Indeed, among the worship practices that are tremendously great, Related to our heart, is to have good faith to Allah SWT. To have good faith to our Creator. Who have blessed us with sustenance. Who facilitate all of our affairs. Do good; for Allah loves those who do good. Ibn Jarir Al Tabari rahimahullah, In his tafsir mentioned the story from Ikrimah, He interpreted this verse. Do Good That is have a good belief in Allah SWT. The Prophet ﷺ had said in his hadith: None of you should court death, unless he has good expectations from Allah". In the hadith Qudsi, Allah SWT had said: I am to my slave as he thinks of Me, Therefore, my Slave may have any thought on how he wants to think of Me. If he thinks good of Me, he will have it. If he thinks evil of Me, he will have it. Ladies and Gentlemen, May Allah SWT bless you. Indeed, when a person... ... has a positive think towards Allah SWT, he will obtain the greater good. He said, “A slave will not, Be given the greater good than to think positive towards Allah SWT. Hence, we, as Muslims, Shall always have a positive thinking towards our God Especially under the following conditions. The first one is when we commit a sin. He shall then ask for forgiveness from Allah SWT. And he shall believe that Allah will accept his repentance. Do they not know that it is God... ... alone who can accept the repentance of His servants... receives their gifts of charity, and that Allah is verily He, the Oft-Returning, Most Merciful? Remember what the Prophet ﷺ said: The Prophet ﷺ said: A servant committed a sin, and he said: O Allah, forgive me my sins, What does Allah SWT say? He came to realize that he has a Lord... Who takes to account (the sinner) for the sin, and forgives the sins. غفرت له, and Allah said: And I have granted this servant forgiveness. And this servant... ... does not commit any sin for a while. And he commits other sins. Again, he lives in sins. And soon he says, اَللّهُمَّ اغْفِرْلِيْ "Dear Lord, forgive me." He came to realize that he has a Lord... who takes to account (the sinner) for the sin, and forgives the sins. And Allah says, غفرت له I forgive him. And he commits no sin. And he commits again other sins. And he says with full certainty, He thinks positive of Allah, he says, رب اغْفِرْلِيْ "Dear Lord, forgive me." And Allah says: علم عبدي ان له ربا يأخذ بالذنب ويغفر الذنب he came to realize that he has a Lord... who takes to account (the sinner) for the sin, and forgives the sins. غفرت له and I forgive him. I testify before you that I forgive him. In a story, Allah SWT says: O servant, do what you like. The Islamic scholars believes that, as many times as someone commits a sin and ask for forgiveness, And commits a sin, and repent, And meets the requirement for repentance, Allah will always forgive his sins that many times. Therefore, when one commits a sin, do not delay his repentance. Be sure that Allah accept his repentance. Once he asks for forgiveness, Allah SWT will forgive his sins. Remember what the Prophet ﷺ said: Allah SWT loves in fact His servants more than... ... a mother loves ... ... her own child. The second condition demanding us to think positive is... ...when we pray to Allah SWT. We shall always pray... ... by believing that Allah will answer our prayer. How could it not be? Allah says in the Quran. وقال ربكم ادعوني استجب لكم And your Lord says: ادعوني Pray to Me, ask Me. It is certain that I will grant your request. In another verse, Allah says: And if my Servants ask, O Muhammad, about Me, tell them that I am close. I answer those who pray to Me. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Call upon Allah while being certain of being answered. And know that... Allah does not respond to a supplication from the heart of one heedless and occupied by play. He will not respond to a supplication from those who does not think positive of Allah. Who is not certain that his prayer will be answered. But, if one thinks positive, And have faith that Allah will respond to his prayer, Then Allah will answer his prayer. How could he not answer... ... A believer’s request who fears Allah? Allah responded to Iblis’ prayer. Iblis said: فأنظر إلى يوم البعث "Give me respite till the day they are raised up." Allah said that He granted his request. (Allah) said: "Be thou among those who have respite." How can we su’udhan, have negative thinking of Allah? While Allah respond to unbelievers’ prayers. In the Quran, Allah SWT says: Now, if they embark on a boat, And they endure the big wave, دَعَوُا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ they call on Allah, making their devotion sincerely (and exclusively) to Him; but when He has delivered them safely to (dry) land, Allah said فَلَمَّا نَجَّاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِ إِذَا هُمْ يُشْرِكُونَ But when He has delivered them safely to (dry) land, behold, they give a share (of their worship to others)! What about those who has faith, who fears Allah, who does prostrations, lows himself before Allah SWT who cries and prays in hope, asks Allah SWT. Moreover, he does that in the final third night, When everyone is asleep? How could the person’s prayer be not responded by Allah SWT while Allah SWT looks for His servants, who prays in the last third of the night. Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?' "Is there anyone among My Slaves.. ...ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Among the conditions that one shall have good belief in Allah SWT, Is that when he looks for sustenance, He shall have good faith that Allah SWT... ... will grant him sustenance. Know this, Ladies and Gentlemen, may Allah SWT bless you. This is an amazing case for a human being. ... Those who have bad faith toward Allah SWT... Meanwhile in terms of sustenance, meanwhile he... When they were still a fetus, A fetus in their mother’s womb, Allah gave him the sustenance through his mother. and they are born, tiny, helpless, he cannot do anything, until he's grown up. and they go to school, they grow up, they have diplomas, and he earns his title, and he obtains power, And he has prejudice toward Allah SWT. that Allah won't grant him any sustenance. This is a misplaced prejudice. When he was little, Allah provides him sustenance, How can it be, that he has strength, Allah does not grant any thing? He shall strive and fear Allah SWT, And looking for causes sustenance, both physical ones, And the final judgment day one. Most people, when they look for sustenance, They only rely upon visible causes, while there are divine causes. The one that needs full attention is when people hope to obtain the sustenance from Allah. First, to fear Allah SWT. Allah says: Whoever fears Allah, He will make form a way out to his problems. And Allah will grant sustenance for him from sources that he might not have thought of. Hence, when one is looking for sustenances, When all doors are closed and he finds it hard to do it, He does all means and without result, He shall make himself better. He shall not be over confident of himself. He may have committed sins. He might not have held his tongue, his gaze, his heart. He shall fear Allah SWT more. Allah will provide him... ...from sources that he might not have thought of. Hence, some Islamic scholars have said, When one has granted with sustenance, from sources that he might not have thought of, That means that he fears Allah SWT. Among other things that might cause sustenance to come, is to tie kinship. Anyone who wants to have his provision expanded, and his term of life lengthened, should maintain ties of kinship. Be assured, that if you tie kinship, offer gifts to your families, relatives and friends, and most importantly, always in relation with your parent, Pleasing your father, pleasing your mother, Be assured that all success, will come to you when you... ... stay in touch with the persons who have the right, your parents. Ladies and Gentlemen, May Allah SWT bless you. Among those that grant us with sustenance is sadaqah (give to charity). The Prophet ﷺ said: مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ Wealth is not diminished by giving (in charity). Allah SWT even said in the hadith Qudsi. Spend (on charity), O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you. The more we spend on charity, be assured, the more Allah will provide us. How? It is His business. Ladies and Gentlemen, May Allah SWT bless you. Among the condition That need one to think good of Allah, And this is important. That is when he is dying. In the hadith narrated by Muslim, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: None of you should court death, but only hoping good from Allah. That is when he is dying. He shall strengthen his hope to Allah, He shall remember Allah’s promises that He has divine qualities. Allah is Al-Ghafur, the Most Forgiving. Allah is Ar-Rahiim, Ar-Rahmaan, the Most Merciful. Allah said in the hadith Qudsi: My Mercy precedes my Anger. And My Mercy embraces all things. Remember Allah SWT's promises. That He is the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful. When one is dying, he shall strengthen, Strengthen his hope to Allah SWT. Because Allah SWT had said: In a hadith Qudsi, Allah SWT said, If he thinks good of me, he will have it. If he thinks evil of me, he will have it. However, ladies and Gentlemen, May Allah SWT bless you. To think good of Allah is not easy. Mostly for those who live in sins. Their heart is wrapped in black. That he always have prejudice toward Allah SWT. It is that bad that... That is when he is dying. he cannot think good of Allah SWT. He thinks that Allah will torture him. He thinks that Allah will put him in hell. And if he has this evil prejudice, then Allah will act, in accordance with what he thinks. Ladies and Gentlemen, May Allah SWT bless you. Another condition where we need to think good of Allah, is that when we suffer from misfortune. A believer who fears Allah SWT. who strives not to commit any sin, Who strives to stay away from Allah’s prohibitions, Even thought some times he commits some, violates Allah's rules, but he continuously fear Allah, if after he tries, he suffers any misfortune, he shall be certain that what Allah gives him is the best. what Allah has chosen for him, what Allah has determined for him is the best. Perhaps you may hate a thing, and it is best for you. And Allah said, وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ Allah knows, and you do not. Allah creates us. He knows what is best for us. He knows what is good for us. A servant may have dreams. A servant