Ladies and gentlemen who are blessed by Allah SWT,
Alhamdulillah, we give thanks to Allah for all His gifts
so that we can gather in the assembly of knowledge
may our assembly be blessed by Allah SWT
Shalawat and greetings may always be poured out to our lord...
...Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and also to his family,
and all his friends ﷺ without exception
In this day (social media era) all ideas are scattered. It is easily accessible, perceivable, and digestible
Among them are wild ideas. There was nothing like this before
In the past, it was not easy for one to know an heresy
Now, all the heresies and wild ideas are spreading in the virtual world
Even, many people end up becoming apostates, atheists, or being doubtful about their religion...
...because of surfing in virtual world
Then, it is true what the Prophet said,
the Prophet ﷺ,
"Be prompt in doing good deeds..."
"...(before you are overtaken) by turbulence which would be like a part of the dark night"
That is a slander so severe that one cannot see the truth,
the Prophet described it like,
like a part of the dark night that blinds everyone,
Prophet ﷺ said,
"A man would be a Muslim in the morning and an unbeliever in the evening"
"or he would be a believer in the evening and an unbeliever in the morning"
And it's very possible in this age
For example, a person is still praying at dawn. Then, in the evening he reads Atheist thoughts on the Internet
In the evening, he disbelieves in Allah SWT. It happens
Therefore, when we are dealing with unruly sources of information,
we must have a pointer. Do not hear, read, or observe things at random
If we don't have filters and pointers, we'll be amazed by everyone's statements,
When an atheist expresses his thoughts, people who have no foundations of Islam will certainly be easily influenced
Or even religions other than Islam,
When a Christian who expresses his thoughts about Christianity,
a person who does not have a filter or a strong foundation can be influenced by their religion
At least, there are many liberal people in front of us who always spread their doubts that make us doubt our own religion.
When a person has doubts about his creed, it is no longer called Aqidah
Creed is a strong rope
If one no longer believe of what he believes, it means he has no faith
It is sufficient that the creed is a belief that is Jazim,
that is a definite belief
As for someone who doubts the existence of Allah, in fact, he has not believed
As for doubting that Islam is true or not, it means that he has not believed
This is what Ahlul Bathil has spread. Either Liberals, adherents of other religions, and Atheists.
In the end, if a person does not have a strong foundation of Islam, he will be easily influenced by these thoughts
On this occasion, it is important for us to have a pointer to know the true belief
and recognize the sources of the wrong belief. So we can stay away from
So, no matter how a person speaks, with his sweet words and logically...
...if we know the source is the wrong one, then we won't accept it
We know that there are many thoughts in Islamic firqahs related to the Aqidah. So, we must avoid it
Ladies and gentlemen who are blessed by Allah SWT,
For the true source of aqidah...
...one asked Shaykhul Islam Ibn Taymiyah rahimahullahu ta'ala,
"Where do we take the Aqidah?"
he said,
"You do not take the Aqidah from me",
Meaning do not take the Aqidah from Ibn Taymiyah
"and do not take the Aqidah from someone who is greater than Ibn Taymiyah"
"But take the Aqidah from the Qur'an and As-Sunnah"
"and what has been agreed upon by the salaf of this Ummah"
namely the pious salafus. That is the source of the Aqidah
"Then whatever is in the Qur'an, we will take it"
as well as those contained in authentic hadiths. That is the source of Muslim's faith
Ibn Taymiyah rahimahullahu ta'ala explained that the creed of Muslims is simple...
...that is, the Qur'an, the Sunnah and the understanding of the salaf
What comes out of this, it is not aqidah
There are many thoughts and beliefs scattered in this world
but we have a pointer,
that is Muslim pointers are the Qur'an, Sunnah...
"and what has been agreed upon by the salafussaleh"
If there is no Qur'an, we cannot accept it.
If there is no Hadith, we cannot accept it.
If it is not agreed upon by the Salaf, we will not accept it.
There were some firqah appeared at the time of the Companions, namely Khawarij,
This (Khawarij) is the first firqah in Islam,
which they postulate with the Qur'an...
...they (khawarij) read the Qur'an and understand the Qur'an...
...but they do not understand the Qur'an well and they abandon the understanding of Salafussaleh
That's why the Prophet ﷺ characterizes the Khawarij,
"They (Khawarij) recite the Qur'an, but it will not go beyond their throats"
That is, their reciting does not seep through their heart
They are not 'ajam. They are not like us
'Ajam is other than Arabs. While they (Khawarij) are Arabs
They understand Arabic,
They can read the Qur'an
They understand the language of the Qur'an, but they do not understand what is meant by the Qur'an
As proof, they (the Khawarij) disbelieved Mu'awiyah and Ali bin Abi Talib,
and disbelieve all those who are pleased with the decision of Al-Hakamain
Al-Hakamain (two judges) in question is Abu Musa Al-Asy'ariy who is a representative of Ali bin Abi Talib,
and 'Amr bin 'Ash radhiallahu 'anhuma who is the representative of Muawiyah
These two people met and decided to mediate between Muawiyah's party and Ali bin Abi Talib's party,
Each of them sent a judge or deputy, namely Abu Musa Al-ash'ari with Amr bin 'Ash radiallahu 'anhuma
When the Khawarij this condition, they said "this means that it is not Allah's law"
they said,
"there is no law except the law of Allah Almighty"
"Those who are pleased with the decisions of these two people are pleased with the human law..."
