a shahih hadith: مَنْ صَمَتَ نَجَا "Whoever is silent, he is saved." The Apostle ﷺ said: مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّه وَالْيَوْمِ اْلآخِرِ فَليَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَصْمُت “He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, that he believes that he is accountable ... of what he does, of what he says, he shall speak good.” أَوْ لِيَصْمُت “If he cannot speak good, he shall remain silent.” If one says that speaking is silver, Then we shall say that silence is gold. Remember, all things we say are recorded by the Angels. مَا يَلْفِظُ مِنْ قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ “Man does not utter any word, except that with him is an observer prepared [to record].” اَمۡ یَحۡسَبُوۡنَ اَنَّا لَا نَسۡمَعُ سِرَّہُمۡ وَ نَجۡوٰىہُمۡ ؕ بَلٰی وَ رُسُلُنَا لَدَیۡہِمۡ یَکۡتُبُوۡنَ “Do they think that We hear not ... ... their secrets and their private conversations? Yes, [We do], and Our messengers are with them recording.” Today, my Fellow Muslims may Allah SWT bless you, many people like to comment. They comment on anything. For any news they receive, they share them without filtering them. Without verifying them whether they are true or false. I would like to remind you that the scholars have explained. Writing is the same as utterance, writing is the same as utterance. Just like we shall be careful with what we say, we shall also be careful with what we write. A lot of agreements take place without any conversation. There are a lot of online transactions only by ... ... pressing enter. Only by writing. A lot of agreements take place with no conversation. We sign and we are done. Hence, conversation has the same weigh as writing, and writing has the same weigh as conversation. Just like one shall be careful with what he says, he shall also be careful, with what he writes. Today, there are a lot of things that push us to comment. That is human nature, their passion to comment on things. And, it is sad to see, disputes taking place in the social media. People insulting one another, diminishing one another, Accusing each other, spreading hoax. Be careful. All of these can take us to Hell. In a hadith from Imam Al Bukhari, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a person being punished severely in his grave. What is his punishment? He sits and comes someone, with a sharp object, tearing his lips, to his throat, from the right side. Then this person move to the left side. Then this person move to the left side, tearing his left mouth to his chest. Once his left part is torn to his throat, the right part is healed. And he moves to the right side, and tears again, the left side is healed, and it continues until the Resurrection Day. And the Apostle asked, “Who is this person?” Then the Apostle ﷺ had the answer. As the person you see, with his mouth torn ... to his throat, was a liar, conveying falsehood, was a liar, conveying falsehood. And he spread the lies, to the world. And this is his punishment until the Resurrection Day. Now, spreading hoax is so easy. At that time, spreading hoax was difficult. There was no any communication means. A person had to hire a liar, who had to walk with his horse or his camel here and there to spread hoax. But now, one can say a lie. And he posts it in the social media, upload it on YouTube, and the hoax is spread all over the world. He will sink down into Hell. “Do not let the hatred of a people, prevent you from being just.” We shall not lie on them, nor speaking ill of them. We shall be careful. Times fly, events pass, but what we say, all of our records, are kept by Allah. And we shall be accountable in the Resurrection Day. Hopefully, Allah SWT will guard our tongue, And keep us away from the things ... ... that can sink us to Hell. One shall be careful. Remember what the Apostle ﷺ said. A good Muslim, shall leave out what is not his business. If you are expert in the matter, you may speak. Comment, analyze. But if you are not, nor you have any data, then you shall keep your tongue. Keep your tongue. Once you say things, they can’t be drawn. They are recorded by the Angels. And will be revealed to us in the Resurrection Day.