may have goals. Hopes. But, sometimes, Allah's decision is Not in line with his goals, with his hopes. Be assured that what Allah has decided, it is what is best for the person, for his future. Because Allah knows better about his future. Allah knows what is good for him. Even sometimes, said Imam Ibnu Khoir RA, Sometimes, grace comes from God in form of misfortune. Sometimes, Allah deliver a grace to His servant in form of a misfortune. And Allah provided examples in the Quran. The first example is the story of Joseph A.S. The Prophet Joseph, A.S. How could he be one of the King, a noble minister in Egypt, After all the misfortunes he endured? It turned out that all these misfortunes that came one after the other Is endowments from Allah SWT for him to be a minister. First, he was separated from his parents. He was put inside a well when he was little. First misfortune, he was separated from his parents. Then, one found the Prophet Joseph in a well. He was taken out. Instead of taking him to his parents’, he became a slave to sell. The next misfortune. After living in Egypt, the queen dragged him, he was accused, he was put in jail. The next mis fortune. The next misfortune. In the prison, two persons came, asking him to interpret their dreams. One was said to be murdered. One was said to be safe. And of the two, to that one whom he consider about to be saved, He was going to work with the king. he said: "Mention me to thy lord." What did the Prophet Joseph mean? He hoped, that when this person mentions Joseph’s kindness, the king would set the Prophet Joseph free, and he would be returned to his parents’ home. But, what did Allah say? But the person forgot to mention [Joseph] to his lord, Another misfortune for the Prophet Joseph. And so he remained in prison a few [more] years. It turned out that Allah wanted good for him. Allah wanted the prophet Joseph to interpret the King’s dream. So, the Prophet Joseph was confined in jail for years. More years in jail. Until came the day when the King had a dream. AND [one day] the King said: Behold, I saw [in a dream] seven fat cows, being devoured by seven emaciated ones, and seven green ears [of wheat] next to [seven] others that were withered. It turned out, that the person who was saved or whose dream was interpreted by the Prophet Joseph, remembered that he was a dream interpreter. Then, the Prophet Joseph was called, to interpret the King’s dream. Then the Prophet Joseph came. Finally, the Prophet Joseph was appointed minister. See how nobleness was given to the Prophet Joseph. It came through a series of misfortunes. These misfortunes that came one after the other turned out, behind these everlasting misfortunes, is an extraordinary grace from Allah. He was appointed minister. This is the first example. The second example, where grace was given in forms of misfortunes is what was endured by the Prophet Moses’ mother. And indeed We conferred a favor on thee, O Moses, another time (before). When? Allah says: "Behold! We sent to thy mother, by inspiration, the message: When she delivered little Moses. We know that at that time, We know that Pharaoh was looking for young boys to be killed. When the Prophet Moses came out from his mother's womb, he was told to be separated from his mother. His mother carried him for 9 months in her womb. She waited little Moses. When he was born, they need to be separated. Allah told her, “'Throw (the child) into the chest.” And he was put in the chest, Released in the Nile river. A big river, with big waves, there might even be crocodiles. But she held strong upon Allah SWT. After she did all that, Allah took care of the rest. Allah set everything that happened to little Moses. It turned out that Allah said, The basket passed Pharaoh’s castle. The basket with little Moses, Was taken by Pharaoh's wife, Allah set up that Pharaoh’s wife is destined not to have any child. She fell in love with the Prophet Moses AS. Even though the baby is an Israeli. Then what? Pharaoh’s, who was looking for baby boys to be killed, had to say to his wife, who found Moses dear to her. And Pharaoh took care of the Prophet Moses AS. Then what? Moses AS was nurtured and taken care of, In Pharaoh’s castle. He was even adopted by Pharaoh. Then what? As Moses was adopted in Pharaoh’s castle, Pharaoh looked for a woman who could breastfeed little Moses. No one was willing to. The only one who would do was his real mother. So We brought thee back to thy mother, that her eye might be cooled and she should not grieve. Subhanallah. And Moses’ mother was placed in Pharaoh’s castle to breastfeed his son, and be paid by the Pharaoh. This is a grace that came in form of a misfortune. If, his mother kept Moses, Moses might have stayed and safe from the Pharaoh’s kingdom. He would have stayed in... ... the Israeli’s village, colonized and poor. But Allah wanted his mother to endure, That Moses can be taken care of in the Pharaoh’s castle, in serenity. His mother even stayed there. Getting paid by the Pharaoh. Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, May Allah Swt bless you. Should a misfortune came to us from Allah SWT, Be patient, and have a good faith toward Allah SWT. Behind these misfortunes, there are lessons that we might know of, and the ones we don’t know.