"...then we disbelieve in them and everyone who is pleased with the decision of these two (Al-Hakamain)", said the Khawarij
How do they (khawarij) understand the Qur'an? They understand with their brains. Not with the understanding of the Companions
Meanwhile, there is no Companios who have an understanding like the Khawarij's
It is fatal when someone understands the Qur'an by leaving the understanding of the salaf
I give a simple example. There is an Arab who understands the Qur'an. He understands Arabic, but he understands the Qur'an with his brain,
and he does not rely on the understanding of the Companions
They (Khawarij) should have asked the Companions, "How do you understand this verse?"
but they don't ask. They understand it themselves. In the end, they fall into an heresy
Therefore, before the war broke out,
Ali bin Abi Talib sent Ibn Abbas radhiallahu 'anhuma to have a dialogue with the Khawarij
Among their dialogue points, they (Khawarij) say, "Why did Ali and Muawiyah give law to humans?"
-namely Amr bin Ash and Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari-
The answer is easy,
Ibn Abbas radhiallahu 'anhuma said, "Allah Almighty even handed over the law to humans in lighter cases"
For example, domestic disputes
In Surah An-Nisa', Allah SWT said
"If you are worried that this husband and wife will divorce, appoint a mediator from his family and another from hers."
These two people will make a decision between husband and wife who are quarelling. Doesn't this mean that Allah leaves it to human law?
Is this not Allah's law? This is the law of Allah SWT
Likewise in the case of جزاء الصيد
namely a person while in ihram, he hunts animals,
Allah SWT said
Allah SWT said, "O believers! Do not kill game while on pilgrimage."
"... Whoever kills game intentionally must compensate by offering its equivalence..."
"...as judged by two just men among you"
This is an example showing that, in another verse, Allah SWT handed over the law to humans to decide a case
namely the previous case regarding the issue of husband and wife disputes, the second issue is fines for those who hunt during Umrah for violating the rules.
Eventually, many of them (Khawarij) came to their senses. Then, joined the army of Ali bin Abi Talib,
While the rest of them (Khawarij) kept on nagging. Finally, a battle broke out
This is a simple example that there is a group of misguided people who are good at Arabic and understand the language of the Qur'an but their understanding is not in accordance with the understanding of the pious salaf
Understood?
The second example,
the dialogue mentioned between Imam Ahmad bin Hambal rahimahullahu
ta'ala with Ahmad ibn Abi Duad
Imam Ahmad bin Hambal is the Imam of Ahlussunnah Waljama'ah
Ahmad Ibn Abi Duad is the imam of Mu'tazila
They debated in front of a Caliph, about the issue of slander khalqul quran
We know that in the time of Imam Ahmad bin Hambal, the caliphs starting from Khalifal Ma'mun and onwards,
They were influenced by their rulers who are Mu'tazila figures
Sometimes rulers are influenced by misguided people, and it might happen
and this happened at the time of Imam Ahmad bin Hambal
Starting from the caliph Al-Ma'mun, Mu'tashim, then Al-Watsiq Billah,
All of them were influenced by the Mu'tazilah
Among the Mu'tazila people, there was a man named Ahmad ibn Abi Duad. Both named Ahmad,
One of them is Ahmad Ahlussunnah
and another is Ahmad Ahlul Bid'ah
The two of them had a dialogue in front of the Caliph
At that time, the authorities ordered all scholars to declare the Qur'an is a creature. This is the creed of the Mu'tazila.
Why did they (Mu'tazila) say the Qur'an is a creature? Of course, this is a long discussion in matters of faith
I just want to convey the conclusion that they believe the word of Allah SWT is not the nature of Allah, but the word of Allah is a creature,
so they said "Qur'an is not the word of Allah, but it is a creature. Whoever does not want to say so will be killed"
Whoever does not want to say so, he will be killed
Finally, many scholars are doing tauriyyah. Many are hiding themselves
Among those who are steadfast is Imam Ahmad bin Hambal rahimahullahu ta'ala
He was imprisoned. Forced to say the Qur'an is a creature but he didn't want to say it,
He was whipped. In some narrations, it is mentioned that he was whipped until his flesh was separated from his body because the whip was so strong and made him weak
One day, he was called to have a dialogue with Ahmad ahlul bid'ah in front of the Caliph,
The dialogue was long. Imam Ahmad said to Ahmad ibn Abi Duad,
"O Ahmad ibn Abi Duad, tell me about what you call people to say the Qur'an is a creature?"
"Has the Prophet ever called for it?
"You say the Qur'an is a creature. Did the Prophet ever say that?"
He said "No!"
Second question,
"If the Prophet didn't say so, did Abu Bakr ever call people to believe that?"
His answer "No!"
"Well, the neither Prophet nor Abu Bakr said so. Did Umar ever call on people to say that?"
"Also, no!"
"Uthman?"
"No!"
"Ali?"
"Also no!"
"The Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali never called people to say that..."
...then you tell all humans to believe in that?"
