The meaning of Ad Duha...
There are two interpretations
among the scholars.
Some say that Ad Dhuha is
the time of Dhuha.
The time of dhuha that we know, that is
a quarter of an hour after the sun rises.
That we know as shuruk,
that is the meaning of dhuha.
It is the beginning when the sun starts
to rise and illuminates the world.
Then it ends about 7 minutes
before the dhuhur [day pray].
That is the time of dhuha.
It starts from a quarter
of an hour from the sunrise.
Until about 7 - 10 minutes before dhuhur.
That is dhuha.
This is the first opinion. The second says
that ad dhuha here means...
...day time. By day.
Sometimes, when Allah says Ad Dhuha,
Allah means day time.
The argument comes from surat Al A'raf,
Allah SWT said:
أَفَأَمِنَ أَهْلُ الْقُرَىٰ
أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ بَأْسُنَا بَيَاتًا
وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ
"Did the people of the cities
feel secure...
...from Our punishment coming
to them at night while they were asleep?
أَوَأَمِنَ أَهْلُ الْقُرَىٰ
أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ بَأْسُنَا ضُحًى
وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ
"Or did the people of the cities
feel secure...
...from Our punishment coming to them
in the morning...
...while they were at play?"
Dhuha here means day time.
Because Allah's punishment to a group people...
...may come at night or day time.
But sometimes Allah expresses
day time with dhuha.
Among the arguments saying that
dhuha here means day time ...
Allah said, وَالضُّحٰىۙ
وَالَّيۡلِ اِذَا سَجٰىۙ
By time of dhuha, By night.
And the opposite of night is day time.
So dhuha here means day time.
This is the opinion among the experts
in interpretation.
وَالضُّحٰىۙ here is equal to
وَالنَّهَارِ [day time]
By day,
وَالضُّحٰىۙ أَي النَّهَارِ
It is called dhuha,
because it is the beginning of day time.
So that is why it is expressed with dhuha,
to represent the whole day time.
It is an opinion.
