So the show is called Making Stuff and
it's a 4hour fourpart oneh hour episodes
times four um about material science
which is this completely unsung branch
of science that nobody's heard of um
everyone's heard of physics and biology
and chemistry but material science what
the hell so uh it turns out that that is
the intersection of biology physics
chemistry um having to do with
materials. Now, we all think of
materials as cloth and stuff, but it's
actually um there's some amazing amazing
work going on by studying nature, for
example, um looking at shark skin, which
is the creepiest, most unusual material.
Um it was the basis for that Michael
Phelps bathing suit that was banned by
the Olympics, for example, or studying
spider silk, which is 10 times as strong
as steel, but a fraction of the weight,
and carbon nano fibers. There's just
incredible work going on under the
public's very nose. Um, and that's what
this is an exploration of. Um, and even
in 4 hours, we're just scratching the
surface. Making stuff that's stronger
and lighter and cleaner and smarter,
self-healing, self-changing materials.
Crazy stuff.