This is an example of Imam Ahmad arguing with the understanding of the salaf to refute the ahlul bid'ah
saying that what they called for was never called by the Prophet ﷺ,
and Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali bin Abi Talib never believed it
This is an example of how one must stick to the Qur'an and Sunnah with the understanding of the Companions
and this is hinted by the Prophet Nabi in his hadiths
Among them, the Prophet ﷺ said,
"Whoever among you lives after me, he will see many conflicts"
"I urge you to adhere to what you know of my Sunnah"
"the path of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs"
namely the Companions
"who will come after me"
"and cling to it with your molars"
"beware of new things in religion matters"
This is the time when Prophet ﷺ mentioned Firqatun Najiyah,
when the Prophet ﷺ said,
the Prophet ﷺ said,
"Jews are divided into 71. Christians are divided into 72,"
"Islam will be divided into 73. All in Hell except for one"
The Companions said,
"Who is safe, O Messenger of Allah?"
The Prophet ﷺ said
"Those who are on my path and the path of my Companions today"
The Prophet reminded that it must be with the understanding of the salaf
and this is how we believe. Easy!
namely the Qur'an, Sunnah, and the understanding of the Companions
If it is not like this, then we should stay away
Ladies and gentlemen who are blessed by Allah SWT
This is the source of the true faith,
Learning the Islamic faith is very easy
You open the books about faith. Find the verses, hadiths and sayings of the salaf. Done!
the Previous Salaf wrote books about Aqidah
hundreds of books of Aqidah
I have discussed this in the discussion of Syarah Aqidah Wasithiyyah
I mentioned hundreds of books of Aqidah and all are simple,
the contents of it are the Qur'an, Sunnah, the words of the salaf. Easy!
Then later on, there are models of Akidah which are not based on the Qur'an, Sunnah based on the understanding of the salaf.
I became the sources for taking the creed arguing with the correct source
Among these sources is to make ancestral traditions as a source of faith
some people have certain beliefs
when asked "What is the source?"
They said, "Ancestors. A hereditary tradition that can't be argued"
A simple example. Almost every region has Pamali,
Most Pamali is superstition
Most are a small shirk that is never in the Qur'an or Sunnah
If there is a postulate, we will accept it.
But most of them are illogical and there is no postulate
For example, if someone sits in front of the door, he will not get married
Have you ever heard of that, haven't you?
So a lot of weird things
For example, you can't cut your nails at night
What is the postulate? Nothing. My ancestors said so.
So the postulate is tradition, and that's a lot
In fact, this belief was adopted from the traditions of western ancestors
For example, a belief that the number 13 is an unlucky number
This is not a Javanese tradition,
not a Bugis tradition, and not a Madurese saying that 13 is an unlucky number
Where is it com from? From the West
Were our ancestors tradition not enough until taking Westerners' ancestors tradition?
-the congregation laughs-
Subhanallah...
If the ancestors tradition is good, we will maintain it. A must that we need to take care of
But, if the traditions of our ancestors, maybe some of them have other religion than Islam,
it turns out that it is contrary to Islamic law. We can't take it
Apparently, the tradition is often illogical,
A simple example, the number 13 brings bad luck
This is very illogical, but many people believe it
I often say this. When we get on a plane, there is no seat number 13, no!
It's impossible for you to get on any airline with seat number 13. It's impossible!
Why? Because it's believed to be unlucky
Likewise, if you take the elevetor, there is no 13th floor
There is only the 12th floor then immediately goes to 15th
Sometimes, some hotels have number 13, because the hotel turns out to only have 6 floors
-the congregation laughs-
Then, some buildings don't have 4th floor. There are 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor, 3A floor, then 5th floor
Subhanallah..
What's the problem with number 4, o Brother?
Do you have a problem with the number 13?
If people ask, how many children you have, Ustadz? Five, this is the 1st child,
2nd child, 3rd child, 3rd-A child and 5th child
-the congregation laughs-
Subhanallah...
It's very illogical but people believe it
Their argument is that those are ancestral traditions, but not our ancestors.
the ancestors from abroad, Subhanallah...
This is an example that tradition should not be used as a postulate
This is what caused the polytheists to go astray because they didn't want to change their traditions
Allah mentions their statement in the Qur'an
"We found our ancestors were like this"
"we just follow them"
Prophet Ibrahim 'alaihissalam when rebuking his people, his people said,
"We found our ancestors were like this"
Prophet Ibrahim said "You and your ancestors are apparently fall into heresy"
Therefore, one of the sources of the Untrue Faith is to use the traditions of the ancestors as the source of the Faith
Brothers and sisters who are blessed by Allah SWT
When we make our ancestors tradition as a source of faith...
Suppose we give in and use our ancestral traditions as a source of Aqidah (belief),
if so, whose ancestors do we want to use as a benchmark while we have so many tribes?
Are you waiting for the Ijma' of the ancestors?
(laughs)
It's definitely different,
The ancestors of the Javanese are different from the Bugis. The ancestors of the Sundanese are different from the Javanese.
They have different ancestors
Allahul Musta'an
So, whose ancestor is the benchmark?
If we return Religion to our ancestors, whose ancestors will be the benchmark?
Ok, Islam in one world should be the same, right?
Islam in the past should not change until Islam in today's age
Allah SWT said,
the verse came down when the Prophet ﷺ was on Hajj Wada', in the field of Arafah
So Allah sent down His words,
"Today I have perfected your faith for you..."
"... completed My favour upon you, and chosen Islam as your way"
That's why Islam is perfect. No more additionals
Imam Malik's words are very beautiful,
and you should try to memorize these words!
