i'm not exactly sure there was no
audition process i'm not a scientist but
as i understand it that's what they were
looking for they were looking for
someone who would be the representative
of the viewer
to talk to these scientists and try to
translate what they're saying into
english
preferably in an entertaining way so
that was that's been my specialty my
whole life i used to write the blah blah
for dummies books you know again
explaining technical subjects to the
layman and my new york times column same
thing so
i believe the uh the executive producer
of the show and the executive producer
of nova had each seen some of the
segments that i'd done
for cbs news sunday morning and they
thought that's kind of the right thing
