And a study about Allah SWT ... ... is the noblest knowledge ... ... because the subject being studied is Allah’s names and characters. Thus, no knowledge ... ... that makes a servant faster ... ... in being righteous toward Allah ... ... in having khasyiah toward Allah ... ... in having more fear toward Allah ... ... in being passionate to worship Allah ... ... in longing more to meet Him .. ... others than knowledge about Allah’s characters and His names that are husna [beautiful] معاشر المسلمين Among Allah’s beautiful names ... ... There is الشَّكُورُ [Asy-Syakuur]. الشَّكُورُ is mentioned four times in the Quran. Among other, Allah SWT revealed: وَمَنْ يَقْتَرِفْ حَسَنَةً نَزِدْ لَهُ فِيهَا حُسْنًا ۚ إِنَّه غَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ And whoever commits a good deed ... ... we will increase for him good therein. "Verily, Allah SWT is غَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and شَكُور Appreciative. In another verse of Allah SWT, إِنْ تُقْرِضُوا اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا يُضَاعِفْهُ لَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ شَكُورٌ حَلِيمٌ “If you lend Allah a goodly loan ... He will multiply it for you.” And the same thing with Allah’s servants who enter the Heaven. وَقَالُوا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّه الَّذِي أَذْهَبَ عَنَّا الْحَزَنَ ۖ إِنَّ رَبَّنَا لَغَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ When they enter the Heaven, they feel comfort ... ... Hence they praise Allah SWT. And they will say, "Praise to Allah, who has removed from us [all] sorrow.” Indeed our Rabb is لَغَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ Forgiving and Appreciative. الشَّكُورُ [Asy-Syakuur] Most Appreciative. In another verse, Allah SWT said: “That He may give them in full their rewards.” “And increase for them of His bounty.” Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and شَكُور Appreciative. What does Allah is شَكُورٌ? Most Thankful, Most Appreciative. If we talk about being grateful among servants, we understand. A servant being grateful to Allah or to other servants. A servant is said to be grateful to Allah ... .. If he thank Allah by worshipping Allah SWT. He remembers Allah by doing prayers, giving charity. By worshipping Allah. Then this servant is called a شَكُورٌ servant. And Allah mentions it in many verses. إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ “Indeed in that are signs ... ... for everyone ... ... صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ patient and grateful." We understand this meaning of “syukur”, We also understand the meaning of grateful when a servant is grateful to others. When someone does good to us, we pay him back. Then we are called a grateful and thankful person. We pay back good deed with good deed. That is being grateful among servants, or from a servant toward Allah SWT. But there is another meaning of syukur that is greater than that. That Allah SWT is grateful toward His servants. What does Allah being thankful and grateful toward His servants mean? We mentioned earlier that there are four verses. In these verses, Allah characterizes Himself with شَكُورٌ. Most Thankful, Most Appreciative. The scholars have mentioned the meaning of Allah's شَكُورٌ to His servants. First. It means that, Allah SWT is Appreciative ... ... of His servants’ deeds no matter how small they are. Even though it is tiny, Allah will reward it. وَمَنْ تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ “And whoever volunteers good, as tiny as it can be ... Any good deed, فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ Allah will reward him. Allah SWT said, فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ “Whoever does an atom's weight of good...” An atom is extremely light. يَرَهُ”, he will see the reward." Allah will reward good deeds, despite its petiteness. The Apostle ﷺ said: اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ ‘Protect yourselves from the Fire, even with half a date.” Thus, among the consequence of His character of شَكُورٌ, ... His beautiful name, شَكُورٌ, Allah will reward a good deed, despite its petiteness. Lukman said to his son, “O My son!” “Indeed if wrong should be the weight of a mustard seed ...” “And should it be within a rock ... ... or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, ... Allah will bring it forth.” Allah will bring it