Imam Malik said,
"What was in the time of Muhammad ﷺ was not from religion, today, it is not a part of the religion either"
If we develop it, we can say "Things that was not creed in the time of Muhammad ﷺ, today, it is also not a creed"
"What was not sharia in the time of Muhammad, it is not sharia either today"
If we say that it was not sharia at the time of Muhammad, now, it is sharia, it means that, in the past, Muhammad ﷺ's Islam was not perfect.
Understand? This is a logical consequence that Imam Malik rahimahullahu ta'ala said,
so this returns to the understanding of the Manhaj Salaf
As previous, did the Prophet ever call for this? Abu Bakr, Umar?
If not, why do we believe this?
I repeat. Something that was not a part of religion in the time of the Prophet ﷺ, it is impossible today that it is also a part of religion. It's impossible!
If so, then, you accuse the religion practiced by Muhammad ﷺ and his Companions at that time was not perfect
You can talk about religious issues, sharia issues,
If it didn't exist in the time of the Prophet, now it's made up,
It means that the religion practiced by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is not perfect, especially about faith
Well, we were talking about tradition in which it should not be used as a source of faith,
because the creed has been revealed by Allah with the package that we just receive, namely the Qur'an & Sunnah, with the understanding of the Companions. That's it!
If we say that tradition is the source of faith, then whose ancestors are the source of faith?
What are the ancestors of the Indonesians?
or the ancestors of the Filipinos?
or ancestors in Medina?
which ancestor?
So it is clear that it is impossible for Allah to make the traditions of the ancestors as pointera
Among the sources of fallacious creed is to make MIND AS THE MAIN SOURCE OF CREED
Many people are slipping into this
which make mind as a source of faith
Among the firqahs that make mind as the source of faith are Jahmiyah,
then the Mu'tazila,
then Asya'irah
They make mind as the source of their faith
they even say,
"Preferring mind over postulate"
This is a method that Ar-Razi used which he named,
a universal rule
This method states, "if there is a conflict between mind and postulate, then, mind takes precedence over postulate"
Why? They say that mind shows something that is certain. While postulate is something that is suspected,
If there is a conflict between something that is certain and what is suspected, the winner is the one who is certain
It is taken from philosophical thought,
so, with this creed (making Mind as the source of creed),
in the end, they reject or interpret the verses of characters,
they reject and interpret the verses of character
I give you a simple example
We talk about Allah being above. There are too many postulates about it,
even Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said that there are a thousand of postulates
"even, two thousand postulates"
Ibn Rushd Al-Hafidz even said
"All Shari'ah is built upon Allah above"
Islamic law is built on Allah above
What's the postulate? The Qur'an descends from above,
Angels descend from above, and report to where? Up there!
Where did the Prophet ﷺ Isra' Mi'raj go? Up there
Prophet ﷺ pray by raising his hands up
Islamic Shari'a is built on the belief that Allah is above
If Allah wasn't above, and this was all just a riddle, there would be so many verses that would like to be interpreted
When Prophet ﷺ doing Wada' Hajj, he said,
"O my friends, have I conveyed what Allah has entrusted to me?"
The companions said,
"We bear witness, O Messenger of Allah, that you have conveyed Allah's message"
"You have given the best advice to the people"
"you have conveyed a message from Allah SWT"
Then the Prophet ﷺ said
"O Allah, testify to them"
When the Prophet said "Allah", where did the Prophet point to? Up there.
So, there are too many postulates that the Prophet prayed by raising his hands
When the Prophet ﷺ moved to Medina, he wanted the Qibla to be changed from Baitul Maqdis towards Mecca (Ka'bah),
Prophet ﷺ always looks up
What did Allah say?
"We see you ˹O Prophet˺ turning your face towards heaven"
Why? Because he asked Allah SWT
There are too many postulates if we want to discuss it
And every Muslim in the world, they believe in Allah being above even though their tongues sometimes deny it
Therefore, when they pray, they certainly raise their hands up
If they had a problem, they would definitely say, "We'll leave it to the ones above"
If it's fate, they say, "if the above has decided it, what can you do?"
There was never a voice saying "We leave it to everywhere"
Nothing!
For example,
"We have a big problem, so we have left it to those who are not above and not below"
No one ever said that!
If someone says that, we say
"Is your brain function normally when you say that?"
For example, someone says,
"This is a serious problem, we leave it to those who are not above and not below, who are not everywhere"
(the congregation laughs)
Do you think people who hear it will be confused or not?
"Wait a minute..."
-The congregation laughs-
This needs to be checked, who knows that person has the corona virus...
(the congregation laughs)
How do we submit to those who are not above and not below?
How do we leave it to the nowhere? Illogical!
I mean, it's human nature to believe that,
There are too many postulates. The postulates of the Qur'an and Sunnah
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said there are two thousand postulates
Prophet went up when doing isra' mi'raj, for what? To meet Allah SWT
Speaking of mind postulates, there are also too many postulates
For example, Allah SWT is The Most High
Well
The postulates are too many. But, someone comes who uses his mind to reject that Allah is above the 'Arsy or rejecting Allah is above
For example, they say,
"Allah was alone"
"Allah used to be alone and nothing else with Him" This is a saheeh Hadith
then they added...
"and He (Allah) is now the same as before"
this is false
There is no hadith like this. It's fake!
