questions actually what do you got what
are um the potential benefits of man
space FL in the future benefits to whom
to humanity to humanity there there are
many of course they are the spin-offs
all right the technologies that come
about from the investments in space
technology but that's not the best
reason for doing it the best reason for
doing it is a little more philosophical
back in the 1960s with the Apollo era do
you know that the beginning of the
modern conservation movement is
traceable to the publication of the
first NASA photo of Earth really seen
with no political borders no colored in
states or countries it was just
spaceship
Earth our investment in space enabled us
for the first time to look back at Earth
and realize that it was something wor
protecting the benefits of the Space
Program operate on us in ways that sit
deep within who and what we are as a
species we have the power we have the
intellect to explore beyond the planet
that we're gravitationally bound to to
say why do it would be like moving into
a house and never being curious about
what your backyard look like about what
the neighborhood looked like about what
it looked like going into the center of
town because you know something there
are resources there there are other
people there places things to do is's
the richness of Life measured by how
much you end up exploring so to remove
from the human species the power of
exploration is to Doom us to to this
sheltered understanding of what our
place is in the universe and I'll tell
you something else our understanding of
the climate on Venus was our first
example of what a global runaway
greenhouse effect would do to a planet
that was Venus on Mars Mars once had
liquid water coursing all through its
surface today it's bone dry something
bad happened on Venus something bad
happened on Mars I want to understand
what happened there so that we don't end
up doing the same thing to Earth so we
learn more about ourselves by going to