forth. This is different with what human understands most. How many people do small good things to us ... ... that we do not consider it to be thankful for. We consider it as something normal. Sometime, we do good to others ... ... and they do not thank us. We think that it is not necessary to be thankful for that sort. But not Allah. No matter how little your smile is ... ... that might be considered nothing for others ... ... it is valuable in the sight of Allah SWT. Because Allah isالشَّكُورُ [Asy-Syakuur] Most Appreciative. This is the first meaning. The second meaning of Allah’s name, الشَكُورٌ ... Allah SWT will reward it in many times over. In many times over. He will multiply it for you. Like in other verses that we have mentioned. These verses mention that Allah multiplies the reward. We will increase for him good therein. Allah does not only reward what His slave does. In a hadith narrated by Al Bukhari and Muslim ... Allah has written down the good deeds and the bad ones. Then Allah explained it. The Apostle ﷺ said: فَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا “Whosoever intended to perform a good deed ... ... but did not do it ... He did not do it, he only intended to do it. “Allah writes it down Himself as a complete good deed.” فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا “If he did perform it ...” كَتَبَهَا اللهُ عِنْدَهُ “Allah writes it down Himself ... ... as from ten good deeds ... إِلَى سَبْعِمِائَةِ ضِعْفٍ ... up to seven hundred times ... إِلَى أَضْعَافٍ كَثِيْرَةٍ ...up to many times multiplied.” As Allah SWT wishes. وَإِنْ هَمَّ بِسَيِّئَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا “And if he intended to perform an evil deed, but did not do it ...” كَتَبَهَا اللهُ عِنْدَهُ حَسَنَةً كَامِلَةً “Then Allah writes it down with Himself as a complete good deed. If bad intention is not performed, it is noted as a good deed. What more do you want from Allah SWT? Allah SWT will reward it in many times multiplied. We just passed the Ramadan. Imagine, when people worship Allah in the night of lailatul qadr. Just one night, about ten hours, it is valued ... ... as deeds of over 83 years. Allah multiplied it by hundred thousandth fold. “Doing umrah in Ramadan ... فَإِنَّ عُمْرَةً فِى رَمَضَانَ كَحَجَّةً مَعِى ... is like doing hajj with the Apostle ﷺ. So, when Allah rewards good deeds ... ... He rewards more than what we do. The good deeds we do. This is one form of Allah SWT's شَكُورٌ . We can rarely find this among human being. If we do good to a man, he will repay as it is. Or its like. Rarely more than what we do. But when Allah rewards, He rewards more than what we do. The third. Allah SWT شَكُورٌ. He rewards goodness to His servants. While Allah does not need them. We thank a person for his contribution to us. But what is our contribution to Allah SWT? Nothing. Whoever does goodness, it is in fact for himself. وَمَنْ يَشْكُرْ فَإِنَّمَا يَشْكُرُ لِنَفْسِهِ And whoever is obedient to Allah ... ... grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. إِنْ أَحْسَنْتُمْ أَحْسَنْتُمْ لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ "If you do good, you do good for yourselves.” Allah does not need our obedience. Allah does not need our Quran recitation, our prostration, our prayers, our charity. All of those will return to ourselves. يَا عِبَادِى لَوْ أَنَّ أَوَّلَكُمْ وَآخِرَكُمْ وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجِنَّكُمْ كَانُوا عَلَى أَتْقَى قَلْبِ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُمْ مَا زَادَ ذَلِكَ فِى مُلْكِى شَيْئًا Allah said, “O My servants ...” “Were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you ... ... to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, ... were your heart, all of you is like the heart of the Apostle Muhammad ﷺ, that would not increase My kingdom in anything.” Allah does not need our worship. Allah does need us, but still Allah rewards our goodness. What more do we want from Allah SWT? Among Allah SWT's شَكُورٌ-... Allah even rewards His enemies. The unbelievers, the non-Muslims. Those who associate Allah SWT. Those who hate the Apostle Muhammad ﷺ the Messenger of Allah SWT. Those who insult Allah SWT’s religion. If they do good, they will reward them. In this world, Allah grants them good. Allah rewards those who are good. Allah facilitates their affairs, if they are good. In the Hereafter, punishment will not be