This is reminded by Ibn Taymiyah and quoted by Ibn Hajar in Fathul Bari,
that this addition is not true.
there is only كان الله ولاشيء معهء
"Allah is by Himself. Nothing else was with Him"
Allah used to be alone, then, Allah created His creatures. This is true
So Allah SWT is alone. He is not with His creatures
But they say "Allah used to have no place and now Allah is the same as before who doesn't need a place"
Who said that Allah needed a place?
Allah is above and does not need a place. Why? Because Allah is The Most Great while the heavens and the universe are small
How does the heavens & the universe want to overshadow Allah?
Don't think that 'Arsy overshadows Allah, or the heavens overshadows Allah
It is Allah who guards the heavens
Allah says
"Allah ˹alone˺ keeps the heavens and the earth from falling apart"
"It is not difficult for Allah to protect the heavens and the earth"
Allah says about the Day of Judgment,
"They have not shown Allah His proper reverence—when on the Day of Judgment the ˹whole˺ earth will be in His Grip..."
"... and the heavens will be rolled up in His Right Hand"
So, nature is something small for Allah SWT
If Allah is above means that the heavens is overshadowing Allah?
Where is this thought from?
This is because they believe that if Allah is above, it allows Allah to be sheltered. Allah needs a place. That's their thinking.
So, in his book Asas At-Taqdis, Ar-Razi said,
"If Allah is above the 'Arsy, it means that Allah needs the 'Arsy. Showing that the 'Arsy is greater than Allah...'
"... if the 'Arsy falls, Allah will also fall"
This is his logic (Ar-Razi). His brain is not able to understand it and he calls that logic with certainty
Pay attention...
He calls it "a certainty", or the Absolute
While the others (the proposition), it is zhanni, namely, something that is relative or uncertain
The rebuttal is very easy...
...Your logic is not true,
The proof is there is something that is greater than those below. Also, there
are those above who don't need the ones below,
For example, heaven and earth. Which one is higher? Heavens
Does the heavens need Earth? No!
Does Earth overshadow the heavens? No!
Precisely the heavens overshadows many things,
the heavens covers Earth, the sun and the stars
This shows that the one above is not always smaller than the one below
and it doesn't always one in above needs the one on the bottom
We say that Allah is the Most Great. Allah does not need a place
This universe is under the grip of Allah SWT,
Do not say "if Allah is above, then, Allah is overshadowed by a place"
This is a trick they use to reject all the postulates and interpret them
Therefore, it is difficult if mind is used as a source of faith. Because it will reject various kinds of postulates
That's a simple example. There are many other examples
We say, the source of the true faith is the Qur'an and the Sunnah,
The correct postulate will not contradict common sense
Ibn Taimiyyah wrote a thick book entitled Dar'u Ta'ârudh al-'Aql wa al-Naql, which eliminates the contradiction between mind and postulate
Ibn Taymiyyah explained that if the postulate is authentic, it cannot be contradict to mind.
On the other hand, if it is considered contrary to mind, it means that his mind is in trouble
Take a previous example. We talked about Allah being above, then our minds accept it and it doesn't matter,
if one's mind doesn't accept it, it's not the postulate that's the problem but his mind
How can you assume your mind is absolute, then, you want to condemn all the postulate for submitting to your mind?
Such an attitude is dangerous
Ladies and gentlemen who are blessed by Allah SWT,
For example, we gave in,
If we accept mind as the argument for the source of faith, the question is whose mind do we use as a standard?
your mind? or my mind?
understand?
There are too many minds in this age. Various IQs. There are people with high and low IQs
Which mind do you want? O brother, there are a lot of minds
If we use mind as the source of faith, whose mind is the postulate?
Such a beautiful words from Imam Malik,
"Alas, with which reason would you want to be used as a barometer for weighing the Qur'an and Sunnah?"
Whose mind should be used as a pointer?
For example, "Oh, we accept this because it fits with our mind. We reject this one because it doesn't fit with our mind"
If there is only one mind, maybe we can use it as a source of faith.
In fact, there are various minds
Therefore, the three groups, namely Jahmiyah, Mu'tazilah, Asya'irah who agreed to make mind as the source of creed, they also disagreed with each other.
They disagreed each other and their creeds were different
Why? Because the mind of Jahmiyah is not the same as the mind of the Mu'tazilah, and the mind of the Mu'tazilah is not the same as the mind of Asya'irah,
Then, it is impossible and illogical to make mind as a source of faith
because mind is graded and different
Understand?
If we say it is permissible to use mind as a source of faith, then I prefer the mind of the Companions. Done!
Well,
Among the sources of creed that are not true is to make experience as a source of creed
This happens often
When asked why? One answered "It's experience..."
"...I read the Throne verse 700 times, then, I recovered from my sickness...", for example
then the practice is turned into faith,
we say, it can't be like that
If we postulate with experience, there will be many kinds of experiences
(example) I went to a shaman then I recovered. That's an experience
Can it turned into a belief?
You can't make experience as a faith
Why did the polytheists like to worship and ask idols?
It must be because their request was granted
If it is never granted at all, it is impossible for them to survive in their shirk
but Allah granted their request as a fitnah (a test) for them,
in our terms, it is Istidraj
If based on experience, for example, asking an idol, then it is granted,
then other religions are like that, "I went to church to ask Jesus and it was granted"
If that's the case, what would you like to do?
Therefore, whose experience do you want to use?
If we use experience, ahlul batil and shirk experts will postulate with experience, and that happens
For example, they say, "I am following this religion and I feel peaceful, calm"
"I joined in praying to the inhabitants of the grave and it was answered"
All because of experience...
Many people whose experiences are not like them (ahlul batil), but also granted by Allah SWT,
Lots of it!
Therefore, it is not permissible to use experience as a source of faith.
because something that happened could be Istridraj
For example, a person doing heresy reads the Throne verse 700 times, prays continuously and it is granted,
the answer to prayer may not be because of reading the Throne verse 700x,
but his righteous heart and he really hoped in Allah, then Allah granted it,
or it could be that Allah answered his prayer because of Istidraj. We don't know,
because there are too many possibilities
Ensuring that reading the Throne verse 700x will happen something, the proof is experience...
...it will be troublesome
This kind of thing will develop, and experience is endless,
In the end, Ahlul Batil and Shirk experts also have their own experiences
If that's the case, we know that faith cannot be taken from experience
Another example of an incorrect belief is to make dreams a source of faith
O brother, dreams sometimes support a good thing in Islam,
but the dream is only as isti'nas (Reinforcement), not as the main source
A simple example, a person dreams of meeting the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet said "You should pray at night". This is okay,
this shows that he is supported to do night prayers
For example, a person dreams of hearing a voice calling to serve his parents. It doesn't matter
That means the dream is a supported means
But, all dreams must be checked against the Qur'an and Sunnah
It is not allowed to make dream as a source of faith
There are many people plunge into heresy because of this
In this case, an example of a heretic is a Sufi figure named Ibn Arabi
Ibn Arabi has a creed of Wihdatul Wujud
Ibn Arabi has several misleading books, including Futuhatul Makiyyah, Fususul Hikam
In Futhatul Makiyyah, he said,
He believes that Allah is united with His creatures
he said "Allah is a servant. A servant is Allah...."
Then, who is commanded to pray?
If the servant is commanded to pray, it means that Allah should pray
because the servant is Allah as they say
Is it confusing, isn'it? It must be
In the end, they don't pray
This is Ibn Arabi's creed
In his famous saying, Ibn Arabi said,
"All creatures on this earth make beliefs about God, and I (Ibn Arabi) believe in all those beliefs"
Imagine. how ridiculous it is.
I repeat, he said,
"All creatures have faith in God and I believe in all of them"
This is contradictory!
You believe in Islam and Christianity. While Islam and Christianity are contradictory. How is it possible to believe that both are true?
In essence, he believes that Allah is one with him, and he is one with Allah,
One of his amazing books is Fususul Hikam,
and I've read a lot of those books because my Master degree's
thesis is related to that book.
Among them, in the preamble of the book...
Before that, you need to know that the people who put out the manuscripts into books that are typed into the computer and printed are Orientalists.
So the ones who published this book out of the manuscript were not Moslems
but Orientalists
This is an intense Sufi book
Ibn Arabi said,
"On so many nights and years, I dreamed of meeting the Prophet ﷺ..."
"...then the Prophet ﷺ gave me this book..."
"...then the Prophet said, "Report it to my people"
"Well, here's the book"
So, he got the book from the Prophet ﷺ,
and he said "I neither add a letter nor reduce a letter"
The book has about 300 pages
Meaning that he had a long dream
(The congregation laughs)
It will take a long time to finish reading 300 pages
His memorization is strong, yes or no?
(The congregation laughs)
300 pages
Then, he said this was a book from the Prophet ﷺ through a dream,
I read about the creed of wihdatul wujud,
Apparently, he said in the book"Indeed, Pharaoh entered heaven"
Masha Allah...
If Pharaoh just goes to heaven, what about us? So, take it easy
You disobey as much as possible and will go to heaven, because Pharaoh entered heaven
He said, "Pharaoh knew Allah when he said أنا ربكم الأعلى (I am your The Most High Lord)"
"Pharaoh understood that there is Allah in him"
"Then, the words of Pharaoh أنا ربكم الأعلى (I am your The Most High Lord), are true."
Unbelievable. This is a dream from the Prophet ﷺ he said...
So, you can't make a dream as a postulate
Therefore in his book Al-Majmu', Imam An-Nawawi rahimahullahu ta'ala
when discussing the issue of determining the time of the new moon, whether tomorrow is fasting or not,
if someone dreams about Prophet ﷺ , then says "Indeed tomorrow is the 1st of Ramadan, you can fast"
The question is, did he comply with the dream or not?
The answer is No!
Imam An-Nawari rahimahullahu ta'ala, the great scholar of the Syafi'i Madhhab, said,
"Because dreams have many possibilities..."
"... what he must follow are the words of the Prophet when the Prophet was still alive and his companions heard it clearly"
What did the Prophet say?
"صوموا لرؤيته"
"Start fasting on seeing the crescent"
(back to the example) Now, there are two narrations in front of him. That's if he really meet the Prophet,
thus, he faced with two options,
the first option is the Prophet's coherent words and the companions heard it directly,
the second option, he dreamt of meeting the Prophet with many possibilities. It could be that he heard it wrong, or it was not the Prophet, etc.
So, Imam An-Nawawi rahimahullahu said, "He should follow what is clear"
It means you can't comply with the dream
(Another example) Someone had a dream. In his dream, the Prophet ﷺ said "Divorce your wife",
or the Prophet ﷺ said "You can practice Polygamy" How? Bismillah, can you do it?