added according to ... ... the good deeds they do. Even to Allah’s enemies, Allah is kind to them Among Allah's appreciation to His slaves ... Allah SWT has prepared ... ... everything for His servants to be obedient to Allah SWT. Allah facilitates him to have faith. Allah facilitates him to reside near a place to study Islam. Allah moves his legs to go to the mosque to attend a preach. Allah opens his ears so that he can hear Allah’s words. Allah adds faith in his heart. Allah widens his sustenance so that he can give charity. Allah gives him everything. But still, Allah says that these are his deeds. And Allah rewards them. While everything is from Allah. But as if it is His servant who does those. And Allah puts those deeds on the servant. “Those are My servant’s deeds.” And Allah rewards him, while Allah is the One who prepares everything. The last one, Among Allah's appreciation to His slaves ... When Allah SWT rewards His servant’s good deeds ... Allah rewards with all kinds of comfort. In the world and in the Hereafter. With unimaginable happiness. Allah even grants what His servant asks ... ... and what His servant does not ask. Allah knows best what is good for His servants. Plenty of comfort that Allah grants us in this world and the Hereafter. Sometimes we are aware, but mostly we are not aware. We pray that Allah makes us grateful servants. أقول قولي هذا واستغفر الله لي ولكم ولسائر المسلمين من ذنب وخطيئة فأستغفره إنه هو الغفور الرحيم الحمد لله على إحسانه، والشكر له على توفيقه وامتنانه، وأشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له تعظيما لشأنه، وأشهد أن محمدا عبده ورسوله الداعي إلى رضوانه، أللهم صلي عليه وعل أله وأصحابه وإخوانه معاشر المسلمين When we know little about the essence of Allah’s name, الشَكُورٌ, Most Thankful, Most Appreciative, Then we should have more love towards Allah SWT. Moreover in many verses, Allah puts together ... ... His name الشَكُورٌ with غَفُورٌ. إِنَّهُ غَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ إِنَّ اللَّه غَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ In many verses, Allah puts together غَفُورٌ with شَكُورٌ. Hence, when the residents of Heaven, enters Heaven ... ... when they feel all kinds of comfort in Heaven ... ... they praise Allah. الْحَمْدُ لِلَّه الَّذِي أَذْهَبَ عَنَّا الْحَزَنَ ۖ "Praise to Allah, who has removed from us [all] sorrow.” And they say ... إِنَّ رَبَّنَا لَغَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ “Indeed, Our Lord is Forgiving and Appreciative.” Ghafur, Allah forgive our sins as big as they can be. And Syakuur, Allah rewards our good deeds as tiny as they can be. What is important is that we are sincere towards Allah SWT. The Apostle mentioned about a woman. This woman ask food to Aisha RA. Aisha only found a date. She gave this date to the woman. And she ... She divided the date into two. She gave these halves to her two daughters. A very simple deed. Providing food to one’s children. Half date, half date. Nevertheless, the Apostle ﷺ remarked... مَنِ ابْتُلِيَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْبَنَاتِ “ Whoever is tested something from these daughters ...” كُنَّ لَهُ سِتْرًا مِنَ النَّار “These daughters will be a screen them from the Fire.” When a person is sincere, even if he does only a little ... Heaven is his reward from Allah SWT. There was a story about a woman ... ... who committed adultery. One day, she felt sorry for a dog and she ... ... went down into a well to take some water and gave it to the dog. A very simple deed. But does Allah ignore it? Allah never ignores. This action takes only five minute. But when we do it sincerely for Allah SWT ... Allah rewards it in many times multiple. Allah forgave her sins. Then a story about a man who was walking and saw ... ... thorns on the street. He did not want others step on these thorns. So, he put them away. This action takes only a minute. A footstep or two. But if the person is sincere towards Allah SWT ... ... Allah will reward him as big as it can be. Therefore, we have to realize that ... ... Our Lord loves us more than our own parents. We, as a parent, really love our child. When he succeeds, we are proud and happy. We give him present. Allah is much more than that. If Allah knows that we are sincere ... Allah knows that we are doing good, Allah will reward us many times over. Because Allah loves His servants ... ... more than a mother loves her children.