(The congregation laughs)
if the Prophet ﷺ suddenly said "divorce your wife", he can't do that right away,
the Prophet explained that the devil and his followers loved a divorce
That's why he has to consider the Shari'a,
if it turns out to be true according to the Shari'a, that his wife has the right to be divorced because of cheating and other things,
Then, he can use that reason as a support, not as the main postulate
This matter touches on fiqh. What will happen if it touches on creed?
That's why we shouldn't accept faith from dreams
Why Brother? First, because dreams have many possibilities
Second, there cannot be anything new from the dream that the Prophet never explained in his life,
If it turns out that it is permissible to take the Prophet's Shari'a from a dream, it means that Islam is not perfect,
Meaning, Islam that was conveyed by the Prophet while he was still alive, was not perfect,
so, it had to be perfected with the new shari'a that was conveyed by the Prophet through dreams.
(for example) someone dreams of the Prophet teached about "Recite the Throne verse 7000 times every day",
he woke up and did it immediately
Why? He said the Prophet told me to recite the verse 7000 times through a dream
This one cannot be used as a postulate.
It shows that what the Prophet taught when he was alive still not perfect,
It must be perfected with a dream
Finally, when we accept this dream as a source of faith. There will be many people who have strange dreams
One of the strangest things I've ever encountered while attending a recitation,
I told them about the Prophet that people who dream of meeting the him. Sometimes, it's not the Prophet who comes to their dream, but the devil who claims to be the Prophet,
It is true that Prophet ﷺ said
"من رآني في المنام فقد رآني، فإن الشيطان لا يتمثل في صورتي"
"Whoever sees me in a dream, indeed he has seen me. Verily, the devil cannot impersonate me"
There are many interpretations of this hadith,
some say whoever sees the Prophet in a dream, he will see the
Prophet. By Hijrah, he will meet the Prophet
or he will meet the Prophet in the afterlife. There are many interpretations
another interpretation, he really dreamed of meeting the Prophet because the devil could not impersonate the Prophet
Remember. Satan cannot impersonate the Prophet, but Satan can claim to be a Prophet ﷺ
Once, I met someone after discussing this lecture, he said...
"...Ustadz, what you said is true. I haven't told people in a long time but I want to tell you"
"I had a dream of meeting the Prophet ﷺ, but I doubted it"
"Why" I asked
(He replied) "Because when I met the Prophet ﷺ, he wore the National skullcap"
(The congregation laughs)
"I began to doubt him but he claimed to be a Prophet.."
"Then, I saw him holding a cigarette"
(The congregation laughs)
"But he claims to be a prophet"
I mean, Satan can't impersonate the Prophet but Satan can claim to be a Prophet
Therefore, when the companions claimed to have met the Prophet
someone asked them,
"Tell me the characterizes of what you see"
"What are the characteristics of the Prophet that you see"
If it fits, it's the Prophet. If not, it's not the Prophet
(For example) Someone claimed to have met the Prophet and his hair was white
That's not the Prophet. Because, the Prophet's hair was not white
Once, I met a person who met the Prophet. I asked him "What are the characteristics of the Prophet?"
He said "The Prophet's face was radiance"
"Does he have beard?" I asked again
"No, his chin is shining", He replied
That's not the Prophet. Because, the Prophet has a thick beard
When the Prophet read the Qur'an, one can saw the movement of his beard
I mean, dreams are sometimes good,
but it should not be used as a source of faith
Sometimes, there are good dreams. There is also a disturbance from the devil in the dream
It is often difficult to distinguish whether a dream is from Satan, a revelation from Allah, or just a support
Wallahu ta'ala a'lam bissawab
There are people who have fell into heresey because of dreams
Well,
Ladies and gentlemen who are blessed by Allah SWT
A simple example of some other cases
which makes a person act because of a dream
One says "Indeed, there is a pious man who dreams that You (Mr.) will become something"
He dreams about it several times,
In the end, everyone focused on the idea that the Gentleman should be like this...
...because of a dream from a pious man
This idea was spread at that time
If that gentleman really turned out as he was told, wouldn't it be a slander, would it?
Qadarullah, it turns out it didn't happen to him
If so, it's amazing
people will say, "This pious man's dream comes true", and so on
Therefore, the dream is just a support and not act as a law of justification. It does not necessarily come true
Well,
Among the sources of wrong faith is making Al-Kasyf or Al-Wajd. That is believing as if Allah has opened the veil for him,
which is not opened to others,
thus, he said "My teacher has a revelation" or "He found something in him that is such and such...."
Well,
Someone may experience it, but it should not be used as a source of faith and believed by everyone
because that is not a source of faith in Islamic sharia.
It is not a source of faith in Islamic sharia
This is often used as an argument by Sufiyyah people that their teachers experience as such
We don't know what it is. It could be a devil's or jinn's instrusion
We hear that many people do Friday prayers in Mecca. For example, "Why don't you do Friday prayer at the mosque?"
He said "I do Friday prayer in Mecca",
Masha Allah
Whereas, it is still 8 a.m. in Mecca...
In Indonesia, people do Friday prayer at 12pm noon. While in Mecca, it is still 8 am in the morning
If so, With whom does he do Friday prayer?
So, it could be that his eyes were bewitched by a djinn. We don't know
That's why this is not a source of faith
Last but not least, ladies and gentlemen who are blessed by Allah SWT, among the sources of false creed is...
...to make dha'if and fake hadiths as sources of Aqidah
(For example) I once attended a Friday prayer sermon. The Khatib delivered a famous hadith.
He said "Rasulullah ﷺ is the noblest servant of Allah
and he was created from the light of Allah SWT"
"...it is called Nur Muhammad"
Then, he said,
"Allah told Rasulullah ﷺ
"O Rasulullah, if it were not for you, I would not have created this universe."
What hadith is this? It's a fake!
It's a fake hadith
It is also against the Shari'a that Allah created the universe to unite Him
At the end of Surah At-Thalaq Allah said,
"Allah is the One Who created seven heavens ˹in layers˺, and likewise for the earth."
What for?
"...so you may know that Allah is Most Capable of everything and that Allah certainly encompasses all things in ˹His˺ knowledge"
So, it's not because of the Prophet Muhammad
What is the aim of Allah by creating the universe, humans and jinns?
"I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me"
It is not because of Muhammad ﷺ
We love Rasulullah ﷺ more than loving our parents, and ourselves,
but we do not elevate his degree more than it should be,
It's like saying the universe was created because of Muhammad ﷺ,
furthermore, saying that the Prophet Muhammad was created from Nur Allah SWT. This is shirk!
It is as if there is a part of Allah that is separated and becomes Rasulullah ﷺ
All of this are fake hadiths
So, we should not build aqidah or a belief that is built on false hadiths
Ladies and gentlemen who are blessed by Allah SWT, this is all I can tell,
May we die on the right creed by Allah SWT's grace,
The creed taught by the Prophet ﷺ and the Companions adhered to
Wallahu ta'ala a'lam bisshawab
(Moderator)
Masha Allah, jazakallahu khairan Ustadz for delivering a worthwhile material
Next, we will open a question and answer session
(Moderator)
Thayyib, syukron jazakallahu khair Ustadz
Inshallah, we will maximize the question and answer session in the main room
Okay, the first one might be from the men's side,
Please ask the question!
(The questioner) "Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, Ustadz
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh...."
"...I want to ask regarding the many Islamic philosophers in the era of civilization after the Rashidun caliphate..."
"... for example the figures of Ibn Sina, Al-Kindi, Al-Farabi, and so on, they wrote not only on wordly matters but also about Islamic theology..."
"...Is their understanding following the Pious Predecessors or in accordance with the understanding of Ahlussunnah Waljamaah?"
"...Can we learn from their books relating to worldly matters such as medical science (not about Islamic theology)?"
"That's all, Ustadz. Jazakallahu khair.
Wajazakumullahu khaira
This is a good question. Indeed, there are some famous Islamic figures including Ibn Sina, Farabi, and others
Especially Ibn Sina who is called the father of medicine. He did a great job in medical science,
Maybe, he laid down the rules about medical science
But, some scholars say, "Should we study medical science written by Ibn Sina, while there is medical science nowadays..."
"...which is so modern by going through research and all that?"
I don't think we need to learn about medical science from Ibn Sina,
He has the merit of laying the foundations. Now, we have reached a higher level of medical science. We need to continue what is already there...
... by conducting observations and researches without forgetting the services of Ibn Sina as the founder of the foundations related to medical science. Also, no need to return to the past.
Usually, we take any worldly knowledge if it is useful
from the pagans, Greek figures,
Greek Philosophers. No problem
But, when the Greeks like Ariestotle and Plato began to talk about metaphysics or about divinity, this became a problem.
If they talk about Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine,
these are all sciences that are built on observation, research, and others. Those are built on something that is visible.
when they talk about God, they are talking about something unseen. Understand?
So, it is not permissible to attribute the unseen to the visible
because Allah cannot be known except by revelation
There's no way we can say "The characteristics of God should be such and such. God should be like this", No can do!
Unless, there is a revelation from Allah SWT through Rasulullah ﷺ
Can you imagine? Someone who does not have religious knowledge such as a medical person talking about God, there must be a lot of nonsense
What foundation does he use to talk about God?
Talking about the worldly matter is okay because he has the foundations,
he has observed, compared, and researched it. So, he can conclude that a creature is such and such because he has gained many experiences.
When it comes to talking about God, you can't!
We can't just talk about the spirit
"They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ (Muhammad) about the spirit..."
"Say, “Its nature is known only to my Lord”"
"and you ˹O humanity˺ have been given but little knowledge."
We can't talk about Spirit at ease
Even the Ulama said, "If there are a thousand Physicists, Chemists, Biologists, come together and talk about the Spirit, there will be a thousand opinions, because they have no foundation at all"
If you talk about the Angel realm, if the Prophet does not explain it, how can you guess about the Angel realm when you have never felt its presence?
How about Angel? You wouldn't know about them at all!
Unless the Prophet and the Qur'an explain it, you will know that angels are such and such
Imagine. When a physicist or biologist talks about God, can he be right? It's difficult!
He can speak logically in general that this Nature must have a creator. Thats a nature (fitrah),
if you say God is sucha and such, it's not allowed!
If you say that God must be Almighty and God Who Creates, it's everyone's nature,
if you go into the details that God has to do this, He can't be like this. Of course we can't take his words
Among those who went astray was Ibn Sina
Ibn Sina was influenced by Ariesto
